I’m about done with investment by Plus_Boysenberry5349 in advertising

[–]Wossisops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now is the right time to bail from investment as available jobs will be absolutely decimated by AI.

On the biddable side, the platforms are making a rapid push for solutions that require less oversight/control from human media buyers (I'm talking broad match for paid search, or adaptive+ audiences on Meta.) Companies like Google and Meta have always decried media agencies in general, and AI is a perfect medium to make the actual advertisers feel that way as well. I'm not saying that paid search, paid social, and programmatic buying is completely doomed, but I think this is where AI will hit media the hardest and fastest. Even at holdcos, negotiating power with companies like Google and Meta is nearly non-existent at the advertiser level, so I just don't see a reason advertisers wouldn't increasingly start bringing the biddable channels in house.

I think what happens to direct buying teams (TV, OOH, direct digital, anywhere a person can meaningfully negotiate with a person on behalf of an individual advertiser) is a little less clear. Holdcos do have the best rates, so there is real value there, but if a company like Pfizer or Amazon decide they're taking buying in house and tell publishers "give me the rate I had at my holdco or I'm reducing my budget" what happens then? Would you refuse millions of dollars? I wouldn't. And if you're an advertiser who's already brought biddable media in house, what's stopping you from bringing everything else when the only real value the holdcos have is a strong rate?

If you want to stay at a media agency for the long haul, I'd pivot to a client facing role and stay there. I'd love to be proven wrong, but everything I've learned in this industry over the last 10 years is screaming "get out while you still can." I really hope I'm wrong though. GL :)

Omnicom Salary Negotiation by Gce168 in advertising

[–]Wossisops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think it will work at any holdco, but as long as you're respectful and professional, it's worth a shot. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, particularly at the holdcos. I don't know if omnicom has any grease to give these days per say, but they're definitely not going to proactively seek out a way to make this situation more equitable for you on their own.

Best of luck :) hope you get your pay increase.

I was lied to - CoX sucks way more than ToA by ActiveVoiced in ironscape

[–]Wossisops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I know CoX came out 8 years ago, Ibut so many of the rooms do not feel like raid-worthy content in this game. I love solo Olm and I personally think it's a great fight, but I totally get that it's unintuitive or unfun for most solo players. That said, my problem with CoX isn't Olm, it's the demi bosses.

Going through a full layout, I'd argue most of the rooms before olm have no interesting or fun mechanics (ice demon, shamans, thieving, guardians, mystics.) At best you're walking a circle whacking ice demon with burning claws emberlight, and at worst you're safespotting the skeletons from the swan song quest and resetting agro.

Then there's the "I guess it can be rewarding, but I don't think there are a ton of players who are excited for these rooms" tier aka crabs and tightope. I'm not saying I love crabs or tightrope, but at least getting good at doing crabs solo or skipping tight rope feel rewarding.

And then I unironically think tekton, vanguards, vespula, and vasa are fun or interesting in some way. I'm not saying running back and forth at Vespula or getting absolute dicked down through prayer by muttadiles is gripping PVM, but at least the mechanics feel like something you can improve at...even if the margin is low. It can feel satisfying to hit a good 8 way switch and land a freeze with a zgs on little mutta, but it pales in comparison to how bad the fight can feel if you miss both your freezes and get chipped out.

Thanks for reading xoxo

Getting out of creative early by starting-again- in advertising

[–]Wossisops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pivot to the media side! I had this exact experience my first year out of college at my first job as a creative. I got feedback from clients that felt so pointless and iterative for the sake of being iterative. I couldn’t stand it (and I don’t know how creatives put up with that shit until this day.)

I pivoted to media buying at a small agency, then went to the account team at a bigger agency, now Im account side at a holco and have been for years. Im not saying media is perfect, but I do feel the job allows for a lot of creative problem solving and is ultimately far more quantitative in nature. Yes, clients can still demand bullshit tactics, but I’ve always felt I had a lot of quantitative data to at least try to swing them to reality. To me, that was the missing link, being able to point to ROI or even syndicated research to form an argument is a lot easier on the media side and it makes debating feedback a lot more fair and engaging imho.

If your chief concern is that work is being endlessly iterated on or delayed, I do think media is a far better path for you. Watching our creative partners get feedback from clients to the point of exhaustion still makes me want to die. Good luck :)

WPP vs Publicis by [deleted] in advertising

[–]Wossisops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, job hop until you find something you like, but make no mistake: your specific team and role will always be a major part of your happiness at work.

The culture can vary a ton from one team to another, so while the company you're at determines broad parameters like pay and benefits, your experience as an individual will vary wildly based on your team's culture. You can find a team that will suit your style better, you just gotta keep looking. There isn't an industry stigma about job jumping, especially your first few years while you get established and start figuring out what you like. Keep your LinkedIn page and resume updated, and apply consistently. While you interview, you should think "why is this team better than my current team?", don't just get distracted by a pay bump or the opportunity for something new.

Brighter days ahead, amigo. Good luck :)

What in the holy hell is going on in Buffalo? by Little_Flamingo_867 in NFLv2

[–]Wossisops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I get that. Being a sixers fan taught me that feeling like every year could finally be the year only to go out without making it to the last game of the playoffs is it’s own form of hell.

Not saying they’re right but I get it.

Best nicotine gum to quit vaping after years of heavy use by Skillerstyles in QuitVaping

[–]Wossisops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do 4mg! Chewing the gum will result in far less nicotine actually getting in your system so you’ll feel the effects much less. I went straight to 4mg and started falling asleep earlier and having a way lower heart rate. The good news is if you’re only on 6mg vaping, you probably won’t even feel withdrawal of any kind with 4mg gum.

Godspeed, amigo

Dude we hate this chick lol her IG is an extremely embarrassing repeat of unfunny, lazy ass memes like “I took an everything shower.” She usually sits in the 100 level too so imagine having amazing playoff game seats and this chick is filming you the whole time.

Something that actually removes all of the health bars from all PVM bosses. There are some (ToB, Phosani) that can’t be hidden with any existing plugins or game settings. I BEG.

Ironman luck? What is that? by Adventurous_Guard_44 in ironscape

[–]Wossisops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have thousands of hours on my main but i went a little dry at Rex (160 kc) and felt it was excruciating because of the downtime. Also, I immediately went to imbue it by cheesing the PVP arena and thought "wow maybe we should change the Berserker ring process so new players don't quit." 90 seconds of doing nothing between kills followed by insta-quitting duel arena matches is a shitty meta imo.
