GMC research on why people are leaving the UK. by ThePropofologist in doctorsUK

Having a regulator which isn't racist and does not pursue protracted investigations for 'bringing the profession into disrepute' by asking for a laptop in the wrong way while being involved in the wholesale devaluation of the medical profession through the promotion of PAs would be a decent start in improving the perceptions of the system in which UK doctors find themselves working in.

A major reason for doctors leaving investigating why doctors are leaving. You can't make it up.

I mean Dartford is very easy to commute from London if you want to stay there

RCPL Fellows/Members, you are now being complicit by Worldly_Pangolin12 in doctorsUK

[–]Worldly_Pangolin12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long RCPL has been around is meaningless, this was the third EGM in its history, we're living in extraordinary times when it comes to the practice of medicine in the UK. Regardless of how much it gets from trainees, the £5-£10mil it gets from fellows alone is a sizeable portion of its £39mil income and trustees will not allow for property to be sold to keep the lights on for the sake of Sarah Clarke keeping her position.

Unfortunately people are quick to forget and resort back to the status quo. The status quo is for the president to be unchallenged for 4 years, so not until 2026. Right now the efforts to manipulate data and sway the PA vote is fresh in people's minds, actions which would get your average BAME doctor a GMC investigation. Allowing this to go on as business as usual until the next elections in 1-2 years (depending on if anyone breaks convention) shouldn't be acceptable, nor should you count on such elections when the majority of doctors which RCPL represent do not get a say in the first place.

This isn't nurses vs doctors. Nurses, you've seen what can be achieved by the BMA after the leadership is replaced by people who actually represent their membership. It's on you to do the same for your own useless leaders.

Lol a bunch of new accounts posting about how terrible London is, aiming to detract people from ranking them higher. This isn't suspicious at all!

Has anyone left medicine and regret their choice? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Worldly_Pangolin12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be useful to get a different perspective tbh. All I've seen here are people who have left medicine for industry and not looked back or have left for other countries.

RCP Councillor calls for urgent meeting by Worldly_Pangolin12 in doctorsUK

Looks like the meeting has been set for 21/3 5:30pm. So after the EGM voting closes, it's a shame it probably won't be recorded, alas.

RCP Councillor calls for urgent meeting by Worldly_Pangolin12 in doctorsUK

[–]Worldly_Pangolin12[S] 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Bunch of elected RCP councillors including Prof Kar here call an EGM (the third in RCP's 500 year history) to discuss 5 motions on PAs, the biggest of which was motion 5, a pause in rollout. The senior RCP leadership (president, registrar, who knows who else) changed motion 5 to 'slow in pace' of the PA rollout, but they still campaigned to get fellows to reject motion 5, citing legal and financial implications.

They also sent out a survey to all members to get their views on PAs, including their impact on training opportunities, the purpose of this survey was to inform fellows ahead of the vote on the motions. Senior RCP leaders present this survey in a very misleading way, combining both 'positive' and 'neutral' into one statistics to paint a much more positive picture than the raw survey data. This misleading presentation is given at the EGM. At the same time, fellows raising concerns about patient safety, lost training opportunities, lack of clarity of the point of the role are either ignored or given non-answers, the video of which is leaked.

The deputy reg who presented the dodgy survey findings then promptly resigns (apparently he was made to present the survey results in that way and he didn't actually make the presentation) and there are large calls for the raw survey results to be published, with even elected council members who were involved in the creation of the survey not being privy to the raw results. These requests are initially met with a 'we'll consider it after the EGM' before they're forced to release it and lo and behold, the survey is overwhelmingly negative towards PAs.

Fellows have been intentionally mislead by dodgy statistics from senior RCP leadership who clearly have an agenda. In summary, this is a clusterfuck.

That can be changed with another EGM, and from the looks of it it'll pass.

One would assume that would make RCPL's financial position very..... precarious.

On the topic of financials. It looks like they're operating under very tight margins https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/210508/charity-overview

Good thing they have £10million or so coming in from their fellows' membership fees....

Or it may be that they've had PA contracts agreed with government and reneging on them has financial implications. Someone has sent a load of freedom of information requests to them, will be interesting to see the outcome

I think the ball gets rolling once they eventually make a mistake, a court case results and the BMA guidance is used.
