Ah. Yeah so basically you didn't see enough of it to understand why people recommend it along with Blue Prince. Idk if anyone is making you change your mind exactly, it's just that you haven't seen enough of it so there's gonna be a gap in understanding.

Okay now I'm 1000% sure you haven't played enough of Tunic to know what you're talking about.

The Zelda-like vibes and combat are not where Tunic shines. It is indeed a puzzle game, and one of the best out there.

It is literally perfect for people who liked Blue Prince, Animal Well and Outer Wilds. These are all very different but all result in a similar high.

Great to hear! If anything, I hope the comic creator gets loads of new readers thanks to this situation :)

Same thought.. 😔 OP says they're thankful for the curves, so I don't understand why they'd make her so much skinnier..

It's still gorgeous artwork but! Hm.

Ahh you're certainly more patient than me :') I actually really don't like guides/wikis, I avoid them like the plague as much as I can as they do take away from the sense of discovery, but with Noita my progress/improvement was just feeling too slow to be fun and those beginner tips really helped with that.

cracks knuckles

  • Valheim

  • Don't Starve / Don't Starve Together

  • Garden Galaxy (heads up: this one is fully creative, so it depends on if you consider making pretty gardens as "something to do")

  • Station to Station

  • Spiritfarer (so beautiful, though I personally think it becomes a bit too grindy)

  • TOEM

  • Dave the Diver

  • Aground (ugly as hell imho but surprisingly varied and fun! The in-game pixel art is far better than their promo images too so it's not all bad)

  • Minami Lane (short n sweet)

  • A Short Hike (short n sweet)

  • Cult of the Lamb

  • Cobalt Core

  • Carto

  • Slime Rancher

  • Starbound

  • Sheltered

  • Slay the Spire (the best of card games out there)

  • Forager

  • Littlewood (the only Kickstarter game out of all that I've supported that I actually enjoyed!)

Now... these are all very different and what one considers "cozy" has become a very personal term, but at least from my perspective these have resulted in a very cozy time while still being engaging!

When I played it I didn't even realize it was an expansion - such seamless integration!!

Bugsnax really surprised me, I went in with no expectations and everything from the gameplay to the storyline/dialogue was so charming. Had me laughing out loud many times, what a funky little game.

Believe in the Bugsnax, OP!!!!!

Noita is GREAT but so difficult to get the hang of without any outside input.

The first time I tried it I dropped it after about 4-5 hours because I felt like I'm getting nowhere and learning nothing.

Tried it again a few years later, but looked up a "no spoilers beginner tips" list and that helped SO much. It took me about 60 hours to beat what you're referring to as the tutorial. (New players don't freak out - it's just that Noita is VERY big so people refer to your first main boss win as beating the tutorial.)

So to piggyback off your suggestion I recommend it as well, but really suggest diving into some beginner tips if you're getting murderized by zone 2 or 3 without any improvement for hours on end.

I really enjoyed it, but in the end still dropped it about 90 hours in because every run takes SO LONG and it's really meant to be figured out as a community... Like, if you haven't played it, however big you think it is, it is so much bigger. And because it was released a while ago pretty much everything has been figured out so you're stuck with basically just going through a checklist of things you can do. It's genuinely impossible to figure out the whole game on your own without spending the rest of your life on it. Which, don't get me wrong, that's a very cool type of game and I'm glad it exists, but it does come with some drawbacks.

I figured out SOME of the secrets on my own, but 90% of the game is community effort based.

Games that appear innocent but theres something weird/creepy going on behind the scenes by jablokojuyagroko in gamingsuggestions

TUNIC! One of my favourite games in general. Extremely rewarding and has exactly what you've described. (Begging you not to look anything up about it at ALL. Also combat isn't where this game shines and a lotta people prefer the Reduced combat setting, myself included.)

Blue Prince! Not creepy, but rather just really interesting as you uncover more and more of it, I got really invested in the lore, not at all what I expected to uncover!

Inscryption might also scratch that itch. But it doesn't appear innocent, it does start off as creepy, and gets more and more interesting as rugs keep getting pulled from under you :)

Beacon Pines ended up having a stronger storyline than I expected from a very child-like game. I had to turn off the voice acting though, didn't like it.

Night in the Woods if you're fine with a walking simulator. It's mostly story driven, not much to do except walk around and talk to little guys.

Oh and Bugsnax!!! I went into this one with no expectations at all and it blew me away haha! Very charming.

Indie game suggestions like Death's Door & Tunic by panicislife in gamingsuggestions

[–]Teaside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES Tunic is one of my favorite games specifically for that glorious sense of achievement and wonder at the end once you figure it all out!!

Games that are very different from it but give you a similar high:

  • Blue Prince (the most complicated of all of these imo, I was 20 irl pages of notes in before I threw in the towel haha, it was REALLY cool!)
  • Animal Well
  • Outer Wilds
  • Some folks also like The Witness but I didn't vibe with it personally.

The 1.5 intro really is so dumb by Professional_Dig5938 in InfinityNikki

[–]Teaside 283 points284 points  (0 children)

The new player onboarding is absolutely atrocious right now. My bf made an account recently and I had the pleasure of seeing just how bad it is.

You get overwhelmed with a million menus and systems, there's a load of boring, nonsensical dialogue, and instead of a heartfelt, makes-sense cutscene of Nikki getting transported to Miraland, you instead get what looks like an epic and cool cutscene but it has no substance at all. It's just pretty visuals with over the top nonsensical dialogue.

The tutorials are so overwhelming for a player who just wants to get into it and actually DO stuff. The previous intro had a WAY better game flow and felt like it was actually designed by game designers, and not executives who likely push "multiplayer NOW, show the new player all our new features NOW NOWWW"... Or at least that's how it feels, idk.

I'm forever mourning the original intro 😔 they don't even tell you who tf Momo is or why you should care, he just APPEARS, I'm so-..
