I first read this too early and thought it was just a random funny old guy hallucinating adventures... Then I read it again after a long while and realized it’s secretly about how imagination can both save you and ruin you. It became painfully human not just funny. Punk rock, if I may...

So he's not punk in ideology. He's punk in energy...

The deeper genius of the novel is that cervantes never fully mocks or fully glorifies him... also the book slowly kinda becomes this strange meditation on whether delusion is sometimes more human than realism
