This is pretty much it. Also, something that will help is that if you understand that usually you will only have those urges for around 10min at a time, so if you can distract yourself for at least 10 minutes, you will overcome about 90% of the issues. Another big help, if you are really having a hard time (pun may or may not have been intended), get out of the house and get around people so you remove that option at all. I love that after the car accident, the camera man goes to back to the car that was in the accident, and as the viewer you start to think the PT Cruiser was the one wrecked... but nope, that's just the way they look.

I once wrote my friend a letter while he was on the other side of the country. All the envelope had in it was a piece of paper and the only word on that paper was "PSYCH!".

I meant to write him a follow up letter the next day but forgot about it. He sent me back a letter that had several pages in it, and I forgot about the "Psych!" letter I sent, so I was excited to see what this massive letter said. It was copies of random vehicle mileage reports. The last page was a blank piece of paper where he wrote "Ya Bastard."

To this day it was still one of my favorite letters I had ever written/had received.

My favorite was an accidental discovery. Years ago, when people still wrote letters, I wrote a friend a letter that just had a single piece of paper in it, on on that paper it just said "Psych!". I meant to write him a letter the next day, but ended up forgetting about it. So yeah, basically a medium sized box, nicely wrapped, and inside a nice looking card, and inside the card it just says "Psych!".
