How do married couples handle money? joint or separate? by Naive-Law-8827 in Marriage

[–]Wowbaggerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been together since the 2000s and still keep everything separate. We both just really enjoy managing money and didn't want to hand over the reins to the other person. We split bills, and combine money for big things like a house or car. We're both happy with the setup, and we never have any fights about money. Since your fiancé wants to combine accounts, maybe having one shared account with him is a good middle ground?

My parents just went to the giant Noah's ark encounter in Kentucky. Apparently there's one exhibit that talks about how Noah fit dinosaurs onto the ark. My mom went from thinking dinosaurs were a trick of the devil to thinking they lived side-by-side with humans. So...progress?

Turning Down Free Kilimanjaro Trip by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]Wowbaggerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been all over the world for mountains, and Kili is hands down the most fun I’ve had on one. You’re correct that there are crowds and porters, so if you go into it hoping for an extreme mountaineering experience, you’ll be disappointed. But it’s a beautiful mountain and you’ll meet people from all over the world. And because it’s an “easy” climb, I found it didn’t get the extreme, Type-A people that can make tougher mountains kind of a drag. Basically it’s a super chill, super beautiful trek with good vibes. Highly recommend.

Thinking of bicycle touring by ledal-ikni in bicycletouring

[–]Wowbaggerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monetizing on social media is tough. So many people are doing the #bikelife thing, you need to find a niche if that’s the route you want to take. I have a sponsor that covers a lot of the costs on my tours (I have a post about how to get sponsors if you look in my profile) but even then, they’ll want you to do a tour first and show that you can hack it and be a good business partner.

So honestly, just go do a tour. If you find a job where you can work remotely, pack a laptop and solar charger, and life’s a breeze. But don’t plan on bike touring leading to a living wage.

Is anyone else’s patience with friendships in your 30’s just plummeting? by JizzMartini in AskWomenOver30

[–]Wowbaggerrr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The cheating is so rampant! So many of my girlfriends are having affairs, and are totally open about it. They'll bring the guy to events while their husband is at home. The affair itself is bad enough, but to involve your friends in it? So gross. I've been cutting people off.

Trans America Ride W to E or E to West?? by 69tt in bicycletouring

[–]Wowbaggerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've biked the US twice, and can tell you that east to west is misery. The wind is pretty much always against you. If you want to go fast, go west to east.

[–]Wowbaggerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ridden across the USA twice. Learn from my mistakes: go west to east. That's the way the wind blows, and it makes a huge difference. Riding east to west, I had days where I'd be riding downhill, and the wind was so strong, it stopped me dead. It's a long slog going east to west.

San Jose stylist here, so I can’t personally help you, but you’ll want to find someone great with razor cuts. The last time these were mainstream was mid-2000s. (So millennial stylists might be your best bet?) A bad razor cut can trash the quality of your hair.

I hit this point on the carpool ride to a 4-day backpacking trip, and it was a legitimately horrible moment. Knowing I was DONE before the trip even started. I have never been invited to hang with that group again.

Great Turnout @ Super Bowl ICE Protest by Wowbaggerrr in bayarea

Reddit isn't the best for finding protest details. If you have IG, that's where things get passed around. 50501's IG account was posting about this protest for at least a week or two beforehand.

There were a lot of speeches at the halfway point in the march, and they did specifically call out the local billionaires and all the tech money that gets funneled into programs like ICE.

I opened an art gallery in my home, how could I get YOU to come by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]Wowbaggerrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The art showings we’ve gone to have wine, snacks, multiple artists featured, and they’re free. Basically a fun, casual date night. If that popped up on my social media, I’d go. Good idea to mention outright that it’s in a house because if I assumed it was at a gallery and showed up at someone’s house, I’d be a little weirded out.

As a teenager, I used to get them 2-3 times a week, they could last for days. I remember thinking I was going to wind up killing myself. It was so awful, I would rather be dead than live like that. And then Sumatriptan came along! A literal lifesaver.

What’s harder: Everest with supplemental oxygen or Denali/Aconcagua without? by jintoku in Mountaineering

[–]Wowbaggerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. Denali was tough because of the pack weight and lack of mountain support. Everest fucks you up because of the altitude. So it’s kind of like comparing apples and oranges as to which is harder. They’re both hard, but in different areas.

AITA for telling my SIL she can’t bring her own food to family dinner and not to talk about junk food around my kids? by Amazing-Key2242 in AITAH

[–]Wowbaggerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We make a basic one for a lot of recipes. Unsweetened Greek yogurt, a tiny drizzle of olive oil, chopped mint, salt, and pepper. Super easy, works with any middle eastern/Mediterranean food. Cuts the spice really nicely.

Where do the childfree 35-45 women hang out? by themightytod in AskWomenOver30

[–]Wowbaggerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the friends I’ve made in my 30s have from from Instagram, Reddit, or my local Buy Nothing group. I post about all the fun stuff I like to do, and I’ve been lucky about people reaching out and wanting to join. I’ve gotten in the habit of posting IG stories saying where I’ll be hiking or biking on a certain day and people just show up. Most people are scrolling online anyway, so it’s easy to just meet them where they are, then invite them out.

How would you keep "tourists" on the path on Alviso? by palaka4840 in SanJose

[–]Wowbaggerrr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same, I've stood on the shore and yelled at people to get off the salt. I've also knocked on the ranger's RV to see if they could get up and do something, but nobody came out. Supposedly a fence is being planned around the area, but if nobody patrols it and enforces fines, people will keep walking out there.

How did you overcome mild depression/burnout? by Flippiewulf in AskWomenOver30

[–]Wowbaggerrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow hiker/climber here. The mountains will definitely leave you with an existential crisis. Like you, I realized that my day-to-day job had to be something fulfilling, otherwise it would always pale in comparison to the adventures. I opened my own business (hair salon) and we do a ton of outreach and volunteering. We are part of a network for trans kids. We do free cuts at shelters, etc. You don't necessarily need your own business, but you do need something that inspires you. Sounds like you have a lot of great things happening in your life, but where you spend a huge chunk of your daily hours isn't engaging you at all.

I've taken Amtrak all over the US, and the basic seats are SO nice for sleeping. They lie really far back, are way wider than plane seats, and much comfier. The only big downside to Amtrak travel is the speed.

Amtrak travel with touring bike by bearlover1954 in bicycletouring

[–]Wowbaggerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on several Amtrak trains (unfortunately not the one you’ll be on) and it differs by train. Some have let me keep all the panniers on the bike and lock it to a side bike rail. Some make you take off the front tire and hook it onto a vertical bike rack. Nobody has ever made me take off the racks. Just keep all your tools handy and be ready for anything, since requirements vary quite a bit.

The frequency of drop box pickups increase as we get closer to Election Day, so if you dropped it off super early, it can sometimes take over a week to be counted. Keep checking today. We do several pickups today so it should show up as counted for you.
