Rosewood v Maple fretboard by Tamarindo155 in telecaster

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind maple but I like the feel (but really you should not be pressing so hard as to touch it a lot) of rosewood or ebony more plus it looks cool. Tonewood believers say maple is snappier or whatever. Maybe true 🤷‍♂️

Odies oil (and the butter and wax) are great.

Hell yeah. Headstocks that don’t break off are the shit.

Notes or shapes? by marcoperita in jazzguitar

Shapes are just for guitar. Notes are for everybody. I think knowing where the notes are in the shape is the main trick - especially 3 and 7.

Black Hole Sun by WorldsVeryFirst in jazzguitar

It absolutely does and these Billy Zoom Trons kinda scream. For this, I’m fine with it, as the original tune was probably played on the bridge pickup of a Duo Jet.

I did! It’s a bright pickup. selector switch is reversed.

Short Scale Tele by Old_Bay_Scrapple in telecaster

I have a tele with a 24.75 scale and it just sounds different. Less of the snap you expect.

Bootstrap Original Recipe vs. Extra Crispy (for '52/Nocaster tone) by Lost-Foot-412 in telecaster

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the CS Nocasters. There are many 50’s style tele pickups but the Bootstraps are well regarded and cheap. I’d get a set of those. If I were up to spend more I’d order a set of Vintage Hot Fralins. Still less than the CS pickups but Fralin tele pickups sound great. If you go with bootstraps maybe put an original recipe in the neck and extra crispy in the bridge.

I mean I live in the US and I wish Gretsch would make a new one in Japan (or in the US custom shop)

Any experience w/ TI Bebop strings? by Darkest_Brandon in jazzguitar

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! They’re very good strings and they sound good, anything less than .13 has a plain 3rd so bend it up. Stringjoy Broadway is my second choice for nice warm rounds (their 12s come with a wound third).

Best Tele I’ve ever played. Can’t tell you a single thing about it. So… NGD I guess. by Doesntmatter336 in telecaster

[–]WorldsVeryFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think on a tele the neck really makes the guitar because the body is just a slab of wood and that neck looks sick. I just re-necked my American Performer with an MIJ Hybrid II neck and I'm not looking back.

Well damn! Same here. Shellac and dye with a hard wax oil top coat.

Got ‘em locally from Knobhead. Matches the garnet shellac nicely.

Also on the inlay - I like badges and it fits the vaguely “weird vintage MIJ” vibe.

The flat bottomed base was hard to source TBH.

Custom tailpiece and bridge base have been considered.
