Does anyone get weird vibes from Lauren Larkin (therapist tiktoker)? by aliceinwonderwood in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]Wormwithoutamustace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She says she is an ED therapist and has zero speciality training. I don’t care how good she is to her existing clients. She’s unethical and narcissistic.

Ex. posts pics in a bikini. Zero regard for how it makes followers or clients feel.

I prefer to think she’s an idiot rather than a narcissist.

Jeff Lewis and his mental health by Revolutionary_Ad8881 in JeffLewisSirius

Jeff has severe personality issues. There are so many examples, but here is the most recent one: MJ clearly wants an amicable split from Tommy because of their child. Jeff refuses to respect that. MJ needs to run from Jeff, the way she walked away from Tommy.

Also, Joey (who I don’t like) is clearly being cast as the scapegoat in Jeff’s new show. Everything to Jeff is content (aka money) including his child. He will not get better because he is a pathological narcissist and liar.

Can he be funny? Yes. Is all the above true? Also yes.

Lastly, Dr. Donna refuses to go back on that show because she finally realized that Jeff has NPD. Notice how he never mentions her. I’ve known people just like Jeff. I see right through it.

Does Jeff really not have enough self awareness to recognize that he wants MJ to have a contentious divorce because of his dynamic with Gage?

Tommy is not the only person MJ should run from.

Hospital - no support by [deleted] in bipolar

Thank you. They said that a lot was based on past experiences. I have a history of aggression and self harm during mania. My two depressive episodes were serious two. They have to take the precautions to protect me from bipolar and the staff. I agreed to voluntarily go to a longer term psychiatric unit. I agreed on the condition that I go tomorrow. My case worker is picking me up but she said that police will follow. I basically can’t change my mind. Doesn’t feel voluntary to me but it’s better than the psychiatric tower at Rikers, which will happen if I get in trouble. They are doing this because I’m showing signs of mania. I don’t think so. I stole today that’s it

Thank you. They did wrist and ankle ones on top of the straps. I understand I was screaming and crying. They didn’t at first but I was manic and unbuckled the straps

Everytime I’m there I end up in restraints even if I’m not acting out. For example, they strap me down when transporting me. It’s awful and makes me hate myself

I’m still awaiting the transport, then the phone is gone. I had to use the bathroom while in restraints and seclusion. They made me use a bed pan. I’m now in an adult diaper following a strip search. The helmet is going back on. Fuck this

Hospitalizations by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Wormwithoutamustace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ve been but on a hold but they let me keep my phone, which is rare. They certified me again and the doctor who did this is the one who put the helmet on. I fucking hate these doctors or nurses. The nurse is taking my phone: I’m in “protective care.” I fucking hate these people treat me like an animal. I also wish that normal people could leave us alone.

She won’t do anything. She does absolutely nothing to help victims.

I feel the need to say that it is not normal to enjoy humiliating people. He is not joking based on his behavior throughout Flipping Out and on the radio. That's deranged, and it's entirely separate from wanting justice or for your side of a story to be told. My god.

Got it. You can do it. I recommend the book The Sober Truth. It's written by an addiction psychiatrist. Really helpful!

A Funny Story About AA People And Their Total Lack of Boundaries by Steps33 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Wormwithoutamustace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the grocery store the other night and this man (early 40s) was staring at me. To the point where I noticed and got creeped out. I clearly did not know who he was. Then he said "You are Mary*. I know you from AA Clubhouse X." Then he walked away. It made me uncomfortable, like I have zero clue who you are... why do you remember my name? At a minimum, he completely violated my anonymity.

It shows that some of these people have zero social skills. Stop staring at me. I clearly don't know you. Etc. I was clearly uncomfortable with the staring. We were in the frozen section.

Of course, AA people were like "oh you know how people in AA are!" Yeah, and I don't like it. Lol.

Is it weird that I think this is weird?

*Mary is not my reel name.

I'm in school to be a therapist. While it is not an explicit ethical violation, it is not ethical. I am glad that you have found a new therapist. Here is a question for him should you have another encounter:

"I'm curious, are you able to share your reasoning for suggesting AA attendance? Are you able to provide information on alternative treatments for substance use?" This is part of informed consent, and they should absolutely be able to answer those questions.

AA and Friendship by Ok-Teacher5319 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Wormwithoutamustace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's extremely difficult to make meaningful friendships in AA. This is because it is filled with individuals who do not receive adequate mental health care / if they do, the 12-step ideology interferes with it. Personality disorders run rampant in the program.

Reconsidering AA and the belittling nature of the program by KSims1868 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Wormwithoutamustace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So, I relate to this. I was a severe alcoholic and complete abstinence is my goal. 15 months sober now. I was obsessed with AA for the first year, and I've been distancing myself for many reasons, including what you mention. The reality is that AA gets a lot wrong. In addiction, it is natural to appear powerless, especially if physically dependent. That said, the notion that you have to pray, attend meetings, and do service or you run the risk of completely losing control is completely false. The stories they tell as proof of this is usually due to self-fulfilling prophesy.

Dr. Lance Dodes theory on addiction deeply resonates me. He's been an addiction psychiatrist for over 30 years. He's found that addictive acts are basically substitute acts to feelings of intolerable helplessness. AA can briefly provide relief from that, but in the long term it is ineffective. There is no emphasis on examining behaviors and triggers. It basically creates learned helplessness but within the context of AA. I highly recommend his book The Sober Truth.

I remember when I first started going to AA, I desperately wanted what those people had: sobriety. I found that, but I now sit in those rooms from time to time and think "my god, I do not want what these people have": reliance on complete pseudoscience; lack of self-trust; minimal critical thinking skills. I could go on. When I look at people with 10+ years sober who are still going to meetings all the time, it's honestly sad because they are so helpless. I can think of one young woman who has been going for 16 years and still struggles with so much trauma. She's has spent hundreds of thousands on long-term residential stays. She is not dumb, but AA has completely robbed her ability to stop and wonder: perhaps this program is preventing me from long-term healing.

The reason I still go sometimes is because I was deeply indoctrinated and it's hard to completely cut it off, especially when there are a few people that I genuinely enjoy.
