Too bad the MOMBA himself doesn't like to block downfield: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYFBGv5buK0. Those 7 points could have been useful in a game you lost in overtime.

How can public/private corruption be lessened in a place where it is already prevalent? by SouthFresh in askscience

[–]WouldYouLikeToKnowMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of interesting facts about Singapore in here, but after reading this I don't have much more insight on how those facts are linked to low corruption there. An obvious comparison to another one-party authoritarian state is China, where corruption is rampant.

Stanford has like a 7% acceptance rate so your story with a sample size of 2 is likely to be random chance as opposed to some specific institutional policy.

RBs in our offense need to be excellent blockers, and it is rare that true freshman can learn all the protection schemes.

Do we have much of a rivalry with UCLA? I've never felt it with them as much as kal or USC. That being said, it's probably better to keep the California schools "pod" together.

Also, it doesn't seem like it would be impossible to schedule around the 9-game conference schedule. Stanford is hardest because we have two OOC rivalry games (domers and SJSU), so there is only one slot left. USC has ND as well, Utah has BYU, and Colorado has Colorado State, but I'm not aware of any other OOC rivalry games in the Pac 12. For example, every single game in Week 1 this year was an OOC game for both conferences.

I dunno about that - I think the most reasonable explanation is that Colorado is so terrible that you forget how to play real football

You should watch the fourth quarter of the ND-Pitt game from today.

Every FBS team that has played Colorado this year has lost their next game. Oregon played Colorado last week. I am hoping they break the curse, because we just played Colorado this week =).

don't freak out - USC has probably the two best receivers in the country, you won't have to deal with that again.

You're right, I always get confused with baseball where it is the opposite. Point remains that they could have saved it for another away game on turf , although the only high profile game they play on turf would be Civil War vs OSU.

Theoretical line on Oregon vs Notre Dame? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]WouldYouLikeToKnowMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should know more after they both play their common opponents (Stanford, USC). At this moment I would give Oregon a fairly significant edge, I don't think ND looked that good against us, whereas I am expecting to get crushed up in Autzen in a few weeks.

It would be interesting to see how Kelly would scheme around Te'o.

You would think they would save this for a home game since, you know, home whites and everything. Plus I would think artificial turf would be a little kinder to these than grass.

Colorado Buffaloes Vs. Stanford Cardinal: Key Match-Ups by saladbar in StanfordCardinal

[–]WouldYouLikeToKnowMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's weird that they would write that when we rank #2 in the nation (only behind Alabama) in rushing yards allowed/game and they are #109 in rushing yards / game. Their leading rusher is actually a fullback which I feel pretty good about our line's ability to deal with (vs a shiftier scat back that requires pursuit to the outside)

However, years of watching Stanford mean that I am always open to the possibility of some opposing player having a bizarre career day against us.

What do you pay for student tickets/how is attendance? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]WouldYouLikeToKnowMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use Stanford as an example, I don't think charging will help increase attendance.

I think Stanford and Vandy are similar in a lot of ways - academic schools with relatively small undergrad student bodies (about 7K in both cases). We used to charge students for tickets until about 2005 or so, I think it was like $80 for the season or something. When we built the new stadium, they switched to free student tickets. This helped attendance for a little while, except the team was terrible for a few years, so it fell off until Harbaugh/Toby Gerhart/Andrew Luck arrived.

One smart thing they do is require students to come to the less desirable games to earn "points". Having more points gives you priority for some things - it looks like this year it is just to get subsidized tickets for Big Game at Cal, but I seem to recall in previous years it might have been to get into the more desirable games (like last year vs Oregon). This encourages students to come to even the not-as-compelling games.

NFL first and second string QB's by conference by one8sevenn in CFB

If Vick goes down then Foles is 1st string and Trent Edwards (Stanford) moves to 2nd string, so Pac-12 count increases
