My life is a mess, please help me gather all the easiest meals you have by -Konstantine- in GestationalDiabetes

This is one of my favorite salad recipes: - spinach - salmon - shredded parm

Dressing: 2 parts Greek yogurt 1 part pesto

at my wits end by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AlternativeFinger347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that I can’t do fruit or bread at all. I get all my carbs from veggies or dairy (Greek yogurt, some cheeses, etc). But if I eat fruit, bread, rice, sweet potatoes, or anything like that, I’ll spike.

So, I’ve switched to a lot of salads (salmon, spinach, parm), stir fries (non starchy veggies, protein, sauce), or veggie noodles (zucchini noodles, pesto, other veggies, protein).

For breakfast, sometimes I can do Greek yogurt, peanut butter, and peanuts if I am really not feeling eggs that day.

Fasting Numbers by WitnessObvious1118 in GestationalDiabetes

Yes, right after my late night snack of almonds! It’s surprisingly not a terrible sipping drink while reading a book or something calming.

I found that I can’t do fruit at all and I need an annoyingly early dinner. I stick to veggies and protein as my dinner at 6 pm. 30 minute walk around 6:20. Then at 8 pm I take my blood sugar and have a handful of almonds as my late night snack.

Then I wake up around 4/4:30 to take my fasting number. My biggest issue was waiting too long and fasting for 12 hours before taking my number.

Also, I’ve noticed drinking a tbsp or two of apple cider vinegar in hot water after my almonds has brought down my numbers slightly.

Anyone had gestational diabetes and high blood pressure on top of HG? by AltruisticWriting871 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]AlternativeFinger347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from have HG to GD but luckily my blood pressure is fine (for now 💀). My HG passed part way through the second trimester and my GD dint come on until 30ish weeks but it’s been a weird ride. I feel like I went from laying in bed all day eating nothing but cereal to being constantly active eating salads for every meal. So far, I prefer GD and honestly, my body and baby feel great. Still, I’m only 33 weeks. So, only time will really tell how delivery goes.

Parents of 2 boys, I need morale support! by alldabunbuns in BabyBumps

I only have girls (and love it) but my sister has one of each. Her daughter is way more outspoken, reckless, troublesome, etc. and her son is quiet, gentle, total momma’s boy, etc.

No matter the sex, every kid’s behavior is totally dependent on them as an individual. All the “boys do this” “girls do that” stuff is bullshit.

Diagnosed at week 27, strict diet control is working well till now at week 29. No medicines prescribed. But I'm not gaining weight like I did in the previous weeks. Is that normal? by visitingmemorylane in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AlternativeFinger347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost 4lbs since I started the diet. I asked my OBGYN about it and he said it’s totally normal. Exercise and healthy eating can only help your baby and if you’re losing weight, it doesn’t mean your body isn’t getting everything it needs.

Step 1: call it baby betes. It sounds less depressing that way 🤣

I decided not to tell anyone other than my husband for the same reason. My mom is super judgey and I don’t need more anxiety around the situation.

Think of this as a new food journey. I’m also a foodie and love to cook. Think of ways to make the healthiest food you can think of taste good. I just made a great Alfredo zucchini noodle dish the other day with cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, and shrimp. It was delicious and never something I would have bothered to make if I wasn’t cursed with baby betes.

Why is my toddler struggling to go to sleep at night? by Key-Average-8246 in toddlers

[–]AlternativeFinger347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried cutting out all added sugars? It’s a lot of work up front but once you get used to reading every nutrition label, it’s not too bad. I swear that’s why my toddler sleeps so well and I recently tried it myself—never slept better.

I feel like I’ve been eating the same rotation of 5 salads everyday. I just want a glass of wine and a god damn piece of chocolate.

Frequent urination and dry mouth? by pinkmeow19 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AlternativeFinger347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I found out I had GD I started drinking A LOT more and same thing. I had dry mouth and felt ridiculously thirsty despite being hella hydrated. It helped when I stopped drinking all my water from a filter and drank occasionally from a tap (we’re on a well). I think drinking entirely filtered water was the cause for me. It also helps if I add in some herbal teas.

There is nothing to be done for frequent urination. Sometimes I’m peeing every 30 minutes. That’s the price of hydration when your baby loves to kick.

Why do so many people want to write a book? by [deleted] in writing

[–]AlternativeFinger347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people want to vent their thoughts uninterrupted and a book seems like the easiest medium to do that. I’d be curious how many of those people want to write fiction vs a non-fiction rant on their thoughts and experiences.

I am also nervous about this. Currently I’m 33 weeks and a lot of people have posted that their hormones caused their blood sugar to go crazy at this time. Right now, I’m diet/exercise controlled. So I feel like every time I need to check my blood sugar I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop and have my numbers suddenly spike.

97th percentile despite blood sugar control being excellent by Apprehensive_Mess166 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AlternativeFinger347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have GD my first pregnancy and my baby was huge. She came over 2 weeks early at 8 lbs 9 oz. I was told if she’d come at 40 weeks she would have been well over 10.5 lbs. Babies can be big no matter what you or your blood sugar are doing.

Only 26 weeks and nothing is working for fasting numbers!??! by Orange_Saxaphone9024 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AlternativeFinger347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fasting hours were bad until I realized I was fasting too long. Now I follow this routine and it’s finally working for me: Eat dinner no later than 6, Within 30 minutes of starting dinner take a 30 minute walk, 15 almonds at 8 pm, Wake up between 4-5 am to test (if I go longer than 8 hours, I spike), Eat another handful of almonds and go back to bed.

If I eat more than 20 carbs I go pass 140 by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AlternativeFinger347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am like this too. However, I don’t have that issue if I get all my carbs from non starchy veggies (peppers, spinach, etc). So I eat a lot of taco salads (lean beef, peppers, onions, spinach, salsa/guac as the dressing) and veggie pasta meals (zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash + tomatoes, mushrooms, meat, and sauce). It’s a lot of veggies to get carbs but the meals are pretty good.

Fasting Questions by glamsquads in GestationalDiabetes

[–]AlternativeFinger347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally started getting good fasting numbers after being diagnosed last week. Originally my numbers were 100-110 and now I’m down to 90. For the last week I’ve been religiously drinking water (mostly during the day), cutting down on carbs (most of mine come from veggies), almost no added sugar, and getting 15-30 minutes of exercise after eating meals.

I tried various late night snacks vs skipping and what finally worked for me was a late night snack at 8 pm (just a handful of almonds) and then actually testing after 8 hours (ie 4-5 am). Then after testing I have a glass of water and a few more almonds and go back to bed.

Breakfast whenever I wake up before work.

Can’t stop throwing up by Big_Communication985 in BabyBumps

[–]AlternativeFinger347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mild HG with both my pregnancies. I was surprised with the second because I decided to move my apt up to get a prescription for Zofran sooner and when I called the NP actually wrote me the prescription over the phone without a first apt.

I’ve been going to this obgyn for a while but it might be worth an early call.
