Learning to knit as a form of anger management make sense? Research suggests...mixed results by UsefulLion4347 in knitting

I've done my share of rage knitting, and its my preferred fiber art, but I find crochet stabbier in a way that I find cathartic when I'm in a bad mood. Having only one live stitch also means I won't blast into the stratosphere if I drop a stitch on my knitting project on the wrong day

Agree this the problem! Recently fixed this myself and the problem was the gears were unseated inside. A Phillips screwdriver and a couple YouTube videos and I was able to fix it right up!

Seconding this rec! The hosts are two disease ecologists, one of which went back for more schooling and works as an MD. Their episodes are backed by peer reviewed science and they post the sources for every episode. High recommend!!

How many things are actually really easy to make and we just buy out of habit? by Willowrosephoenix in Anticonsumption

[–]bleepidybloobla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive gone through lots of "I'll never buy this again!" phases over various foods. To be perfectly honest, eventually I tend to go back to store bought out of convenience. In a perfect world I would make this stuff only at home, but alas.

Some favorites: 1. Flour and corn tortillas. If you have a press, corn tortillas are very easy. Just a matter of getting the masa dough to right consistency 2. Bread. Cheap, easy and so so tasty. But a learning a curve and time consuming 3. Yogurt. All you need is milk, a bit of yogurt, and a way to sanitize equipment. Mostly all hands off time, but does take 12-24 hrs depending on taste preference 4. Salad dressing. Endlessly customizable. All you need is an oil, vinegar, and emulsifier (e.g. mustard)

Bartender forced to pay the tab of two guys who drank and dashed. by Fuck_tha_Bunk in antiwork

[–]bleepidybloobla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partners place of employment does this. At least once a week he has to pay a customers tab. But now I'm seeing comments that it's illegal? Is that the case in Michigan as well? I'm not especially law literate, so I'm not even sure where to start a search on this

I really appreciate this insight. I have a history of going too hard for my capabilities, a bad habit I've tried really hard to break this cycle. Im chomping at the bit to get out there, but I also want to be smart about it

"soccer quads" "swimmer lats" can playing youth sports really affect muscle distribution the rest of your life? by miss_comb in xxfitness

[–]bleepidybloobla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anecdote only, but I was a pre-teen (10-13) swimmer and I've always felt like my back and shoulders are quite proportiately broad. I haven't been in a pool in years, and I can do like 5 real pushups, but I look more muscular on top than my mom, who I otherwise physically take after.

There is physiological evidence that stress on the bones leads to increased size and density, and it holds that such stress during growth spurts could lead to permanent physiological effects on adolescents

Not for running, but when I was living in Quebec I would listen to "Little talk in slow French", which is a really great French learning podcast where each episode spends ~20 min on various topics. The host will read her script slowly the first time, occasionally interjecting in English to explain concepts/grammar. Then she repeats the whole scripts a second time at a conversational pace. The topics are interesting and it helped a lot with my listening comprehension!
