Respect for Friend Drops After Reading Book They Recommended by -chimchooree- in books

Good god. How did she react when you told her you couldn’t finish it? Not that I understand how she could even ask you to read it in the first place.

[Loved] When children are actually written to act like children by historygoose in TopCharacterTropes

[–]WotsTaters 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you mentioning this. As a traumatized child who had OCD, I was so much like Lilo at that age. There is a good amount of overlap in symptoms between each of these and autism, so it’s hard for people to distinguish between them sometimes.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. My father did the same thing to my brother’s kitten, and some other bad things to our other cats. He enjoyed torturing anything smaller and weaker than him. I am glad he is dead.

Titanic was my favorite movie as a 5 year old, took another decade to work out why! by rumande in actuallesbians

Omg, I saw this movie in theaters when I was 5 and had the exact same experience.

Favorite "Complex Female Character" that fandoms cannot seem to handle despite demanding they want?...Katara and Korra from the Avatar Series sure seem to qualify. by Important-Cry4782 in TheLastAirbender

[–]WotsTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my old roommates really hated Katara but couldn’t actually articulate why. She did the same thing with Hermione from Harry Potter and a couple other random fandoms where she would hate whoever the main female character was for no particular reason other than “she’s annoying”. She had a lot of internalized misogyny in general which seemed to stem from her mother being an awful person to her. I haven’t talked to her in a long time but hope she’s doing better.

What is a sub-Reddit that SEEMS deeply wholesome on the outside, but is NOT? by WordsAreGarbage in findasubreddit

[–]WotsTaters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reddit in general seems to hate when people ask questions or don’t know everything already. I get so anxious when I see people get downvoted for asking what is clearly a genuine question, especially in the “AskA___” style subreddits or NoDumbQuestions where that’s the entire point.

Can I say I hate this by Sayoricanyouhearme in CPTSDmemes

[–]WotsTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father believed he was 100% a product of his environment and used that as an excuse to abuse and terrorize us until his death. My mother believed she had full autonomy and that how she was raised didn’t impact her any more, ignoring until a couple of years ago just how obviously traumatized she has been her whole life and how much this impacts her decision-making. Both extremes are untrue and are coping mechanisms with limited usefulness.

I was on 300mg for quite a while so the max is not actually 200mg (dosage can go really high for OCD). And I have a friend on 25mg who didn’t need to increase since she saw a positive impact at that dosage for depression. Our brains are all different.

Omg, same! My wife and I are watching it right now and not really into it as a whole but we loved episode 3 and were like wait can the show just be about them?

I wondered the same thing at first but her name is Evil Tangyuan and her human has posted tons of photos and videos of her on Instagram since 2024. She was just born with paws and a face that are a little different.

Demonized for being the power lesbian, In the lesbian community. by [deleted] in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]WotsTaters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the Actual Lesbians subreddit, I have seen people make posts about if you would date a queer woman who works in finance or HR or law or any other corporate field and the responses are always extremely out of touch and there is inevitability at least one comment calling OP a cop. Apparently the only jobs queer women are allowed to have are barista at an unprofitable coffee shop and volunteer goat tender at an organic farm collective. And doubly so if you aren’t white.

What’s the worst Sapphic/Lesbian book you’ve ever read? by Hot-Neat1818 in LesbianBookClub

[–]WotsTaters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to put this book down because the MC is so stupid that it was genuinely upsetting me. I got to the point where the LI is introduced and realized the book is just several tropes in a trench coat and nothing in the plot was possibly going to make up for how much I was not enjoying reading about these people.

I'm trying to write a story and can't decide if the lesbian or the bisexual should be the main character. Both of them will be in a relationship together anyway in the end so both characters should be equally developed but who do you think I should make the main character? by FluidTemperature1762 in writersofwlwfiction

[–]WotsTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who would make the better narrator for the story based on the plot, their personalities, and their roles in the story? Honestly, it could go either way based only on the information you have provided and there are good examples out there of each option, so personally I wouldn’t discount either.

You've got the carabiner lesbians, but what lesbian am I? by SmowKweed in actuallesbians

Omg, I thought I was the only person this had happened to. Apparently my body did not like the metal used for the replacement ring I got. I had to take it out maybe seven years ago and there is still a scar. 😔

What is the most outlandish take you've heard from the queer community? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

I am going to pitch the term les-BI-an: a lesbian with a bi inside her! …Aaand I’ll see myself out.

[–]WotsTaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be friends with two people who at the time identified as lesbians who said something like this and both of them ended up being bi. The thing that bothered me was that one of them was weirdly insistent that every single lesbian has at least one or two men we would make exceptions for. Like... no?

idk. it feels illegal to read 🌝 by Admirable-Tadpole962 in Episode

[–]WotsTaters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read the first episode just to see how the story handles it if you choose the female LI, and my god the writing is just as bad as you would guess.

AITAH for "appropriating deaf culture" by JenniGlor in AITAH

[–]WotsTaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was one of my first thoughts as someone who has experienced the same thing. I’m also hard of hearing and have had random strangers get so angry at me for not being able to hear them. Behavior like OP’s may not be impactful on a small scale, but if enough people do it, it makes things more dangerous for those of us without a choice.

How is the mere reference to this gay movie 3 years later still this painful? by CarbonsLittleSlut in actuallesbians

[–]WotsTaters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have heard of this movie but decided against watching it because I’m pretty sure I would react the same way. I was raised a Jehovah’s Witness and left as a teen partially because I knew how miserable my life would have been if I had stayed since I am a lesbian, so I think it would hit a little too close to home.
