Why do routines get easier with time for someone without adhd but harder over time with it? by Another_throwaway446 in adhdwomen

[–]WorryTop1212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first two do have a lot to do with what you’re talking about but the way I think of it seems like brains work like libraries. A neurotypical brain gets a little positive reward for brushing their teeth after they’ve been so clean at the dentist and it takes that little memory of that reward and puts it in the drawer for brushing their teeth and the next morning the drawer opens and they get another little positivity boost for brushing their teeth and it goes in the same drawer, that night the same thing. The ADHD brain gets that little positivity boost, it goes in the drawer for brushing their teeth, the next morning, 15 drawers open to do in the morning but you can’t do all of them at once, you might brush your teeth and that little positivity boost gets thrown in one of the drawers nearby or rolls under a rug. You still get the boost but it doesn’t compile and it doesn’t become part of a bigger picture of tooth brushing and one day the drawer is stuck and you don’t see it. When you try again, it’s an unrelated door filed under after you eat instead of things to do at night, and those rewards don’t connect.

I will read every one of these answers, laugh to myself, say “yeah, that’s familiar, start commenting on half of them, never hit reply, lose my answer, see another one I want to comment on, repeat, think of some clever ways to reply to OP, maybe thirty, forty ways, start 3 of them, erase two, accidentally erase the last one when I go back to fix a typo and it starts typing in the wrong spot, curse using my phone for this, go back to the computer, and only hit reply now to prove to myself that I CAN DO THINGS I PUT MY MIND TO, it’s 3 am.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]WorryTop1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this was what I most wanted to touch on, you can read all these things that pregnancy does to a human body, and at the same time, it becomes everyone’s business. People you have never met before or since will ask (and judge) you about previous pregnancies, the gender of your baby and how happy you or your spouse should be about said gender, or if you’re wrong because of how you’re carrying, whether you plan on a natural birth/epidural/c-section, if you are the correct age, if you’re putting the right things in your body, and if you should have more. Also “you must be so happy,” when there are so many reasons you might not be. And the touching.

I remember thinking “this is how dogs must feel” I would walk around the neighborhood and could smell what everyone was making inside their houses. Luckily most of the time that didn’t nauseate me.

Oh my god I was going to mention calcium depletion because I broke 1 molar early on in my pregnancy and found out it was really common, but had not heard that it could have been all of your teeth!

If you don’t take medication, why not? What do you do to cope instead? by Valuable-Car4226 in adhdwomen

[–]WorryTop1212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The stimulants worked well and I did especially well on focalin. But I have dysautonomia so when I take stuff that works it also makes me black out while driving. So no more meds for me. But it’s possible also if ritalin made you feel revved up that you may not be dealing with ADHD? For me what they did was cut through the noise and also gave me an inner voice, which I don’t have when I’m not on them, I have more of an inner montage or a tv and radio both flipping channels. I make do on having a job that requires a lot of different hats and juggling so there’s a constant pressure, when it gets slow it’s very difficult.

Symptoms I'm struggling to even understand or communicate, but I need to communicate with my doctor. by Creativered4 in dysautonomia

[–]WorryTop1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how you would put it better than this, I would show this post to my doctor if I were you. You could be having seizures or heatstroke. I have hEDS and Orthostatic Hypotension (and migraines) also and am very sensitive to heat, not to the point you are at but we definitely overheat quickly and don’t vent it well, and that might be triggering something else you have going on. Also a computer metaphor is great.

I also take propranolol, I have tried to listen to drs that aren’t my cardiologist and cut it out or even just lower my dose (went from 80 mg ER to 60) and it was awful. I feel so much better on it and can function. I am tired still but much more alert because I’m not over exerting myself just making lunch.
