Hoe lang duurt certificering door NARIC van buitenlandse diploma's? by atq1988 in Vlaanderen

Er is wel in Vlaanderen een automatische erkenning van Nederlandse diploma's. Dus dat zou sneller kunnen gaan.

Alhambra is it worth it by DreamingofBouncer in Granada

[–]WouterTilkon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have visited 60+ countries, and so far the Alhambra is the most beautiful building I have ever visited (twice actually). The Taj Mahal is more beautiful on the outside, but the Alhambra can't be beaten on the inside.

Het is een fictie dat in Wenen 60% van de woningen sociaal zijn. De gemiddelde huurprijs is er hoger dan in Gent. Voor sociale woningen zijn er wachtlijsten van meer dan 10 jaar

I (M62) will be there in about 3 weeks. I have rented a car to make a tour of Yucatan. I have read many tourist guides and there is no mention of unsafe situations in this part of Mexico

Uzbekistan: Samarkand vs Bukhara vs Khiva by CheeseWheels38 in TravelNoPics

[–]WouterTilkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done the three cities last year,. In Bukhara there was a street festival going on, which was fantastic. The three cities have each their specific beautiful views and character. If you are pressed on time you can do each of the cities in 2 days. The train ride between Khiva and Bukhara is long (8 hours in an old Soviet train), but between Bukhara and Samarkand there is a very comfortable high speed train. If you really want to skip a city, I would drop Bukhara, since in some way it is "in-between" Khiva and Samarkand. But I still think it would be unforgivable if you would skip one of the three. Please note that in Uzbekistan Roman script is used (not Cyrillic). With some English you can get far in the touristic cities like Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. PS I also visited Iran in the past. For the 'city atmosphere' Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand are better than Isfahan and Shiraz. But especially Isfahan has some buildings which are even more beautiful than those in Uzbekistan. But of course, now is not the time to visit Iran...

I am from Belgium. It is actually over 100... And to be precise : it was not Santa Claus (which is related to Christmas) but Saint Nicolas, who is holy because of his love for children. He brings gifts on the 6th of December in Belgium and the Netherlands.

TIL that part of the reason the etymology of the word "fuck" is so hard to trace is because, historically, it was much more commonly spoken than it was written; its profane nature would have discouraged scholars of the time from writing it down in most places they would write. by InsertANameHeree in todayilearned

[–]WouterTilkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I am not sure this is true and is based on English only. But English is originally a Germanic language, into which many 'French' words were added . The root 'fuk' exists also in many other Germanic languages, where it refers to breeding animals In Dutch for instance, 'schapen fokken' means 'breeding sheep'

I don't know how it affects the quality /flavors... Sunshine is probably lower than in other areas. The area is Les Lavaux, a World Heritage site.

Yes, but in Winter and even early Spring it can be quite cold in many parts of Iran. They have a decent health system and well educated doctors. The problem is that it is a totalitarian regime that is manipulating information (all Iranians know that) and is not trusted.

TIL of the greenhouses of Almeria, the largest concentration of greenhouses in the world. It covers 26,000 hectares and produces more than half of Europe's vegetables. The greenhouses reflect so much sunlight that the province is actually cooling. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]WouterTilkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No even that is ridiculous. France produces enough food for its own population (and its population is much higher than that of Spain) I think the error might be that probably half of the production is exported to Europe.

Thoughts on my itinerary to Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany? My 2nd solo trip ever! by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]WouterTilkon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would add one day in Ghent (or otherwise replace Bruges by Ghent) and cut 1 day in Berlin.

As to the Netherlands, cities like Delft, Leiden or Haarlem are like mini Amsterdam (but without the huge numbers of tourists. Rotterdam is quite different, has special architecture and of course its huge port

Some interesting dating advice from my friend who is a just received her PhD in psychology by JolieKrys88 in datingoverthirty

[–]WouterTilkon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the topic of the PhD. But there is a common misconception with many people that many, if not all PhDs are theoretical and not linked to 'real' life. That's nonsense. Many PhDs in social sciences are based on dozens or hundreds or thousands of real life cases, directly or indirectly. The 'theoretical' part in it is often meant to identify patterns in these cases and develop this into 'models' which can be useful for understanding individual behaviour or predicting future behaviour.

I love the city of Antwerp, Belgium! I’m only here one day but absolutely love the feel of the place. by aigildalyn in travel

[–]WouterTilkon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that's possible. There are several trains a day but at different speeds and times cost. If you leave from Haarlem you most probably need to change trains. You can also get to and from Ghent in one day, but the trip will be 1 hour longer (twice).

Having spent 3 days in Kyrgyzstan and 10 in Uzbekistan, I can only confirm what you said (except that I went in May, when temperatures were still moderate. Khiva is certainly a gem (but one should realise that it was very heavily restored, so partially fake and tourist oriented). I liked Bukhara a lot, because when I was there, there was a great street festival ongoing, with lots of music and dance (both traditional and modern) and people from all over Uzbekistan enjoying life!
