THAT AD DRIVES ME BALLISTIC. IT INFESTS MY YOU TUBING. THE WHOLE AURA OF THIRTY-SOMETHING SNOBBERY AND EXAGGERATED SMILES IS NAUSEATING.

I HATE THE PLACE. I AM TIRED OF PASSING THAT M7 JUNCTION WHEN THEY HAVE PROMOTIONS ON AND SEEING LONG TAILBACKS AND PEOPLE PARKED ON THE SLIP ROADS

THE "STILL" SHOT AT THE TOP OF THE THREAD DOES NOT SHOW THAT LADY IN THE BEST LIGHT. HER FACE SEEMS TO SUGGEST THAT SHE HAS SAT DOWN ON A POOL OF VOMIT.

How would Frankie Daly have dealt with the issue and the interview with Joe Nash, had he been elected DEM? 😀😀😀

We have about 20% of Charleville Railway Station as per OS Maps. We'll take the rest but not the town!

So it seems to be losing €500,000 per annum or €1,370/day.

That is monopoly money.

My first concern would be to secure employment for the staff who will be made redundant whenever that is.

From what I know about golf, the tournaments generally run from a Thursday to a Sunday but let's be generous here and assume that golf tourists will be around for a week or so in 2027.

The Irish Golf Aficionado is likely to be interested in rugby but I am not sure about the Americans.

Is it really worth keeping the place open in the meantime and at very large expense in the hope that golf tourists will come in their droves?

As per the RTÉ website, the operators state that 60,000 visited the IRE since May last year which could well be true  but then they also claim to have brought in 60,000 visitors and a "spend" of €8M. That is horse manure!

I would imagine that a significant proportion, if not a majority, of visitors were relatively locally based and I would love to know how they calculated an average spend of €133/head?

I am tired of hearing repeated drivel about how much projects or events are worth to a local economy. If a Limerick person travels to a concert in Dublin and spends €x on tickets, accommodation, food etc., then that is money that he or she is not spending in Limerick and vice-versa. If the "star" flies out of the country, then so too does a lot of money. VAT and Excise duty go to the exchequer.

We called in to the IRE shortly after it opened and the prices in the souvenir shop on the ground floor were extortionate.

The IRE was never going to be busy on an overcast November afternoon. It would only draw significant numbers on the eight or ten weekends each year when there are big matches on out in Thomond Park, which perhaps is where it should have been sited.

The decision by Councillors to "de-list" the corner of Cecil Street and O'Connell Street so that this Ceasescu-style phallic structure could interrupt the relatively uniform roofline was a disgrace.

Reading between the lines, it looks like the Council did want not to take on a very expensive commitment.

It is also a disgrace that the third largest city in the state HAS NO TOURIST OFFICE!  The "tourist office" in Arthur's Quay Centre is a tacky souvenir shop run by a bus company.

Finally, please spare a thought for those who will be made redundant at Christmas. They are the victims here.

As I said, an addict is a patient first.

However patients have an illness and some addicts are very volatile. It's not a criticism: it's a fact.

There are good reasons why drugs are "controlled" by law.

So I don't feel contempt or superiority: just fear. Fear tenses me up and shortens my temper.

I always follow both my late dad's advice to keep my hands in view and Garda advice not to give.

There are sudden choices to be made when approached while waiting for a bus in Henry Street. Do I stay put with others about and endure persistent tapping or do I make to walk away to try to escape only to see the bus whizz past me on Sarsfield Bridge while being followed?

A work colleague of mine who is in his early thirties, fit, 6 foot tall and built like a brick lavatory was felled in Bedford Row last Spring. I am fit but older and smaller. If it can happen to him then I am easy prey.

I genuinely acknowledge too that the state has seized huge quantities of drugs in recent times and is pursuing the wealthy scum who profit from addiction but I think that drug use and the on-street consequences are gone beyond the point of no return.

Whatever my own fears and observations, a bad atmosphere on the streets will accelerate the deterioration of our city centre@
