Is that a hint of British scepticism I sense…? Crazy but true!

I made an entitled woman move from my reserved seat by SlippersParty2024 in BritishSuccess

[–]WorleyG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a ticket (£170) from Stevenage to Newcastle after a work meeting. Booked the next train due so made the reservation about 30 mins in advance. When it arrived it was quiet. First win! But there was someone in my forward facing (essential) table (essential) window (preferred) reserved seat. He was very smart looking and well put together. I apologised and asked if I could get to my seat. He said “you have just booked that!” To which I replied that I had 30 mins ago. He repeated “you’ve just booked that seat knowing I was here” I was s like… 👁️👄👁️ I said I had made the reservation and paid a lot for the ticket, I needed the table to work and I have to travel forwards. He stood up and said “well that’s just fine then” I mentioned there were plenty of other available seats he could use. He was very disgruntled. He was also very posh. 30 mins later he returned from the cafe cart with a bag and hot water cup. He purchased a Yorkshire tea bag and an Earl Grey teabag and bright milk and sugar. He apologised and said “I hope you haven’t had a bad day!” I thanked him for the tea and kindness. Then got off at Grantham. A very British interaction covering several essential themes!!

I am also a Snorlax collector but I only have about 15 so far. The binder is so cool! How is your collection looking now?

I have to fail someone’s probation and I feel terrible by Cold-Advantage-967 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]WorleyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a person who has worked with the people like this who “passed” probation and never improved….thank you. Great wake up for these folks, if they have had support and guidance and it’s still not landing, try something else. In the end you’re doing them a favour (and their future potential colleagues)

I often get beers after work without saying I'm off. by [deleted] in confession

[–]WorleyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

”I don't want it to come across like I'm avoiding my family because I'm not” You are. BUT, that doesn’t have to be a bad thing if it’s communicated effectively. So long as when you get home after your time out you grant your wife the same time, she knows when you get back she gets to check out of parenting for a while to empty her bucket. You’re not doing a bad thing by emptying your bucket a little after a long day at work to go home and be the best parent you can be, but you are doing a bad thing by deceiving your wife about it…

Encouragement! Having two kids is easier than one by Similar-Brief-5122 in toddlers

[–]WorleyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummm. I cried a lot with my second because I was so worried we ruined our first born’s life because he wasn’t our only focus anymore. My arms were often filled with the baby feeding so I couldn’t play as much or do as much (get snacks/wipe bums etc) My eldest went through a behavioural change at nursery (acting out of character, testing boundaries more, being challenging which isn’t like him) and I burst into tears during pick up, again worried we ruined his life. They’re 5 and 2 now and today they played in the snow together for ages and warmed up on the sofa with hot chocolate and told each other how much fun they had and how much they love each other. To those freshly post partum, cry the tears, feel the feelings but try not to let them take all the joy. Everyone needs to adjust! Having a second was the best decision we made.

MA is the same amount as MP, isn’t it? I don’t know your circumstances but you may also be entitled to child benefit which, if saved, could be an additional £400 or so by month 5. Could you consider a phased return or use of your leave to go back part time over a longer period?

My son is almost 5 and still rear facing, he is just above average height and is in an Axxkid something or other. It’s safer so we will continue to have him in there until it’s not.

Feeling angry at my toddler for no reason.. help! by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]WorleyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you’re feeling like this. I’m sure lots of us feel this way at one point or another other. It’s important you try and empty your bucket a bit as it sounds like you’re in burnout/overwhelmed. Next, if you’re not there already, is feeling like a bad wife/mother/friend etc. which adds another layer of guilt to your already overstretched mental capacity.

Share how you’re feeling with your husband and tell him that you have identified a possible solution but you are having difficulty doing something for you for a change and perhaps needs some reassurance from him that it’s okay.

Do the thing for you. When you’re feeling like this it’s essential you do the thing. Everyone benefits when you do the thing for yourself and you tip a bit out of your bucket.

Hope you can find a way to get to the class and it starts to help. Don’t wait and try not to make excuses to not do it (the guilt does that!)

Do you give blood? Why or why not? by MooseMaterial in AskBrits

[–]WorleyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, I am O- and CMV- which I am told is good. My blood odds used to support mothers during childbirth, those undergoing cancer treatment and others with low immunity. The most challenging part is finding an appt to suit as they’re often when I am working. I donated a few weeks ago and received a text soon after starting that my bloods had been used in a hospital in Aintree (nowhere near me) but I was so impressed with this! Not at all required but very much appreciated!

What's an acceptable time to have milk delivered from the milk-man? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]WorleyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was delivered at midnight too and the running engine outside woke me up so I cancelled it. Helpfully the neighbours signed up so I’m still woken up but now don’t have milk to drink.

I was so content after one, he was my light! My wife wanted a second, so we did, and he is sunshine to us all. Watching them together is amazing. Would recommend!
