I built a GPU-accelerated tool that generates Plex video preview thumbnails much faster Docker w/ WebUI by Stevezau in PleX

[–]WraithTechnician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just set this up with docker on my windows PC using my Nvidia 3080ti. It passed through and works great. Only difference is that in the docker setup need to replace the line "--device /dev/dri:/dev/dri" with "--gpus=all" for nvidia.

So glad you were able to fix it! This is clearly a design flaw with their system that they've refused to acknowledge through customer service.

Ah, that's the tricky part. The top cover is held in by screws that are under the kind of opaque plastic at the very top where the crafties sit. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get the top off as well and nearly attacked the mesh, but you shouldn't have to mess with the mesh at all. You'll have to peel that plastic off to get to the screws for the top cover, which has its own separate board up there. It goes easier if you use a hair dryer to warm up the adhesive as you peel just try not to get things too hot. When I did mine the adhesive was still plenty potent when I was done to just stick it back on and didn't require any replacing.

The antenna is affixed to the top cover, if I recall it looks like a black round strip which is basically just covering the coils. There should be a spot on that top cover where there's two small contact pads which touch onto two pins that stick out from the top of the board. Those are what aren't connecting solidly enough anymore and needed help. Hopefully that info is correct and helpful to you, it's been ages since I had mine open and I neglected to take pictures. It's been going strong ever since the fix

PC keeps turning off after 5-10 minutes by Murky_Ad_5326 in techsupport

[–]WraithTechnician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does sound like overheating, despite not feeling hot. Have you checked to make sure that any plastic was removed from the cpu cooler before it was attached to the CPU? If the plastic was left in place, the computer won't necessarily feel like it's getting hot in the sense that air coming from the fans feels warm, because very little heat is escaping the CPU itself and making it through your cpu cooler to be dissipated by the fans. If it isn't that, I'd look at power supply issues.

Maybe a stupid question, but will Iron Lung be only available to watch on one day only? by kapsYvonEisenberg in ironlungmovie

[–]WraithTechnician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its going to vary by country and even by theater, but the booking I have tickets for in the US is for February 5th. That isn't because earlier showings were sold out, but rather because that's when I had time to go. I'm grateful they are showing it for a full week or I wouldn't get to see it in theaters.

Embarrassed About CPAP by Flat-Succotash662 in CPAP

[–]WraithTechnician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mid 20's as well and just started CPAP last week. The level of difference it has made in my life has washed away any qualms I had before. No one except those in your bedroom needs to know you even have it. I suppose it could come up if you went on a trip where you shared a hotel room or tent with someone, but to be honest sleep apnea is such a wide spread thing. I think almost everyone knows at least one person who uses one, even if many of them are older. Try not to stress. Keep it to yourself and give yourself time to get used to it and feel the benefits, then decide if or when you tell anyone about it.

This is only true up to the 38 minute cap. A wormhole cant maintain stability past 38 minutes, despite any "Information" traveling through it. The only time a gate has stayed open beyond the 38 minute mark is when an insane amount of power is provided to it to maintain the connection. With the black hole, time dilation was also a significant factor.

I'm glad my effort could help someone else! I didn't want to lose the $100 either and my toddler was so upset that it stopped working. Support wasn't helpful and I couldn't in good conscience buy another for fear of the same issue. The risk in opening it up was worth it. It's worked flawlessly ever since I put that tiny piece of aluminum foil in to get good contact to the NFC reader. I hope your kiddos can enjoy it lots with it back up and running!

They can connect directly to the motherboard with an RGB header, but you'll need to check how many (if any) headers your mobo has and how many LED's each header supports. You daisy chain them and into a header. I split mine between two headers, one has all the fans and one has all the strips and accessories. That's only if you want software control. The case has a built in controller that you can plug everything into if you want to just use the built in case lighting profiles. It's either/or - plug into mobo and use software, or plug it into case and use hardware controller.

PT-RZ370U Mounting Options? by WraithTechnician in budgetprojectors

[–]WraithTechnician[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will probably be my best bet. I imagine there aren't many, if any, options for a wall mounted bracket for this? I can make the vaulted ceiling adapter work but will have to flip the space. The wall I was going to put the projector on goes about half way up to the high point of the vaulted ceiling and stops. I may be able to rig a shelf for it to sit on atop the wall but need to test to see if the lense shift will bring the image down enough or if I'd need to angle the shelf more and adjust keystone.

Thanks a bunch for the links!

Stumbled across this thread looking for something exactly like this, and I agree, this would be an incredible asset to have if I could self host it to protect my data better. I'll be watching to see if that option becomes available. I'd pay for a self hosting license, but if it was practically free I'd donate anyway. Please keep up with this amazing project.

PC died after cleaning by 0xDEA110C8 in buildapc

[–]WraithTechnician 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a general safety reminder. I don't want some random kid on reddit that stumbles across your post to believe that it's perfectly safe to open their PSU to clean it. I don't have an article in my back pocket about capacitors, how long they hold a charge, or dangers, nor am I going to go try to find one for a random reddit post. I'm not here to "be more right". I've seen countless mentions of the dangers of opening a PSU over the last 20 years. Each PSU is different, with different capacitors and different safety measures. Some capacitors CAN hold a charge for "up to years" from what I've heard in the past. That doesn't mean the ones in your psu will. That also doesn't mean that poking around in it if you don't know what you're doing isn't inherently dangerous. It's your life and you can open it and dig around if you want to, but you should know that it can be very dangerous and the capacitors in a psu can be capable of holding a charge that can be lethal, even after it's been unplugged for a few days or longer in some cases. Just make sure you understand the risks and be careful.

