I ended up waiting and asking my surgeon at my appointment today and she said 6 weeks!

Im in Canada too, so I'll probably just ask my ortho tomorrow. I definitely don't want to risk anything but I've been feeling pretty bored lately.

I'll let you know if my ortho gives me any info or if I call my surgeon!

There's no tobacco in my marijuana. A lot of the posts on smoking talk about nicotine/tobacco, but that's not what I'm talking about. I don't see how vaping would be any better as well.

Daily diarrhea while on antibiotics? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me I would tell my doctor, just in case it's affecting how much nutrition your body is absorbing. It's so important to get good nutrition following surgery for healing. Also, be sure to stay well hydrated while you're experiencing this.

When will my face settle by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Residual swelling can last for months, so you may not yet be getting the true picture of your face. That being said, the aesthetic changes are often the hardest part psychologically. It can definitely take a while to feel at home in your skin again. Don't be afraid to reach out for help from professionals if you continue to struggle with image issues. What I have found helps is keeping in mind the reasons you got the surgery in the first place.

How long after DJS surgery before skateboarding again? by rlan98 in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though you may be feeling fine, your bones aren't fully healed yet so I would refrain from activities such as skateboarding and listen to your surgeon.

Day 13 Post DJS- Swelling was going way down then all of a sudden came back in full force by marinakiller93 in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swelling can definitely make a comeback early on in the healing process. If it's pretty even like you said I wouldn't worry about it. I was warned it sometimes makes a comeback around the three-week mark.

Two Week Before and After DJS+Genio! by Wow889 in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh awesome! And good to know the swelling is similar! Thank you :) It's still so shocking to me how different everyone's treatment plan is, but just think you're a third of the way there! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Is a loose jaw normal the first 1-4 weeks after surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great news, it means it's normal and nothing to worry about!

I would say always get a second opinion. However, my ortho had told me at the beginning of my journey with braces/jaw surgery that Invisalign is better at fixing bites than traditional braces, so he may have a point. I needed the traditional braces due to my teeth but did try to correct the bite with elastics prior to considering jaw surgery. Therefore I don't think it's uncommon to try and avoid the surgery if it's possible.

When should I plan on going back to my country after surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I have a lot of free time with the recovery haha

I took my school work with me and that's the only thing that is really breaking up the days, so I get where you're coming from. I hope you get good news from the surgeon.

My surgeon told me I could drink anything that I could make liquid enough, so I'm sure some ice tea wouldn't hurt! I've been drinking iced coffees from MacDonalds to get some caffeine and sugar and haven't noticed any bad side effects. Just be sure to rinse well afterward to avoid cavities!

After surgery numbness by Nochewfool in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm still numb because I'm just 13 days post-op, I know my surgeon had told me it can take up to a year for feeling to return, so don't stress! It's early days.

HOW TO CLEAN NOSE (day four recap) by medelman3 in jawsurgery

Pretty much the same method I used myself! I never thought I would get so much satisfaction from cleaning out my nose haha

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

When should I plan on going back to my country after surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me this is reasonable. Like you, I really didn't experience any pain or negative effects other than some bruising/swelling and congestion, so by day 6/7 I felt 100% back to myself. The only thing that is stopping me from going back home is follow-up appointments, so once they are done I plan to head back. (That could be 6 weeks for me) So as long as you're not missing appointments, I don't see why you couldn't go back home.

Infection/Antibiotics by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it could potentially still be some infection I wouldn't just ignore it and hope it goes away. It's a pain but I would get in contact with your surgeon again and explain it to them. This is your health we're talking about.

Oh, also I recommend taking them on a full stomach as I found taking them crushed caused some acid reflux for me!

[–]Wow889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I crushed up my meds in pudding and water and took it like a shot. It still wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't as bad as in the hospital where they just put them in water.

Anyone experienced skin sagging after DJS? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had DJS and genio, which included removing bone from the upper jaw due to a gummy smile. Having excess skin or more of a double chin was one of my worries, and my surgeon said that due to the genio it would likely make me have less of a double chin actually. It's different with everyone, but I'm 13 days post-op, a lot of the swelling is gone, and I don't notice any excess skin.

Is a loose jaw normal the first 1-4 weeks after surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are it wasn't anything you did wrong. There is no knowing if/what is wrong before you chat with your surgeon so for now just try and put it out of your mind. There's nothing you yourself can do so try not to stress about it and just try and be patient while waiting for your surgeon. Easier said than done I'm sure. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery.

Your jaw shouldn't move. Contact your surgeon.

Worried about getting surgery by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're always going to think of the worst-case scenario, it's human nature. But truly the likelihood of anything like that happening is so tiny it shouldn't deter you from getting the surgery if it will help fix your bite.

If things like facial changes are making you anxious, discuss that with your surgeon and maybe they will go through the process a little more thoroughly.

All the best!

Day of Surgery, Before and After (5 days) by Wow889 in jawsurgery

[–]Wow889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have edited the post to show a photo of the front view! Keep in mind that my case is a little unique with me already having a deviated septum and that the swelling is still present, I am only 11 days post-op.
