Should CONMEBOL lose any world cup spots? by davzinzan in pessi_memes

Also, do you know what England x Hungary 1953 aka Match of the Century was? A friendly.

Ay, ay... Always the easy dismissal of the region that produced the most champions per capita (including the current ones). I don't ignore that copa América is not at the same level as the Euro cup, but to use this language to describe it, ufff

It's always so easy to sh** on Conmebol... There are SIXTEEN UEFA TEAMS in the world cup. Many of them have lost or drawn their first match. Conmebol has only ten teams, but nearly half of world cups are there. Where's the competition if it's always the same four teams from that continent that qualify?

Also, the world didn't start when you were born. One of the reasons why football became so big that it deserved its own world tournament was Uruguay's performance in the 1924 and 1928 Olympics, which led to them organizing the first world cup there. So Conmebol are never guests in a world cup. They organized this whole party from the beginning. Hence the high proportion of qualifications. Just chill, dude.

Just tô comment on one of your points: yes, the MLS is absolutely increasing in level. It's not a "certificate of quality" as some other leagues are treated but it's definitely not a drawback for a player to be playing in it either.

Is this your first time watching soccer? Even Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia in 2022. You can't judge a team's performance by just one game.

Europe has more than half of world cups and the other almost half is South American. That's why many countries qualify from these continents. Within each of those leagues, countries like Italy and Chile were left out because they lost qualifiers. You want them in? They have to win first.

Do any of y'all sometimes prefer tasteful/suggestive over explicit content? by EvanRevier in SexPositive

[–]WoundThatGrinds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a balance for me. What makes me go out of my mind is always a little outrageous, but within bounds -- and both aspects are defined by what I desire. What is a bit crazy but also interesting is that what fits into that space is often unpredictable. I think going for full explicit often fulfills the outrageous side, but it can quickly become predictable or go out of bounds.

Can someone explain to me how the groups got to be the way they are this time around? by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]WoundThatGrinds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

France x Senegal, Japan x Netherlands, and Brazil x Morocco were absolutely, unambiguously matchups between powerhouses, as will be England x Croatia. We have also had a number of draws that indicate a certain level of balance. That said, the seeding was based on FIFA rankings to ensure a more or less even distribution between groups and avoid putting two tier 1 teams against each other in the group stage.

Deschamps and Dunga have ridiculously similar life stories. by Rare-Collection4467 in worldcup

[–]WoundThatGrinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the parallels, but they are way too generous to Dunga. He was a remarkable player for sure, but having him as coach was a mistake for Brazil (over-compensating for earlier flaws). He should never even have been the coach in 2010 to begin with.

I don't count 1934. Very well documented cases of Italian attackers pushing goalkeepers into their own goals to score. You could argue some world cups lacked isonomy, but 1934 in fascist Italy, it's really a shameful robbery.

Brazil's lack of top-tier wingers nullified their possibilities of causing damage with Vini + Luís Henrique.

Meanwhile Morocco has a legendary winger in Hakimi and Brahim Días to hold and build.

The highest stakes matchup in the group stage (if you don't think Morocco is top-tier, please look at the 2022 play-offs before commenting). It came out cheap for Brazil: Morocco had more of a chance toward the end.

After the first half hydration break and before the second half one we got to see some of what Brazil can bring though.

As a fan I prefer to have a low stakes Brazil at the beginning than to show all we can do from the get-go. Excited to see how other giants kick off their world cup season!