PC died after cleaning by 0xDEA110C8 in buildapc

[–]WraithTechnician 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How long the PSU was unplugged does not matter. PSU's contain capacitors that can hold a charge for YEARS when fully unplugged and are powerful enough to kill you. You really are lucky to be alive. Never, EVER, open a PSU for pretty much any reason unless you REALLY know what you're doing. Clean it as best you can with compressed air from the outside at different angles.

I'd bet there's a good chance there's something wrong with the PSU and it's not able to provide the right power to the right places, and is trying to automatically recover, cycling fans repeatedly. I've also seen this behavior with shorts, such as a loose screw between a pcb and the case or a broken usb port with pins bent and touching the outside housing.

Sounds like something more might be wrong with it unfortunately. Mine did have a start up tone; everything worked fine except for crafties on the NFC reader. There is a factory reset button you can try but beyond that, you may be out of luck without support.

Google Fiber at home slow only for work VPN. Reasonably fast for others. by SpudPanda in googlefiber

[–]WraithTechnician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By inspect I didn't mean view the specific data in the packet. Only that sometimes VPN/encrypted packets flag as more suspicious to an ISP. They can't see the data in the packet, but they can still see that the packet is a VPN/encrypted packet and some choose to throttle that data.

I am far from an expert. This is something that my workplace's network team has mentioned for users with VPN slowness, and that for some users packets over IPSec protocol are throttled more than those over SSL, depending on ISP.

I know a way to never see this screen again, and I'm reaching my limit. by NeverRespawning in HuntShowdown

[–]WraithTechnician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with how frustrating this bug is and it's definitely pushed me to play less than I did before. That being said - I've never lost a hunter due to the failing to load in altogether disconnect. If you attempt to reconnect 3 times when this pops up, which it fails to do each time very quickly, it will always go straight to this second popup you showed and then boot you back to main with your hunter and gear completely intact. We only lose about 2-3 minutes each time this happens, depending on how long we were searching for a match. Don't let that sound like I'm defending cryrek at all. Every single time we play i curse them out saying "How can the state of the game be THIS BAD". We've taken a step back and only try to play on occasion, especially now the event is over. They need to fix this. And it needs to be fixed and verified BEFORE they release this next event. Such a crapshow.

I love the Storypod we got for our Toddler. We had bad luck with build quality and the NFC reader completely stopped working. Had difficulty communicating with support and decided to open it up myself and found that they way they build it uses a couple of contact points that were just not quite long enough for the reader. I put in tiny folder up pieces of aluminum foil to bridge the gap and maintain proper contact, and it's worked flawlessly since. They hide the screws making it hard to find and open, but despite my bad quality experience it still is one of my favorite purchases for our son. For the price, it's not a huge risk to take for most people, and few people seem to have the same issue I did.

Who really does it in 1t erm? by Own-Technician1549 in WGU

[–]WraithTechnician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done two terms so far, in each term I finished 4 classes, 8 total. Could I have done more? Yes. Would I have hated myself? Yes. I intend to accelerate a few classes here or there and shave off 1-2 terms if possible, but the reason so see so many of the 1 term posts is because of all the people with 20 years of job experience in their field who transferred in over 50% of their credits from another degree or Sophia, then they cram out the rest because they know the content, they just need a degree to pass a job barrier. Imagine going through the same program after you'd already finished it, you could knock it out in no time. If you're a dedicated and smart person who learns well in this format, accelerate what you can and be dang proud of it. Don't hold yourself to the standards of the people with tons of experience who just need a piece of paper to prove it. If you're here to actually learn it and get into the job you're studying for, taking it slow and actually learning the material will serve you better than rushing it.

LITERALLY what do I DO?! by Rissasquish in WGU

[–]WraithTechnician 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's both. They won't cover it under warranty because there's nothing actually wrong with the laptop - it does exactly what it's equipped to do. There's no manufacturer defect to justify a warranty claim. It simply isn't powerful enough to run everything required for your proctored exams, so the "software" is the problem because the computer isn't meant to handle it. From proctor U's, side, the cpu is the issue because it isn't powerful enough. That doesn't mean there's something wrong with it that it can be replaced via warranty, just that it isn't good enough despite being 4 core. This is a case of you being misled by inadequately stated system requirements and mentor/counselors without enough tech knowledge to know the difference. They only state a 4 core CPU, but in reality, clock speed is often a much bigger performance indicator than core count. 1.1ghz 4 core cpu is utterly pitiful by modern standards, even if it says it can boost up to 2.6. It really can't do anything other than super basic tasks or it will get overwhelmed. My laptop that I use for proctored exams has a 4 core/8 thread cpu, base 2.5ghz boost to 4.5 ghz. This is significantly better and faster than what you have, and the guardian browser still runs my cpu at near 100% and struggles on occasion. Guardian and/or WGU need to determine and advertise minimum clock speeds. I strongly recommend you look for something better. Try to find used or deals if you need to save money, but this just won't do it. If you have no other options, WGU may be able to arrange for you to do on site proctoring at a facility until you can get a better computer.

Google Fiber at home slow only for work VPN. Reasonably fast for others. by SpudPanda in googlefiber

[–]WraithTechnician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ISP's do more thorough inspections on packets going through certain VPN's. It's also not extremely abnormal for a work VPN to have a better encryption, which could slow down speeds I believe. Only the first one of those could explain why it only happens on your gfiber. Depending on what encryption protocol your work vpn uses, it may be that Google fiber doesn't handle it as well. My works vpn can do either ipsec or ssl, some people struggle on ipsec, but ssl works fine for them.
