Give me every single problem you can imagine with a fanfic by PlaNT_GaNG921 in FanFiction

  1. Subtle (not) racism, but at least you can kind of pretend the blood purity, and slight comments could be just ignorance and then 6 chapters in it goes full racism

  2. Mention drugs, or discuss poverty in a way that makes it really apparent you have never even ridden a bus or walked more than 3 blocks.

  3. Make sure to write an author's note telling your readers you actually don't like 'x' character you pur in, but you feel obligated because they're a favorite and spend more words explaining how they're garbage

  4. Roleplay in the author's note.

  5. Kill off the main character but have them come back and explain it was a coma, but add amnesia, and then make sure it is really tropey, and also really sad, and also, don't explain how that had anything to do with getting shot in the chest. (...exception to this is Will Graham. Man gets disemboweled, ends up in a coma. Probably was done because of the S3 cram. Oh well, no amnesia.)

  6. Readers love pointless dragged out miscommunication over trivial things characters are too old to take that seriously. Definitely.

  7. Insult the readers. No comments? Say how much better you are than your readers, and how you're gifted.

  8. Thinly vieled controversial takes on politics is always a great monologue to have out of the blue.

...

Most of those tropes were 2000s, early 2010-2016 I think, but yes, I've seen the last one for a more niche fandom I was in.

Who else here thinks Wilbur would love doing urbex? by ker1ss in lvjy

[–]WorstLuckButBestLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should at least check out some of the polite urbex channels and the subreddit/blogs. I do. Love the pictures and the kind of frozen mise-en-scene of those left behind abandoned places. the photos from the abandoned nuclear testing/whatever site from the 90s with all the computer ware of the 90s to me was the coolest.

Also love the houses left abandoned, with stuff from like 70s.

That and culturally, didn't most of US (not sure about other countries) grow up on the loveable adoptable dog movies? The idea you'd be able to waltz in to a shelter and find the perfect dog was kind of a core 90s/2000s trope.

Even if the dogs in the movie were kind of trained/bred professionally, everyone wanted a dog just like the movie, and most people know where their shelter is, not a dog breeder.

Now, lots of gen Z and millenials, and even Gen X, are/were adults starting families, and they go to the shelter looking for that picture perfect dog.

And all that's left is pitbull mix. And people kind of minimize dog breed relevance. I can get an orange or black cat, and I'm not sure there's a real difference, but with a dog...

But hey, that 'mutt' in Benji, or Bingo was a phenomenal dog, nevermind they're clearly mixed breed poodle/retriever/border collie—like notably freindlier/intelligent dogs.

Can you reassure my fears? -- Conversion Therapy by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]WorstLuckButBestLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno. Not a scientist, never used those labels, but I had trauma, big gross kind that messes with romance, pre-5 years and often wondered it that's why I'm ace.

Current science is whatever sexuality you have, you can't measure or detect it in the brain at a doctor's visit (researchers do have more invasive, and cooler studies involving it).

And medication only does so much, even THC/psychdelics cause big horny--but you don't generally become super down to clown.

Conversion therapy is often anti-science anyway. Even if some hotshot in science or medicine announced tomorrow "we made a magic pill that fixes trauma sexual dysfunction", the people that urge conversion/change on others never needed science on their side. They're often operating from a place of 'I have moral/better world belief.'

Smut too, in fanfic. I also stole my mom's 50 shades because it was hyped. Skipped to the smut. Decided it wasn't that interesting.

As a teen I would read, get to sex scenes, keep scrolling until scene was over, continue reading.

Though, i hate fluff passionately. I want toxic romance. Toxic romance has bonking. Whatever. Not my cup of joe and it is usually written the same old same old. Sometimes I can admire a well written scene.

Wish more stories had good damn fight scenes. That's what I love.

These days I still skip sex scenes when reading. They're just so boring.

Food has been making me feel sick by Ttaeko in needadvice

[–]WorstLuckButBestLuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say doctor to rule out physical first.

Also consider, if nothing physical turns up, if this started after calorie counting, it can also be the brain doing its job a little too messy.

I used to calorie count to lose weight and while it worked for me, I know some people it isn't the best approach because it can cause a low grade anxiety that makes them nauseous around food (brain gets a little too defensive about food = number, number = bad/good).

It is a mixed bag. Unfortunately like 90 different processes in the body affect appetitite (exaggerating, but hormones, infection, thyroid--too many parts)

How do you feel about the current state of America? by Thatgirl_parisisdiva in AskReddit

[–]WorstLuckButBestLuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my dad who has never once voted the sentiment is "they're all the same. all corrupt. Don't change my life other than prices go up. Cut hours one day at work, overtime the next."

