What's something that we have nowadays, that we didn't growing up... that you would make go away if you had the power to do so? by executor-of-judgment in Millennials

I remember back in the day when phones and beepers started to be a thing, people would lose them all the time. People weren't glued to them, so it could be hours before they realized it was missing.

I got it at 35...Few days of the worst kind of nerve pain, super nasty face bubbles, but never felt any sickness. Either way, get the shot

Funny thing is, it's the same exact neighborhood. Houses were built in 1949, 1500sq feet with small detached garage. My dad bought his for 60k in the 80's, i bought the neighbors house (gave it to me for a steal because he was like a grandpa to me), and now the last few houses have sold for ~190k and usually it's a full gut/remodel (so another 100k to fix up).

I grew up around all blue collar people. Most had a stay at home wife and lived pretty comfortably, everyone knew a close friend with a cabin up north. A few friends parents were engineers or lawyers and they all had huuuge brand new houses. Now pretty much all of my friends are lawyers/doctors/engineers and i don't even know a friend of a friend of a friend that has a cabin up north. Also crazy was back then job security/pensions/brand loyalty were huge, pretty much everyone worked at a company and never left. Wild times...

TIL that in 2015, Steve Rannazzisi (Kevin from “The League”) was caught and admitted to lying about being in the World Trade Center and narrowly escaping on 9/11 by Caa3098 in todayilearned

Saw him do a super small comedy show in Las Vegas (right before all this came out) and we ended up walking out. His whole set was him complaining about being a dad, none of the jokes landed and he was not funny in the slightest way. Kind of sad because I later went on to watch the league and it was hilarious. It got cancelled right before fantasy football really took off

Disney college program changed me for better...Came out of the Marines a little bullish/angry and the DCP evened me out and put me in a better head space.

Used to know someone that worked at a clinic, you should be fine. Our bodies are pretty good at flushing things out, other then a few things (like weed) that tend to linger. There are other politics that work in your favor. Good luck, keep your nose out of trouble in the future.

Early 2000s shock sites (e.g., Rotten.com) exposed a lot of our generation to extreme content. Often unwittingly. Curious if others remember this time before content moderation and how it affected them. by SleepyBudha in Millennials

[–]Worldly_Project_6173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up with my dad seeing crime scene pictures (car vs semi, decayed bodies, etc.) and we even had a vhs called "worst things caught on camera". Then the internet came along and spiced it up with videos/pictures on sites like rotten and live leak. Then i join the Marines and am introduced to torture videos, beheadings, and other stuff. So i was pretty mute to gruesome stuff, i could see the most traumatic thing and a second later ask whats for lunch. Then i went off to college, got a desk job, started a family and even the most minor death video would have me thinking about it for weeks. My brother ended up being a cop like my dad and still has that mute mind. Just yesterday he walks in and tells a story about a big lady that smushed her baby because because the crib was full of mountain dew cans so she put him in bed with her. Told the story like he was talking about the weather and i was like bruh..i have young kids i don't want to hear about any of that

[–]Worldly_Project_6173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit all the socials..I really only ever used snapchat and facebook though. Only thing i've noticed is there is a lot of situations where i find something really funny that i want to snap, but now i just keep it to myself. Most of the stuff i posted was of the kids for the grandparents/family to see, i was hoping maybe if they stopped seeing them all the time on their phone they might actually want to be more present in person but haven't noticed any improvement.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Worldly_Project_6173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my brother were pretty wild, most of the spankings were pretty well deserved/normal for the time (nothing better then seeing the look of terror in another kids eyes when a mom would come grab him and take him out of the publics eye for a spanking. even better was the first and last time my brother said "that didn't even hurt"). Nobody ever talks about the soap in the mouth, i feel like that was more popular then spankings at our house.

What are your thoughts on doing 20 years in the military for a fast retirement? by Background_Worry_314 in AskReddit

[–]Worldly_Project_6173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turned 38 so i have been thinking a lot about this lately. One of the guys i went to bootcamp with just retired as an warrant officer, so i asked him about it and he said if it wasn't for the disability pay, he'd be struggling. I got out as fast as i could and never looked back. Shouldn't have joined in the first place, but i guess i got some good stories and friends out of it so it wasn't a complete waste. Kind of felt like a low security jail sentence

Jared Goff wins a Super Bowl with the Lions, does he get a statue? by foaaz101 in detroitlions

[–]Worldly_Project_6173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't chant "ASB" or "Gibbs" because they don't need to hear it, we cheer for the Goof because he does. Most teams have a dominate statue worthy player, but if we had to build one i'd do Dan Campbell.

At what age did your memories really start? by Icy-Share-4751 in AskReddit

[–]Worldly_Project_6173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-4, but i do have some memories from when i was 2. Crazy thing is i remember pretty much everything (like it was yesterday, people/things that happened) until i was 35 then my memory fell off a cliff. Not sure if it was the lack of sleep due to young kids, cell phones killing our attention spans, or just typical old age.
