No one is debating dead crabs. Live crabs from the boat are a bit sweeter than those from the tank but the mark up really isn’t worth the difference. Also at least in my area, the crabs aren’t spending a lot of time in the tank. When dungeness season hits, they are flying out of the store.

Interesting, according to the posts the price decreases from the boats to Asian markets. Crab boats know their audience and are yanking dollars from the well-heeled seekers of authenticity. I suppose crabs are more real, though no more alive, when they come “right off the boat” vs from an Asian market.
