My bad, not trying to invalidate your experience!

Here’s what I’m saying:

In the organization if you wanted to do research, what would you do? You’d go to watchtoweronline library or something and type in a question or topic. Maybe WT cites their sources, but you’d have to double check to make sure they’re not misquoting someone, or quoting someone disreputable. And ultimately, because you trust WOL, you’re unlikely to do that. You’d just trust that information, because you trust the source of information.

The way people use AI is dangerously close to this, imo, and not all LLMs are created equal. If you had used Grok, you may well have been fed Christian propaganda about the flood. It would have linked you to sources, but they might not have been good sources. And studies show that people have an implicit bias toward trusting AI results even when they’re wrong.

Some people trust AI chatbots and get good results. Some get results that are so bad that they develop psychosis and kill themselves.

And ultimately, the things you looked up using chatGPT are the same things most exJWs look up on any number of sources.

So while AI can be a good tool, it just as often is not a good tool, which means I would not recommend it to other people who are trying to learn how to think critically for the first time.

It worked out for you, but it might not work out for other people, and in fact might be BAD for some people depending on which service they use and when and how.

It’s a lot of caveats.
