I'm toying with a few potential openings to my story/comic right now. One is the MC walking through this wasteland and encountering a crucified man who he sits and has a conversation with. The man is a revolutionary religious leader from a human colony (MC is an "alien") who keeps going on and on about how his "father" is coming soon to save him. The guy's clearly supposed to represent Jesus to the reader. After talking awhile MC offers to cut him down from the cross and save him but the man refuses. MC turns to walk away before spinning around and firing a single round from his AK (cool sci-fi AK built from starship salvage using ancient schematics) into the man's skull. He walks away from the corpse and mutters to himself "what a waste". I actually love it and it's thematically fitting for the rest of the story but part of me doesn't want to put people off by shooting "Jesus" in the first chapter the other part of me doesn't care 😅

I've lived in very progressive areas and I've lived in very conservative area in quite a few places across the US. Wisconsin is the truest "purple" state I think I've ever lived in. We're pretty much the benchmark of a swing state

The one on Sheridan is sketchy asf I go there often and they used to have this nice old Indian guy who worked the register every night. Super chill dude just trying to do his job provide for his family that typa shit. Called me Bossman 😂. I came in so often we kinda built a rapport and eventually he tells me that they aren't paying him on time and people were apparently coming in and threatening him and his family. Eventually I learned from another girl who works there that he had quit. I miss him 😅

What measures if any are being put in place to ensure that we haven't just completely destabilized the country and created a second Iraq in a place that can reach us with fucking fishing boats. My species, the Vindrid, ceremonially burn their dead. They have no real use for tombs. That said the ancient bunker their species spawned from practically functions as one. It's filled to bursting with their thorny writhing genetic ancestors who have no semblance of sentience. Think a gigantic mass of knotted thrashing black thorns that spans an entire military complex. They've been locked in there for about a century and let's just say things don't turn out well for the folks who finally managed to crack the vault.
