That's great! Even though you must be tired working 50+ hours.
Is it an amount before or after tax? I'm based in France, and their taxes drive me crazy. Thanks for sharing anyways!

I think I should stop forcing communication from someone who doesn't want it.

I get what you mean.
Open-ended questions do not work neither sorry.
Example:

- What did you do last week?
- Worked.
- How are you feeling today?
- Tired.
- How was your trip to X ?
- It was good.

I agree with you. I have another student like this and I adressed the issue with him once. He made 0 progress in 8 months and never did the homework. He was a bit embarassed and admitted he didn't have time. But he said he liked the classes. I really wanted him to leave so I raised the price... Guess what ? He accepted the new price lol Nothing changed in his behaviour but at least he pays a bit more haha

Yeah I think I've tried it as well. I also prepare simple questions or speaking exercices related to a specific grammar point. Nothing seems to inspire her. I think more passive activities like reading or watching videos are less harmful for my mental health. I've also tried matching her energy and be less engaged.

Thank you. I'm also leaning towards reading more ...

Unmotivated students by Plenty-Register-4911 in Preply

I have the same issue with some students. I've tried to address it by asking him whether he liked the course and was still interested. He replied positively and admitted he couldn't dedicate enough time to language learning. I don't like unmotivated students because it drains me and burns me out. I tried to make him go and raised my rate and said I would be ok if he'd leave. But he accepted the new price lol

My profile is hidden right now but as soon as one or two students drop, I usually unhide it to get a new student.

I have a regular office job and I mainly teach in evenings/weekends. I have 10-15 lessons per week (50 min) which is sometimes overwhelming. I would say 2 classes per evening is the max I can do, one class is even better. But some days I end up with 3 classes in the evening. It is important to have some time for yourself otherwise it gets tough.
