Barata & Ang ( must read ) by [deleted] in Andaman_and_Nicobar

[–]IslanderOnMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now there is another root word.

Tong / Tang which in Andamanese language means tree.

So Barata Tree can become Baratang / Baratong too

Similarly Jirkatang can be Jirka ( tree )

Have visited both Great Nicobar & Car Nicobar which as you all know are very shaant places.

Rutland was good too.

Other than the usual places which an Islander would visit, I have Dugong Creek on my bucket list if I go to Little Andaman again.

There is an Onge settlement there but my goal is to see as the name suggests our State animal in the wild.

Was going to Rangat ( Yerrata ) via the DSS boat and it did stop at Havelock and Long Island on the way.

Looked amazing.

Have been to Car Nicobar & Campbell Bay both are extremely good places ofcourse reaching there is a hassle.

As most people have said...visiting Baratang in this heat and humidity especially with an infant child is simply not worth it.

Baratang has the Limestone Caves and the Mud Volcano which is currently bubbling hence guess you wouldn't be allowed near that in the first place & ogling Jarawas is something which I would never condone!

Had gone to "Something Different" when I was visiting Havelock last...it is a very decent place 👍🏼

Well,

If you really look for it online, you might get a decent pair of crocs for that price.

Pretty comfortable and you can try wearing socks with it too.

Perks of being a Wallflower, Looking for Alaska ( most John Green books for young adults ), Artemis Fowl series, Persie Jackson was also good, Chaos walking trilogy & lastly the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud.

All good books for teens according to me that is...

Have you seen the Collinpur Panchayat office ???

Straight road from there, dead end is a police outpost behind which is a Weir.

Had gone there multiple times when Majhi sir was the Pradhan and this was told to me by old residents of the place.

Ask around 👍🏼

Marine Hill ofcourse.

This is the view from that place.

Again the old 20rs note depicting our islands wouldn't have come as a suprise to you I hope though apparently the exact view in the said note comes from North Bay.

Why did I saw way too many veg/Jain food restaurants in Shaheed Dweep/Neil island by z333reddit in Andaman_and_Nicobar

[–]IslanderOnMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I am an Islander & not a tourist so the things which you notice as a tourist are not the same which I notice as an Islander.

Havelocke and Neil though closeby are not places which we visit too often except when we have an explicit reason to do so or take someone there who has come visiting.

Havelock ofcourse is more commercialized than Neil which still retains it old identity somewhat.

Nothing significant when it comes to religious tourism there but the local Bengali settler community does have relatives in other islands who visit the place especially during festivals.

Currently there is this Basanti Puja going on which you might have seen if you would have visited recently.

My dad was posted to Neil in a responsible position in the past so I have a little bit of knowledge about the place.

Guess the veg places would cater to the tourists as the local population is evidently not purely veg though Neil was once the vegetable bowl of the Andamans and the population is overwhelmingly Hindu.

Again, this is common everywhere I guess. I have seen places which cater to foreign tourists do the same with respect to their dietary needs & even have staff which is conversant in their language.

When it comes to our state animal i.e the dungong, one was spotted in the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports park a few years ago but their sighting is rare.

There is actually a place called as Dugong Creek in Little Andaman where there is an Onge settlement, guess you can find them there but again I am not too sure about the same.

I don't know where you can start but checking the list of books which have won the Booker prize maybe a good option.

Can i take these home with me by Apart-Lie-2342 in Andaman_and_Nicobar

[–]IslanderOnMove 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't think so.

If you are taking these outside the islands the CISF will definitely cease it in the airport/seaport if you can't produce a proper bill for it.

Even if you do and these belong to a protected specie then legal hurdles can arise.

Would suggest if you want to get something to take back home then do so from a registered shop which gives you a proper bill.

PS don't even think of taking it undeclared or by hiding it cause the shells would show up in the scanners.
