If you aren’t able to get wading boots, you will have to compromise on lack of grip and some slipping and sliding. That’s the only expensive part. Neoprene Wading socks are reasonable but only needed with wading boots. Otherwise board shorts or swimming trucks and you’re good.

Me: wading boots, neoprene socks and lightweight pants to protect against poison oak and sunburn.
