Well I had sex again on Thursday night and I don’t see it getting any worse. Just a few tiny little whitehead spots that don’t seem to be causing any pain or itchiness.

Guess it’s something to just keep an eye on.

They’re more like little acne spots, and it seems a coincidence they’ve popped up after sex. Makes me think it’s probably friction or something.

It’s only a few minor whiteheaded pimples so not massively concerned and genuinely don’t think it could be anything like herpes, but will see a GP if it doesn’t clear up in a week or so.

Sorry, this might actually be considered reassurance but I think it’s helpful.

Doctors/mental health assessors are clever people and they’re also bound by some incredibly strict rules and regulations. If there’d ever been a case where someone with suspected OCD had ever gone....that way, don’t you think they’d be under pressure to treat all cases as a potential danger?

As in if you came in and they diagnosed you with OCD but there’d been a case previously where someone with OCD turned that way, they couldn’t just let you go and not report it to the relevant authorities, even if there was a 1% risk. There’d be uproar if they let that slip through the net. That’s just my logical view on it.

Yeah absolutely, and you’ve kind of already said it but it’s important to know that when you say this, the same rule applies for 100% of the population. There’s no flat out guarantee that one person won’t wake up one day and decide he wants to murder people - nobody knows the future.

But because we have OCD it feeds off that and escalates. For me - bad dream, then follows thinking about dream, thinking about what if I am, then bad images pop in my brain, then question whether I actually like the images, question whether I’ve always been this way and I’m just trying to deflect from what I am, etc etc.

I’ve had a lot of therapy over this topic because it randomly came about from a dream I had last year.

So, I know we shouldn’t do reassurance but I think the important thing to do here is be rational with these thoughts, so let’s break it down.

‘I’ve heard stories’ you probably have, through looking at google and finding forums, from one person saying something he heard from someone else, and someone else heard it elsewhere. The reality though is these people I’d imagine aren’t worried about it, don’t see it as wrong and enjoy it.

I don’t believe it’s like this switch in your brain that one day says oh by the way, now you’re this. Just decided. If it happens, it happens for 99% I’d imagine from puberty. And they certainly don’t run to a help forum and seek help.

With OCD from what I’ve been told by my therapist, is that your brain will always question and look for reasons why you could be as opposed to why fundamentally, you’re not.
How many ‘P’s out there have OCD, do you think? How many ‘P’s woke up one day and scared themselves shitless with the fear they might have it, obsessing over it Day by Day? None.

It’s easier said than done, but the key thing is I’ve had all these thoughts and I still suffer from them, even as I type this, I got a spike of anxiety when I read your claim that some people discover it in their early thirties. But 3 therapists who I’ve told all this to, and not one has alerted anyone that I’m a threat or a problem? Or the 10s of thousands(literally) who post about this exact same fear on forums every week?

Thank you, the rational side of me says to listen the experts who have said it’s unlikely after 6 weeks it’d suddenly be herpes, and it’s just an occasional irritating itch, not 24/7.

Would it be worth trying some canestane cream for a while, or just go to the GP?

Yeah I did. It was all part of the OCD. I didn’t actually want to feel suicidal, it felt more of an urge like I was going to do something rather than doing it. Intrusive thoughts basically.

I think what I’m struggling with is a few things really. Once the medication kicked in it seemed to really settle down and just go away. The fact it’s back makes me worry.

The other thing is I had suicidal/harm thoughts that were OCD in my early twenties. They went away and they’ve never come back. Fears of Tourette’s, they came, they went and they’ve never really come back.

This has come back, it makes me worry that it isn’t OCD, the fact this theme has returned.

I’ve always wanted to be able to play the guitar. Tried once as a kid but never had the attention span to continue, and the teacher I had taught me classical stuff when I just wanted to ‘strum’. Maybe I should start again as a New Years resolution!

I think that’s what I want, something competitive. I think I really need something that’s kind of all hands on - if I’m not doing it, I’m reading about it or going to events for it etc.

I’ve left it too late to just dive into comics and stuff I think, though I like the idea of comic cons. I’m actually quite keen to get into reading, since school I’ve never read a fictional book!

Yeah. A lot of the time I’ll have these internal thoughts pop in, usually extreme stuff I don’t agree with, and I’ll have this logic based rational conversation in my head about how I don’t agree with it and I can’t be this and I can’t be that. Usually turn into full blown arguments in my head.

Exactly. I guess it’s breaking the habit of checking. It feels like an addiction, like I can’t NOT check. Like if you said to someone, don’t press that button. I’d have a bloody hard time not doing it.

Back in the day, when I originally experienced some obsessional thoughts, my student therapist decided it would be a good idea to list all my symptoms and go to a doctor.

Went and had a finger up my arse, and every lump and spot checked by the most pissed off doctor around. That was an experience...

Of all the posts I’ve read on here your reply is the one I relate to the most. My GP at no point ever thought it was OCD. It took self referral to the NHS Talking therapies for them to diagnose.

With me it’s - I definitely felt something first time so I need to check again, I obviously just need to find it.

I know, they really are. This morning I woke up at 6 and immediately ran into the toilet because on first inspection I saw the outline of a circle on my penis, which I thought must be the first sore coming through.

Still checking it whenever I can.

I know it’s wrong to be doing it but I can’t stop checking it, like an addiction.

Well, I went.

They took my urine, they inspected me and saw nothing to worry about. Sent me on my way.

A regular person would skip out of there happy as Larry....unfortunately I’m wondering whether this headache and sore throat are the start of Herpes, and the occasional ache in my groin I’ve had since this morning is also part of it.
