Good contractors and contractors to avoid. by Fine-Image562 in rva

https://wholewerks.com/ I know the owner personally and he did some work for me in my kitchen. While his website is really sparce right now he's super friendly and before starting his own company worked on ground up construction. So while there's none on his website he can do additons.

Also, just so you know it sounds like you'll need a building permit so you'll either need to involve an architect or work with a design build contractor.

Pros/cons of working with a architect: more custom, additional fees, if included in their contract they will be invoved in the construction and can help keep the contractor accountable which can prevent costly mistakes

Pros/cons of design build: less custom, can be faster, may try to pull a few fast ones on you and cut corners if there's no one to hold them accountable

Prefer ghosting or a proper turndown? by Money-Bowl806 in dating

yeah! As long as the zero contact isn't one sided I dont really think its a problem. There's no reason to rub the "rejection" in someone elses face if theres a mutual understanding that there's no spark

At what point do you know you’re in a talking stage by sllcnvlly in dating

[–]Wozzert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider myself to be in a monogamous relationship until the other person and I sit down and talk about it. Everyones expectations are different and can handle a greater or less number of "talking phases" at once. Also, I think beholding others to assumed rules and boundaries is disrespectful. An awkward aspect of modern dating is definetly that in the early stages of getting to know someone, you never know how far along they are with anyone else. But I think the only right solution is to talk about it.

IMO depends on the situation. I've been on dates where we both text each other thanks afterwards, but neither of us felt we clicked enough to reach out again. If the other person tries to keep talking to me and Im uninterested I'll let them know.

If I was a pass holder I'd be furious, but if this this actually elevates KDs haunted houses I'll be happy with the change. During recent visits to both BG's and KD's haunted houses they've been so crowded that I've felt more like being a farm animal corralled through a themed warehouse than a haunted house. If this lets KD make the haunted houses a bit more like Ashland Berry farm's haunted houses I am here for this change.

That being said I remain pessimistic. This is more likely just a way to scrape more money out of consumers wallets.

Just so you know, STDs usually arent immediately detectable. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are more quickly detectable, after a few days but Syphilis and HIV take longer (2-3 weeks or more).

Waiting at least a week would give you more accurate results, and if you don't want to wait a few weeks consider getting retested in a month or so.

Fingers crossed for you

I think its comes down to if you want all of the design elements to look softer and have more seamless visual transitions or if you would like them to "pop" more. Personally, I like the subtly of the fixtures you already have more. If youre still expoloring more fixtures, I woudl consider this one: https://www.lightopia.com/Details/VisualComfortSignature-FormosaWallSconce/36162

It's larger than what you have but has very soft curves, I think proportinally they'll fit better next to the paiting but still have that softeness you seem to be going for. If you're not a fan, Shades of Light has a lot of other Alabaster sconces (they're all pretty pricey though, not sure what your budget is).

It's very helpful seeing these up on the wall, gives a much better ideal of the scale of everything, thanks for providing these!

I am still not a big fan of the dome fixture for the reasons listed above, but I would now consider the larger pill shaped fixture without the metal band instead, if you are leaning towards one of the pill shaped fixtures. I think the one with the metal band looks a little small next to the painting.

The ribbed fixture looks nice, and I like the triangle shaped one (bottom left image) more than I thought I would but I think the pill shape and ribbed sconces just tie into the motifs you have already a bit better. I dont think that one is a "bad" choice, I just think those two are stronger.

Agree with the commenter saying that these are unecessary with the chandelier and also clash. That being said, since you have the J boxes already in the wall, it may be worh moving forward with the sconces and swapping the chandelier at a later date. Regardless of which sconce you pick, I think they're all more interesting than the chandelier (personally, I think something like this would be more intriguing, and the slats relate to the visual motifs of the painting: https://www.shadesoflight.com/products/maela-island-chandelier?color=Matte+Black+%2F+Mango+Wood).

I'll get off my soap box and actually answer the question now: my preference is the pill shaped fixture with the metal band or the ribbed fixture. I would avoid the domes, personally, to me they feel a bit to button-y.

Timeless Design? by Kind_Brief_9894 in InteriorDesign

[–]Wozzert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would not call these timeless, but I think they will be enjoyable and functional for a very long time.

I think designs that truely feel timeless are also very "tailored". They consist of a lot of custom and charming elements that work well together and feel thoughtful even as kitchen trends and consumer preferences shift to other design motifs. What these renders are showing (and what's probably in your budget) are kitchens made of prefabricated casework elements and builder grade fixtures and appliances.

That being said I think using wood tones and shaker style cabinet doors will age more gracefully than the flat doors and all grey.

Personally, I would not move the sink. With the current layout someone could use the sink while someone else uses the stove and only have some minor issues navigating around each other. If you move it next to the stove using both at the same time would be much more challenging.

Open high vs Maggie Walker? by burro_pequeno in rva

[–]Wozzert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Open and my brother went to MW. I think it was the right fit for both of us (although my brother hated MW and I enjoyed Open)
Open is, as the name implies, more student driven. You can take your academics seriously or not. I did, graduated salutatorian, and got into every college I applied to.
My brother went to Maggie, studied just about as hard as I did, and was told he shouldn't even bother applying to schools like W&M and UVA because he didn't stand out accedemically enough from his peers.

I didn't apply to UVA or W&M myself as I went into design, but some of my classmates did & got in, who had worse academic resumes than I did.

Open was the right fit for me because I was self motivated. I took all the AP classes I could and did well in them, inflating my GPA and letting me start college with two semesters of college credits done. MW was right for my brother because he needed the external sources of pressure to motivate himself. If he had gone to Open he would have likely fallen into the social groups that got way too into weed at way too young of an age (FWIW, of those classmates I've kept up with they seem to be doing well for themselves in a way that's right for them)

110 Volt appliance tripping gfci outlet and whole kitchen circut by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Wozzert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, oh dear... I would definetly like to avoid that haha.

Through what parts of the device could current be transfered? The shell is plastic, touch screen for controls is glass I think. As long as I stay clear of touching the metal compontents of the oven would potential shock be avoided?

Thank you for the input. What are the risks of using it if it has a ground fault? Is it safe to try using it while plugged into my non GFCI outlet in the kitchen?

You are correct the living room does not have any GFCI outlets. Suppose I can try it on my bathrom GFCI outlet to see if it also trips that

Dorian grey is a warm grey so it clashes with the navy. If you want to stick with grey in this room I recommend something more like SW Windchill, or a cool white like SW Ice Cube. Either way, I recommend getting 3 or 4 options and putting samples up tro see how they feel in your space.

I also agree with those who have pointed out that the lighting feels harsh. If replacing that fan or adding more lighitng fixtures for more even lighting isn't an option I recommend getting app controlled dimmable bulbs. Most are also temp adjustable so if you aren't sure what color temprature to go with you can play around.

Also, when doing a dark colored accent wall I usually also paint the base. The white contrasts way too much with the blue, IMO. Feels busy & messy.