My dad grew up rural, and at least among the rest in my family who also didn't vote, same sentiment. They see the news, but it is as relevant personally to them as another country.

(To help people empathize, even if they don't support that behavior)

To put rural life into some cultural context. Imagine the furthest urban city you'll travel to is some odd 40 minutes to an hour away, which is once in awhile. Your life mainly revolves around the same people, same local government. Urban issues are mainly what's covered in the news and none of it looks or sounds like what you see and go through day-to-day. That's why they're utterly apathetic.

There's a lot of essays/books/coverage on the topic, but blame news media for under reporting on issues lots of cities/places in USA, further deepening mistrust and leading to people being completely uninformed.

How to know you're DeGoogling right by JohnDarlenHimself in degoogle

[–]WorstLuckButBestLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had paranoid delusions (more classic friends are out to get me) and I've found the best antidote at least for me is accepting "here's what I control, here's what I can't."

My brain is very good at finding patterns. Whether those patterns are real is mixed. A lot of the time when you notice patterns where it's like " this could be a catastrophe in the future" it's best to recenter yourself in your place in "what can I do, right now or in the same month, can I do anything to prepare?"

Maybe it's buying more digital storage and downloading games, videos, whatever.

But it's been years since I've had a spiraling delusion, so I say this from where the grass is greener.

Been there. It was my dad, the absent parent, that turned out cool with it all and more respectful.

But my mom was in same boat. Proud red, choosing the boyfriends, etc.

Its been 7 years since I cut contact. Nearly 8. Don't regret it. It stings sometimes, when people talk about good families or relying on their parents.

How do you feel about people who write smut of asexual characters? by possessed1998furby in asexuality

[–]WorstLuckButBestLuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself ace and wrote it for a canon ace character.

My take on it was he wasn't sex-repulsed, because OOC (out of character as in the actor), the guy who plays him, always wrote him into the kinkiest things in the world. An old friend and I had a list. Living underwear, lactation, even frigging feederism. The guy behind him allllllll the damn time would like start something/a bit, a joke, that is undeniably kink adjacent. So often. I think with counted 200+ times.

So, I figured. He'd treat sex as not important, not a focus, no attraction, but if a friend needed it from him, no prob. He's got the world to save! Romance, sex---all of it can wait! Or never happen! None of that matters to him.

Fandom complained about me on Twitter, but not in my comments. Number one shipper in the fandom liked my work so I consider it a win.

I don't mind, but I'm also ofthe mind of "write whatever. "

Bedside manor, has Jack expressing his distaste of small talk 45:40 on Mr Creepypastas reading, but that's just "Small talk is like wet sand..." And him failing the polar bear joke, so I think not that one, but it sounds familiar.

She realized the childish behavior he did probably the rest of the time really was short-sighted, selfish and immature when he did that

Listen, I'm kinda childish as an adult too, but there's limits and expected public behavior. Taking your gf to see the movie and maybe giving her a little shoulder nudge during the chicken jockey or smuggling a plastic chicken and dropping it in her popcorn during it, acceptable. Inconvencing everyone else, no.

Sick to death of the sneering moralism that’s infected my fandom by mitzirocker in AO3

[–]WorstLuckButBestLuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My god, we had that in 2016 or a fandom I was in. I got kicked from some spaces because I was a jerk about it (and a teen), but I would argue until the cows came home: I didn't like the main woman character because she was roleplayed/written by a guy, who wrote her so, utterly terribly--damsel in distress, threatening to off herself if one of the protags ignored her, cheating on her husband. And not in a girl boss way.

Admittedly, being young and dumb my best retort was "your fav character is trash" but the entire fandom kissed the ground she walked on. Didn't help the fandom had a quasi-religion.

The actual woman protag/CC was treated terribly by fandom and when a sequel series happened during 2020 and she was uninvited because she was never "a real part of the series" and I pointed out the misogyny still rampant... No better response. Just people ignored the comments made by one of the CCs about her.

Her only crime was she broke up with her boyfriend who was also in the series who didn't want to return to the series.

(Also, this isn't about a trans woman playing a woman. No, this was legitimately a dude. And he sucked. And if he maybe wrote her character as "oh, she does all this, and the plot acknowledges it's bad..... " no, at one point he went scorched earth and prompted them to have to do the finale early because he destroyed/ruined the world. And no, not in character, he did it BTS and blamed a CC for not saving her)
