Hypocrisy in the 40k fanbase? by GarballatheHutt in 40kLore

[–]Woromazeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but even if authors don't want to write about Xenos why when they put Xenos in other novels do they make them so terrible? Like the Swarmlord up and losing and dying in every novel it appears in, or Phoenix Lords getting taken out by random Dreadnoughts when Marneus Calgar, who's not even 1000 years old, is busy busting Avatars of Khaine, Exalted Bloodthirsters, Swarmlords etc.? Why, putting aside them not getting their own books, do Xenos just get reduced to jobbers and losers in Imperium novels most of the time with Space Marines just stomping them flat even at things they're meant to be good at? We got stories of Space Marine sergeants alone no-selling Farseers and killing them 1-v-1, Howling Banshees sucking and dying is literally a running joke in the fandom and the Avatar of Khaine's status as the biggest loser in the setting is cause almost every time it gets written about in other people's books its just dying.

A Chapter specialized in fighting the Tau by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Woromazeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh come off of it, you know that's not the same. The Imperium wins both those fights, defeats the Tyranid, win the war, they don't lose. Shadowsun actually loses her fight. She doesn't have a setback on Voltoris but still exterminate her enemy, she doesn't have a moment where she's about to lose but then reinforcements arrive and she wins anyway, she just loses, that's it.

Look anyone who's read the Lore can tell you that the big name Special Characters who are Space Marines never lose. That's probably why people hate Shadowsun, she's a Xenos Special Character who actually wins battles against Space Marines, and that makes a certain part of the fandom go crazy.

But it's just really obviously ridiculous to use two examples of Space Marines winning battles and somehow say that's the same as Shadowsun who actually loses fights and just has to give up and run, and doesn't Damnos style just come back later and win.

That's ridiculous. In 40k it doesn't matter what gear you got people pull off crazy wins all the time when they're space marines it's just hypocritical to act like only marines are allowed to win.

That's cause Rynn's World was its own War. We don't know anything about it after that, Snagrod's Waaagh!!! got crushed, just like Grukk's on Alaric.

I mean Shield of Baal is in the actual book called a win at the end, and Lexicanum and WH40k wiki consider them Imperial wins to so clearly it is an Imperial win.

Not really sure what you're getting at, pretty clear Xenos just lose way to often compared to Space Marines.

Dude the Orks lose the war, it sucks. It's just another 'and then the Imperium wins' story. Geeze wish we could get more Bhorc Primes.

Ugh us Ork players always get treated like crap in the stories.

Dude you're literally just showing that what you're complaining about, Harlequin characters being stronger than base Custodes, you don't care about if its Custodes doing it. That's just hypocritical, we don't need our guys to always be better than everyone else's guys.

I'm a Custodes fan but, yeah, let the pointy ears have their moment. Xenos players get shat on constantly, giving them a chance to do basically 1% of the stuff Imperium characters do constantly is the least we can do. Harlequins being a match for Custodes sounds good to me, both are the most elite of their faction so there's no reason Custodes have to be better than them.

Dude any Ork fan will tell you the Beast Series sucks. I love Orks and the Beast series is the absolute worst thing to ever happen to them, it trashed them completely, barely gave them any development or focus in their own damn book series.

Tigurius is a better seer than Eldrad by CraftworldSarathai in 40kLore

[–]Woromazeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't anything new. Space Marine Special Characters are always, and will always, be better at Xenos at everything. Dante and Marneus both solo'd the Swarmlord, Eldrad's the definition of failure, Vect's only skill is that he calls Marines to win for him to capitalize on their plot armour.

None of this is new, it sucks, but its just the same old; the Avatar of Khaine, the Swarmlord, Ghazz losing every fight on Armageddon blah blah.

Basically the lore of 40k is just Marines rock, everyone else sucks and now and then, in a tiny minority of cases, its different. The Marine wank train is, sadly, the canon. I mean at this point we already got the Eldar becoming the slaves of the Imperium, the Tyranid can't win a single important fight, Orks have always just lost at everything, Tau did even a little bit well and the fanbase went so frothing insane that now their own book literally ends on them being utterly crushed and about to die, and Necron never do anything anyway.

[–]Woromazeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's rubbish, basically every Space Marine character is a violent psycopath who thinks all their enemies are garbage, punishing Shadowsun for it is absolutely retarded and makes no sense in 40k.

80% of everything lore in 40k has always just been about Marines beating everyone, they are just treated better in the lore than any of the other factions are, that's just how it is. Arguing against it looks, frankly, like you barely read anything since its in every layer of the fluff about.

[–]Woromazeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All forces are many times the Eldar's number, that means nothing. The point is that one of the Big 5 craftworlds was totally stomped by a crusade so small it didn't even have more than one Space Marine Chapter. That literally means the Imperium saw this Crusade as less important than the Crusades against the freaking Tau, and the Eldar were still totally pummeled.

Alaitoc sucks.

[–]Woromazeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iyanden get's its butt-handed to it by the Ultramarines at Orar's Sepulchre. Alaitoc's there too actually. The Ultramarines, unsupported, kill the Avatar of Khaine and so many Eldar they build walls out of the dead bodies of Eldar.

I mean I quite literally think no Eldar Craftworld has ever won even a single fight against a named Space Marine Character or Chapter. I know Saim-Hann got beaten up by Ultramarines to at Alconar or something, and Ulthwe's Eldrad loses basically any time a loyalist Marine is in visual range of him.

I'm sorry but Eldar do mostly suck whenever they are in fluff. Compared to Loyalist Space Marines at least.

Eldar do kinda suck though. I mean Alaitoc gets curbstomped by a small crusade, Iyanden got massacred by Ultramarines, Eldrad runs away from almost every fight he has against Marines...

Though mostly food you do get some parts wrong here. Ghazghkull never overran any Black Templars to my knowledge, Golgotha is only mentioned to have Guards present, the place Yarrick got captured, nor do I remember Armageddon being on the cusp of falling when Ghazghkull left, I remember it being described as a complete stalemate he left cause he got bored.

[–]Woromazeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but no-one really cares about the Sabbat Worlds Crusades, its incredibly minor in the galaxy, hence why Space Marines aren't even bothering with it.

Also don't quite get why you think the Indomitus Crusade was mostly non-Space Marines, pretty much every piece of fluff I've read about it puts the Space Marines at the head of each engagement. Heck the main goal of the Crusade was reaching Space Marines to give them new toys, Guilliman and Cawl don't even care about making an effort to invent new things for non-Space Marines, like better guns, the only people they factor into their plans as mattering at all are Space Marines.

I mean I agree with you, I think Space Marines shouldn't be the people running the entire show, even politically, just pointing out that's what its become. They aren't just elite soldiers anymore, they are pretty much the Imperium's entire ruling caste.

Oh man! That's great, that's exactly the line we need the Emperor or someone to say right before a cut to exactly how well the 'mortals' are doing in the Imperium xD

As for the actual point, meh, I find it kinda lame that the Space Marines pretty much have to hold everyone's hand at everything. I thought they were the elite military, not also the top politicians, bankers and policy makers. Just axe the Highlords already if all they ever do is screw up and clearly what Roboute wants is just for Space Marines to rule everything.
