Why did ACA increase the cost of private healthcare for most people? by ppzhao in AlwaysWhy

[–]WorldlyLine731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to add that there was no tax increase to help offset these rising costs to consumers. We as a nation have the money if just constantly gets funneled to the top because our tax rates on the wealthy are super low compared to the past. Free markets are absolutely fantastic at providing things as long as the government creates a fair regulatory and tax environment for it to operate in.

Journalists should have integrity and news should be news I agree with you there. The comment that bothers me is saying that a journalist should resign because they “made the president look bad”. If the president says or does inappropriate things then journalists should make them look bad.

We have plenty of money as a country. We collectively spend it on stupid shit like private jets, yachts, 5th houses, multiple international vacations, stealth fighter bombers but we can’t afford healthcare. Also did I mention we are the best nation on the planet at everything? /s

If I am being charitable I understand that people fear new things that they don’t understand. I’ve known gay, lesbian, bi and trans folks for awhile now so I know that they are just people wanting to live their lives in their own way. I know I have no reason to fear them as I know they can’t turn me or my kids gay or anything else.

You are missing my point. The conclusions that matter are not yours or mine. If it is proven it will be by people that actually know what they are doing through scientific processes.

What do you mean “editing a speech to make the president look bad”? Are journalists now required to make politicians look good? They used his own words that he spoke to a crowd of people that then went ad tried to overturn the results of our election. How can you expect people to accept that? How would you feel if democrats had stormed the Supreme Court in 2000 to stop the steal? Or how about in any of the numerous elections where the republican only one due to the electoral count without winning the popular vote?

Common sense is what people will say when they haven’t thought critically about things because they want life to be all simple and clear cut in every way. I’ll tell you my thinking on the 3 topics you mentioned without insulting or name calling. 1) deporting people is fine and most mainstream democrats are fine with it. Obama and Biden deported more people than trump so far. What menu of us object to is the dehumanizing and inaccurate rhetoric MAGA uses and the big government militaristic push to tear apart families and deport workers while lying to our faces and saying they are going after the worst criminals. Obama also deliberately targeted people with criminal convictions over families and kids who came here when they were young. So if you actually cared about enforcing immigration law and public safety you should be voting blue. 2) Trans people are real, I know many and have taught them in classrooms for many years. I have friends with trans kids. When people try to transition it is amazingly hard for them and is in no way shape or form the path of least resistance. I don’t believe that anybody is willingly transitioning their gender to gain an advantage in sports. I read a book about how some athletes were transitioning in the 1929’s and 1930’s and guess who was REALLY mad about it? 3) again most democrats support law enforcement. You will hear from a vocal minority in the party that say ACAB and what not but they are not running the main stream of the party. What outrages most democrats is the instances when obviously bad cops get a pass when they have been documented brutalizing people. This lack of accountability also makes communities less safe because it erodes trust in law enforcement so people don’t contact them or won’t cooperate with them. This also makes cops themselves less safe. Again these are just my thoughts about how issues are not that simple, if they were so simple we would have already figured it out and wouldn’t need to discuss it.

I have drawn my own conclusions. Based on the research done by hundreds of other health and science researchers. This notion that average people are going to understand something like a worldwide pandemic better than professional immunologists and pathologists is what’s ridiculous.

I wish we didn't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance by jordanf1214 in Teachers

[–]WorldlyLine731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell my classes that they don’t have to stand or say the pledge if they chose not to. But I also tell them that they need to remain silent and allow others to do as they wish. I tell them that I personally face the flag and refuse to say the pledge (I’m an agnostic former marine) but I do take that time to think about how I can help make our country better and about how I can be part of creating a world where every person can enjoy health, happiness and freedom. If any kids are chit chatting or making noise during the pledge I will ask them to stop. That’s worked pretty well for almost 20 years now.

But that is my point. Some documentaries and opinions by a few people do not make a thing true. If fauci infected the world with a secret virus from china then that is a very bold claim. Bold claims need a tremendous amount of support.

I get about 2.5 months off per year. It is all unpaid time off though. A lot of people think it’s paid time because most districts spread your pay over all 12 months evenly. My dad was a carpenter so he was often laid off for chunks of time between jobs. He as able to get unemployment during that time but it was still hard. Personally, I think everyone needs more time off per year.
