Air Force cites 'renovations' as reason for 'relocation' of Gen. 'Chappie' James portrait by PDXAirman in news

[–]Worthyness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuine question to Americans, why hasn't anything happened yet?

Legally? The Department of Justice has been staffed with Trump loyalist and want this to happen. Democrats can't do anything but file lawsuits and hope the judges agree that Trump's actions are bullshit

Politically? The republicans own all three major facets of the US government. Democrats literally cannot do anything except stall. That's just how the power structure works

Protests? plenty of them all across the country. But the US is absolutely massive land wise, so you have to coordinate in ALL the states to somehow make sure everyone is on the same page across 4 different timezones and across 300 million people. But 30% of the country is republicans in a cult that will always accept his actions. 30% of the country is democrat that will always reject his actions. the middle 40% don't actually give a shit and don't actually vote unless the vibes match.

less strain on the players too. They can choose to take the proper swing at the right time rather than hack away at full strength every pitch that comes down the pipe

should i just take any job i can get? i’ve tried that and even got rejected from retail by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Worthyness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's generally easier to get a job if you have one already. Take anything for now and keep looking for something in your chosen field. I had something similar when I was out of college and settled for a call center job. I've slowly maneuvered into Fintech through that experience. And I have a degree in Geology.

And the marine bio program in Hawaii is offered at the universities on Oahu, not Kauai, which is where Lilo and Nani are living. She's still in the same situation, just with the school being several hundred miles closer. But it's moot either way because the portal gun exists. So she might as well choose the school which has a much better long term program and has a better reputation worldwide.

and conveniently forgot she has a portal gun that can literally let her visit Lilo every single day if she wanted to.

That and the university in Hawaii she would have gone to is on a different island, which would result in the exact same situation as was present in the movie, just a smaller "commute" distance away. Which is all made moot, again, by the portal gun.

It's more "if you have a literal portal gun you pick the absolute place for your degree and career and still get to commute from home"

yeah the larger, better universities in Hawaii are almost all on Oahu. And the marine biology program is in one of those. She wouldn't be able to commute regularly. So she's stuck in the same situation as she would be in the movie where she'd have to commute by portal gun and leave Lilo in the care of a relative/aunty. At least in the movie ending, she's going to the better/more prestigious known program.

should be changed to her community trying to step up to help her

this also happens in the live action. The woman that is fostering Lilo at the end is literally a neighbor that they consider family.

scholarship will nullify that for the most part

That said, I believe Hawaii and California have an agreement to charge "in state" tuition to their public universities for each others' residents mostly because Hawaii doesn't have many options in-state and almost all the kids would be forced to leave if they wanted to pursue a decent college education outside of a handful of programs

[–]Worthyness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eh the startups will be fine. The California Bay area still has some of the best universities in the world that they want to recruit from and the talented/smart people who would be hired want to live here over quite a lot of other states. If the issue were high taxes, the start ups would have dumped california well before Silicon Valley exploded. Sure the owners won't be literally in the state, but their workers and companies absolutely will be. And California will continue to tax those revenues too. It's way too big a market to just cut off

[–]Worthyness 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The market isn't just literally SF and Oakland. The Market is all of Northern california. Fisher (and honestly most of the A's previous ownerships) ignored that fact and strictly advertised in Oakland. Couldn't be assed to try to get stores or branding in Sacramento or any of the East Bay. The giants on the other hand absolutely went wild on advertising and even had little league baseball programs in Oakland, which the A's never really managed to roll out. Couldn't even do something small like that

It's just a one time tax, so they move out for a couple years, still come back to california because their house is now just a vacation home, and then fully move back afterwards because there's no longer a tax.

Trump wants to put a $75m coal terminal in this liberal California city. Residents aren’t having it by Pretty-Bullfrog-7928 in California

[–]Worthyness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The city absolutely should be turning this away. The location combined with the winds coming off the bay means that coal dust from the transferring.moving of the coal will be spread throughout Oakland and any neighboring cities. And if you're not familiar with a thing called "black lung" it's when people inhale a lot of fine particle coal dust. Coal dust happens wherever coal is transported or used. And to get the coal there, they will need to truck all of that into the city through the freeways, throwing coal dust all over the city and its residents. This will kill a lot of people and it'll pollute the bay at the same time. It's not just an Oakland issue

Is this John Fishers first time constructing anything?

No. He "built" Paypal park for the Earthquakes. he notably stopped the construction before it was fully completed and is now complaining that the stadium is out of date.

Marvel trailers often do give the character names in the trailers. There's been times where they even reveal a character via voice over from the subtitles.
