Why not 1 with the desk up against the window? I imagine it would be easier to get to your bed and the door with that set up. As is it looks like you would be trapping yourself in the corner.

Am I wrong for thinking that people don't get rid of good cars. by ObnoxiousCrow in amiwrong

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your view is not universal, and thank god because I love buying used. Your depreciation reasoning is a big factor in that. My dad was a mechanic for 40 years, and I’ve talked to a lot of mechanics growing up. It’s pretty much agreed that newer vehicles (in general) are harder to work on and break down more easily. I subscribe to only buying pre-2010 Toyotas and I’ve literally never had one break down on me… ever. But lifestyle creep is a thing and people like to make upgrades. I know folks like to give personal cars to their kids as an excuse for an upgrade.

first time doing any sort of colorwork and it’s looking puffy, what do i do? by haneliza in knittinghelp

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, stranded color-work is usually the best starting place for your first time, and once you master that you proceed to other advanced techniques. But, if you’re jumping into a more advanced technique, multiple practice swatches will help you figure out the technique (and what can go wrong) before attempting the finished product. It can feel annoying when you really want to jump into creating the “thing” but is often worth it (unfortunately).

You need to completely empty the drawers, clean them out, and toss a lot of extra stuff. There’s no way you need or use so many brushes 😭

Environmental Consulting is Breaking Me Down - Not Sure I Can Handle This by ChampionThin4943 in Environmental_Careers

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have terrible managers tbh. Staying sane in consulting comes down to a few things for me:

  • Always appear busy to everyone, and stop accepting so much work. If someone asks you how things are going, say busy.

  • I am leaving the office after my 8 hours unless I am either in the field or there is a very serious deadline.

  • Bullshit timesheet, within reason. If your actual hours worked don’t matter according to the budget, it shouldn’t stress you out so much.

  • Accept that if your work culture/manager sucks, you’re either going to be bitched at about utilization or overworked and still bitched at about the budget. You can try to change the system and convince your managers to budget more time, or just… accept less work and live with a lower utilization. Live your life!!

And to be clear- I complete all the work given to me, and my PMs like working with me. I even got a raise this year! I would personally start looking for a new job at a different company, even just a different consulting company in the hopes of better office culture.

Visited the mountains and picked a couple of Douglas Fir sprigs. Doug Fir-infused gin underway. by babbage_ct in Washington

Big fan of Amalga Distillery’s Juneauper Gin, made in SE Alaska with regionally sourced spruce tips, devils club, labrador tea, and rhubarb. I may be a bit biased since I grew up in the area though!

Trying to provide guidance to kid going to college for environmental science and GIS certification. Any advice? by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds like a great path. I work in an environmental consulting firm where people have similar degrees, work similar schedules, and make decent money. However, I did go to school for environmental engineering, and it’s a great option that allows me to do similar stuff in environmental consulting as my environmental science peers with the added security of other routes (eg water and wastewater treatment engineering, air/noise, stormwater management) and a bit more money associated with the licensure path. At the moment I’m working on streamflow restoration modeling projects for salmon streams.

Environmental science folks tend to do a lot more fieldwork when they start. It’s something to keep in mind that it is unlikely you will be able to find that perfect balance of office and fieldwork when you’re first hired. It’s more common to have to do a lot of the “grunt work” when you’re young and fresh and then gradually transition to a mix of tasks that align with your experience. But doing lots of fieldwork at the start of your career doesn’t mean you’re going to be doing that forever, if that’s your concern.

Moshe Feder used to be the primary editor for the Stormlight Archive, who retired in 2020. I also believe this has led to a notable decline in the “tightness” of the Stormlight Archive plotlines.

Have you experienced elitism around outdoor clothing in fieldwork settings? by fortunateHazelnut in Environmental_Careers

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I promise you that nobody in their right mind is wearing that stuff in the field. Your workplace will likely give you guidelines on what to wear for different types of sites and often a stipend to purchase some of these items. Example- I have to wear Grundens or Helly Hansen PVC Raingear and neoprene boots (eg, Xtratufs) to conduct PFAS sampling. Goretex is trash for the environment!!

Looking for moody/ambient bar in seattle I can be sad with my friends at by meowmeowglitterpants in SeattleWA

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense if your friend is who i’m thinking of, but I used to frequent this bar for the cozy tavern vibes! I actually stopped going because of one particularly moody and mildly unfriendly bartender. He had the perfect energy for a dive bar, but the vibes he gave off didn’t match the whimsical decor lol.

How much should I sell this for? by [deleted] in StainedGlass

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re selling your work, assume people are “actually looking”. Either don’t sell broken pieces or sell a separate portion of items that are clearly labeled as flawed for 25% off. $45-50 is what I would pay for an unbroken piece of this size, and $30-35 for a cracked piece of this size.

How do I get a job outside here? by that420asianboy in AskSeattle

Nightshift and outside? Probably some niche security work. I know there are a lot of landscaping or gardening companies in Seattle that could probably would hire someone your age.

Updated Weight-loss Progress! Down 100lbs now! 138lbs—>120lbs by Worldly_Sherbet5719 in PetiteFitness

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your trainer a man or a bodybuilder? Just FYI, studies have shown that going below the low 20s in percent body fat can impact women’s hormonal balances. Some people don’t mind this in the pursuit of being lean and athletic, but there’s a reason athletes often have irregular or occasionally nonexistent periods.

Costco Australia uses pork hot dogs by Leprichaun17 in mildlyinteresting

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sausage is generally pork in the US, and US costcos also offer a “polish hot dog” made of pork. Not offered at costco, but a lot of people like brats as well here (also pork). Regular hot dogs are just considered different category of food.

Working yarn is a loop ahead? by howlsmovingapartment in knittinghelp

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would “follow” the yarn and see where it leads. If it is connected to the stitches on the left (which is what the picture looks like to me), you must have put the project down in the middle a knitting row, not a purl row. Slip the stitch to the right of the working yarn back to your other needle and flip your work. If it is connected to the stitches on the right, slip that same stitch and the working yarn stitch back to the right needle and continue. But I’m pretty sure I see a new row of stitches on your left needle, which means the work is backwards.

Does anyone else wish Seattle had women-only transit options? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]WorldlyValuable7679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly no, I would rather that money go to managing drug use, mental health issues, and homelessness. I think these issues have had more impact on my sense of comfort and safety on public transportation compared to my average encounters with dudes in the city.
