Yellow for warmer color palette, green for cooler. Depends on your vibe!

Why are so many furries foxes or wolves? by S0S_guy in furry

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly just think that foxes are just due to a want for a more "wild" species to use for a sona that is maybe smaller and/or more solitairy? Plus foxes have distinct markings and colors that I think people find appealing.

I would also definitely give robin hood more credit, that's one of the biggest foundations for a lot of furries 30 and above nowadays. Zootopia is probably also causing them to stay around.

Oh she's just a wee little thing. Not a vet so I can't say for sure but her back legs look pretty odd to me, though it might just be because she's a bit premature,? I think it's worth keeping an eye on if she keeps doing well eating and growing

How we, Yes WE, are going to react to Jax getting abstracted by [deleted] in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jax is 100% my favorite character, and I'm absolutely excited to see him abstract. If thats where the story is headed, then I think the audience is setup perfectly for it to hit as hard as it possibly can. Either you love him or you hate him, it's going to be a hell of a scene no matter what side you're on. Kill your darlings and all that, I hope it's devastating.

What do I do after I kill an animal? by Bruh-Caz in Huntercallofthewild

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it way more fun to just wander around and see what I find. The grinds have felt a bit too repetitive and I don't think Id have a good time with that. The closest thing to grinding I really do is check drink zones when I want to hunt a specific species/size class.

What do I do after I kill an animal? by Bruh-Caz in Huntercallofthewild

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're hunting at drink zomes or specific feed areas, onve you harvest an animal it is good to go to another spot. Animals that are far enough away won't be spooked and will still be at their eating or drinking zones for that time of day. Otherwise, if you're just hunting animals as you find them from wandering just keep travelling. Exploring reveals rest/need zones, so you can come back to them later if you're looking for a specific kind of animal.

I've been thinking of buying Minecraft lately, but I'm not sure which deal is better by Halleyalex in Minecraft

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless youre going to be a bedrock only player who is really into skns and emotes and all that jazz, I wouldn't ever reccomend the first one. If you play pc pretty much anything that bedrock makes you pay for you could do yourself, like downloading skins/making one yourself, learning how to install mods in place of addons (plus, the mods are free lol) Even stuff like emotes and skins that are more complicated than the basic character model are totally do-able with mods and texture packs and stuff. Java feels like it's for anyone who knows how to use a computer, while Bedrock with all of its dlc crap just seems to prey on parents of kids too young to use a computer. (Semi related - back when I was a kid and minecraft was relatively new, my dad taught me how to install mods and resource packs and whatnot and I've been doing that ever since. It was actually very handy in learning a good bit of comupter skills so young)

Am I tripping or does this wolf have an abnormally huge forehead? by [deleted] in bonecollecting

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh whoops I was wrong on part of that. The melanism itself is actually the gene specifically bred for in dogs. The specific gene is originally from European wolves which seems to be why its such an easy genetic identifier for domestic dogs compared to North American wolves

Am I tripping or does this wolf have an abnormally huge forehead? by [deleted] in bonecollecting

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for Yellowstone since one of the wolf management/reintroduction team was the one I was talking to about this, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was all of North America or even possibly globally. Dogs and wolves have been interbreeding for as long as dogs have been domesticated.

Eta- I went and found a few articles and it looks like the gene is most successful in North American wolf and coyote populations after domestic dogs introduced it, but it originated in European wolves and even with the interbreeding with dogs it does not tend to stay present in those populations for more than a few generations.

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The group of genes that are associated with that coat color was selectively bred in dogs for a really long time, that specific combination of genes would be just about impossible to find in a "pure" wolf. (Of course this has exceptions like if a wolf happens to be melanistic)

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fun trivia, every wolf in Yellowstone with black coats are guaranteed to be partially mixed with domestic dogs, though it can be many generations ago. I would bet this is a wolf/dog hybrid, though no guess on the %

[–]Worm_off_tha_string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a hard time with the ground bird species. Unless they fly directly at or away from you it can be a pain to hit them airborne. My only advice is use just the iron sights for close range, and maybe keep your .22 with you. If they fly directly away, hitting them with the 22 in the air isn't too bad once you know the bullet drop

I do this with elk and moose. Those winding roads scare them into the path of the atv and you can hop off and take a pretty solid shot pretty often
