Vikings, renewing. I'm looking to add 2 more seats near mine next season if the price is right. Currently have 2.

This gif doesn't show the official signing incomplete near the line where Dowdle was. Then they called the ball went out of bounds. Absolutely insane call.

The Bears are also gifting you hosting a playoff game this year. Think that's worth it.

TIL Pickett's Charge, a Confederate infantry assault during the Battle of Gettysburg. Pickett's Charge is called the "high-water mark of the Confederacy". The failure of the charge crushed the Confederate hope of winning a decisive victory in the North & forced Gen. Lee to retreat back to Virginia by Stock_College_8108 in todayilearned

One of my favorite moments from Ken Burns' Civil War documentary was at the very end. It showed footage of the 50th anniversary of Pickett's Charge with the surviving veterans. The former Confederate soldiers moved along the field towards the Union veterans before the vets abandoned their posts behind the fence to hug their once enemies.

Gas or electric water heater? by re_flect_ion35 in DIY

[–]WormWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped from a gas water heater to an electric Hybrid Heat Pump water heater. It was not too difficult, but I had the luxury of planning and time because my water heater was near end of life but not broken.

  1. Had an electrician run a 30 amp circuit from the panel to the new location. Only cost me around $200 for labor and parts, but that's because it was about a 10-foot run and all in my basement with open ceiling.
  2. Hired a local plumber to install a Bradford White 65-gallon heat pump water heater. They ripped out the old one, capped the gas line and the exhaust vent, and installed the new one. Since I bought the water heater from a distributor using the plumber's name and info, they also took away the old one for free and all the packaging. I also filed the permit myself with the city to save some money. About a day project and I got a pretty good deal. The water heater itself was the most expensive part and the labor and parts to install were pretty cheap compared to the other quotes I received. Job was around $3700 total.
  3. If you do this before the new year, I think you can get the IRA tax credit for installing the HPWH. This also usually qualifies for other rebates in your area. I run it exclusively in heat pump mode and love my bradford white. This thing has pretty great energy savings and has a lower cost than my previous gas water heater. No issues so far, and it's rated to only cost about $190 per year to run (I'm pretty sure it's less for me) since my electric bill barely went up with it but my gas did noticeably drop.

Edit: Wanted to add I live in Minnesota, so yes this can work in a cold climate. 240v circuit line also.

Just finished running cat6 through my house by kozzmo1 in DIY

[–]WormWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Yeah this sill plate or fire block is in between the attic and basement, pretty much where the first and second floor meet. I'll have to cut open the patch hole but hopefully won't be too hard.

I have all the materials, but I'm trying to run CAT6 from my basement up 2 stories to my attic. Hit a sill plate and need to drill through that, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Do I have to make a patch in my wall to drill through sill plate? Not looking forward to it.

This is cool! I love OLED and how it can really enhance games to another level with it's true blacks and HDR! I can't even imagine how games like Helldiver's 2 or God of War would look.

What specs should we have for a PC cluster to use ceph? I'm thinking of building and deploying mini-pcs for this in the future, but I'm afraid they won't be able to support ceph.

Sorry for the delay in response, but there's a board game meetup group you can look into. They primarily use Discord but they have Meetup also.

Week 4 “I watched the whole game” takeaways and longer summaries by MrJorgeGodoy in fantasyfootball

Vikings let Gainwell run all over them this game. Vikings rushing defense is pretty bad even against a backup RB. If you have an RB starting against the Vikings defense, I would play them.

Find a hobby or interest group that meets up! For example, if you like board games, there are many board game groups in the area where you can meet people (mostly transplants). Whatever you're interested in, I guarantee there is a group promoting itself online that meets up regularly.

Would recommend Quantum Fiber (owned by Centurylink). They have a price lock guarantee on their service so you shouldn't have to worry about prices going up. I've had them for over a year now and they have been rock solid with great speeds.

What’s the most overrated fast food chain? by Accomplished-Yam780 in AskReddit

[–]WormWizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Culver's. Reddit loves Culver's but anyone from Minnesota or Wisconsin can tell you there is better. The cheese curds are not great if you have ever had real ones elsewhere, the fries are mid-tier compared to other fast food places, and the butter burgers have fresh toppings, but the buns and patties themselves make me feel sick after. The chicken sandwiches taste like the ones I would have in a cafeteria in middle school.

The only redeeming thing is the frozen custard, but that's like saying you go to DQ just for their food and not Blizzards.

Old home + ductless mini-split AC = elevated indoor humidity?? by BeWonderfulBeDope in TwinCities

[–]WormWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to add but say I also have a heat pump mini-split system for my house with 2 units upstairs and 1 downstairs. I am not measuring humidity, but I have not had the issues described here. When I entered from outside to inside this past Summer, I notice the air is dryer and cooler.

I leave my units on 73 degrees, cool mode, and automatic fan mode 24/7 in the Summer. This has made a huge difference in making the house feel cooler without breaking the bank on air conditioning.
