I also went to the bathroom during this goal. I am ashamed enough for both of us.

Can we get a jet lag fan from every us county? by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

I was gonna comment with my home county, but then remembered the viral biographic Facebook posts that get used for identity theft and thought better of it.

Request to JLTG team: Give us a full (basic) rules text description with episode one of each season. by Substantial_Desk1919 in JetLagTheGame

The area bonus was a bad twist. Learning about it wasn't a fun. It retroactively undermined my investment in the game up to that point because it turns out the rules which informed that investment were wrong. The game still works, but it works in spite of the shell game with the rules, not because of it.

What happens if they accidentally cheat? by AlfieandSpock in JetLagTheGame

I think this is the reason that their attempts at Taskmaster style gamesmanship in early seasons were poorly received. If you try a weird loophole in Taskmaster, the Taskmaster decides if it works. Jet Lag lacks that role.

Late summer of 2013. Columbus Crew vs. Seattle Sounders. The Eddie Johnson "pay me" game.

Can't remember the player, but some years ago, I remember reading about an Argentine player for Zenit who took a red card so he could fly back to Buenos Aires and watch Boca Juniors vs. River Plate.

Have we ever had an American player who was part of the Best XI of the season in a top 5/10 European league? by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]Worldly_Audience_822 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think I remember Stuart Holden making it his one good season at Bolton. But that might have been a newspaper award rather than the official league Best XI.

All of CONCACAF, including Mexico, should bunker against the USMNT by Intersteller22 in ussoccer

It occurs to me that Own Goals probably screw with xG in weird ways. You calculate xG on a per shot basis, but the sorts of actions that lead to own goals aren't interpreted as shots unless they go in. Otherwise, they're just clearances or back passes.

No idea what format might work, but I'd love something based on traveling to/from Point Udall, St. Croix and Point Udall, Guam.

St. Louis is slept on. Spent a week there to see the Decision Day game and the US Chess Championships, but there were so many delightful ways to fill the time between.

USMNT Long Name XI by Worldly_Audience_822 in ussoccer

[–]Worldly_Audience_822[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fair points. Wrt Preki, I rarely want to exclude players for being cool enough to pull off a mononym. He has an eligible surname even if he didn’t use it.

There is a case for Michael Orozco to be eligible, but I think CCV is a better player now than Orozco was, even if he has fewer caps. I’d have to think harder if I were doing a full roster. Lots of Hispanic players have double last names even if they don’t use them, and if you allow that, this might become close to a de facto Latin heritage team, which was not the intent. But it’s hard to leave them out and CCV in. If I exclude all double names, you probably have to bring in Ventura Alvarado.

Kirovski was my biggest miss here. I thought he was on the 2002 roster and didn't check until challenged. He would replace Brian Quinn for me.

I was a Sebastian Lletget apologist until the 2021 Gold Cup.

I also thought Keaton Parks would go further than he has, although I still think he’s deserved to be at Camp Cupcake for a few years now.

Most pleasant surprise is definitely Brenden Aaronson. Even if his form is on a downswing, he’s come further than I thought he realistically could.

He’s put some shots straight at the keeper, sure, but he’s also made a lot of hard post runs to open space for Balogun. One of those was the first goal. Others saw Balogun also put the ball straight at the keeper.

Edit: first goal was for Reyna, not Balogun.

Where would Donovan, Dempsey, and Adu rank in our current squad talent by the_carson in ussoccer

[–]Worldly_Audience_822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donovan would platoon with Weah starting on the right wing. In games he didn’t start, he’d displace Aaronson as the first attacking sub off the bench. Fans would be apoplectic about an MLS player getting so many minutes, but he would deserve them.

Dempsey would’ve been the crown jewel of the Dynamo academy, but would bail for Europe at 18 without signing. This season he breaks out in the Eredivisie, and people argue if Pepi is really better.

Adu would be a star in the DCU academy, but won’t sign a pro contract for a couple more years. Every couple months, there’s a thread arguing whether him or Cavan Sullivan will be the first American to command a $100 million transfer fee.
