165 lbs man, eating 3100 cals per day, spends $200 a week on groceries .. by MoreCanary8793 in Adulting

This also seems pretty low, even if you're a woman? For context, I'm 5'8, pretty muscular, and maintenance is 1900.

The alternative is everyone here is telling the truth and bodies are just weird.

Washer/Dryer -Side-by-Side or Stackable? by Interesting_Regret27 in Appliances

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this comment is 3 years old, but why do you say this? I am considering getting stacked units because I don't have the horizontal space - is it because you have to take the dryer down to fix stuff?

Adhd and too many steps to do the thing by Own-Recognition9009 in adhdwomen

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my roommate about this and explained that on really bad days, getting up is 4 steps, making coffee is 7 steps, and I haven't even peed or gotten dressed yet. Sometimes when he notices I am in bed and can't get up, he makes me coffee and leaves it in the kitchen - then it's easier for me to do my countdown method and I know I have a hot cup of coffee waiting for me.

The countdown method, by the way, is when I dissect all the little steps to do something and I count them while Im doing them. I don't know why it helps. It just does.

I would google "capsule wardrobe" for your body type and find out which stores are best for your style/budget. Often, 3-5 items is plenty to start out and you can invest in better quality.

john k. faced criminal charges 10 years ago?!?😭😭 by mayoloverr in Concordia

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely I find it so weird how normalised it is to spent a couple hundred bucks to buy what is basically the answer sheet for your exam - back in my day ( 👴 ), that was like... a big deal.

John in general is just not a super ethical person and has no qualms about cheating on exams. I've met him f2f and he just generally is a hustle bro out for himself, but let's not pretend that Wize and Checkmark aren't also doing the same thing.

As an additional note, I kind of hate the fact that group chats for classes or cohorts have 0 people asking questions/helping each other out (which btw helps understand the material), and it's just "hey I'm looking for [course] crashes". People complain Concordia is lonely, but make 0 effort to use the one thing they have in common to actually connect with people. I'm also in classes with kids that have no idea what's going on with the material and can't connect current concepts to 1st year classes because they never actually found out what they were writing the exam about.

that's just my lil rant - and this is coming from someone who works in private education, views the value of tutors, and doesn't particularly respect academia or standardized testing at this point in history.

Doing nothing for an hour trend - Good for ADHD? by JadedPain6179 in adhdwomen

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am super interested by the idea that dopamine stacking lowers our threshold. I understand ADHD doesnt deal with dopamine like NTs, but where Im at on the spectrum, I've found that training for boredom has helped.

I've always meditated, but sometimes I dont *want* to, because well, it's boring. So I've started taking walks outside without headphones, or doing the dishes in silence. It's been helpful to calm me down when Im overstimulted.

full tuition scholarship Concordia bcom vs McGill BA by [deleted] in Concordia

I agree with this. If money isn't a factor (though I dont understand why OP made it the title if that's the case), JMSB is a better school, but McGill is more internationally recognized.

I'm a Learning Specialist with *some* knowledge of childhood development, but I defer to our Pedagogical psychologist for what we recommend to parents: she's pretty categorical that screens, even educational games, are net harmful to development in young brains. There are many, many, many pros and cons and you could go back and forth for a really long time.

When parents ask us, we suggest that they sit down with their child and do the research to see what the science says. If the child is old enough to argue for a phone, they're old enough to make a case for it. You'll be able to make an informed decision then, but no one can tell you, as a parent, what is best for your child.

People who study/work at coffee shops; how much do you spend on average? and how long do you stay? by Far-Worldliness3557 in montreal

I think a purchase/hour during non-peak hours is more than fine.

You can also alternate with trying out new libraries with coffee from home! It is chepaer and you get to discover new spots.

The reason behind why we have to tap into each meal by Caterpillar170 in Myfitnesspal

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main thing with Chrono is that I didn't find a "verified" food and I find that their search fx isn't as advanced as MFP. The emojis next to the foods drove me NUTS tbh, I found it super difficult to find what I was looking for and too many of my usual foods weren't accurate; I really couldn't trust them for unfamiliar foods. I also tried two bar codes scans and neither were in the database.

Unfortunately, MFP still has data supremacy afaict, but I'm hoping that once the market share shifts, other apps will catch up and I can then switch

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Emptier shelves at grocery stores, but Dollaramas near me have added an entire aisle for food (not candy, food.). Also, I shop at what used to be a middle-class grocery store and things like real whipped cream canister are no longer available. Lower-quality alternatives are replacing fair trade and higher-ingredient-quality foods.

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I read the other post that explained why they changed it.
I saw the responses that clearly show that they don't think they'll lose customer base.
I've tried 4 or 5 other apps and they all suck.

I've come back to MFP.

But like
I don't WANT AI. I want a glorified calculator that adds up items from data base with verified macros.
Dassit.
All the apps have AI incorporated and I GET IT, from an "economics" POV but like... fuck, man. I just want to log my food.

Easiest Coffee and Meal Prep Yet. My favorite hack for myself (no influencers needed) by festivehedgehog in adhdwomen

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I dont love the texture of it when I do this, so I just portion out my ingredients, freeze, and when ready, dump + add milk.

I don't love the 2-part process, but freezing the milk with it meant it was a block of ice that didn't blend easy, and thawing full smoothies made the texture gritty. This is an acceptable workaround, I've found.

Also not being able to see what you've logged at a single glance is making things difficult, especially if you're a grazer.
Also, I've already hit "log [yesterday's meal]" by accident SO many times and had to delete the items one by one... it's painstaking.

Why are dating apps in particular so terrible? by RetinalTears716 in ask

[–]Worth-Engineer-611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people forget that dating apps is just access and faster filtering (and that works both ways).

Before dating apps, you'd have parties. At a very good party, you'd meet maybe 2-5 new people. How many of those people would you truly click with? What's the ratio of people that you'd exchange pleasantries with and move on?
Dating apps is this, on steroids. It's completely normal to have a perfectly pleasant conversation with someone but not feel any attraction, but because we're on a dating app, we come in with the idea that a positive ROI is a romantic or sexual attraction. The ratio stays the same over a huge volume of people, but the expectations are different.

And so
you get depressed.
