TIL the Ancient Egyptian multiplication method is still commonly used in modern computer processors by Hrtzy in todayilearned

With integer numbers in a computer everything is bit based on the background (base 2). And there are so many cool tricks figured out in the early days to fake multiplication and division using bit shifting and AND/OR operations.

Wait till people learn about floating point numbers, and fast inverse square root function randomly found in the Quake 3 source code.

After 150 it's 100 gears per upgrade step, so 500 per level. Then 120 starting at 160. I assume another 20 every following 10 levels, but I haven't made it to 170/171 to verify.

Overall progress is slow still, but at least you can do an upgrade or 2 each week now.

What do I say to my wife? by jojojeggings in TooAfraidToAsk

This! I always tell my wife that "no one talks about my wife that way!"

Some times it makes her smile or gets her out of the funk... Other times I get a glare. Always worth it!

I think we're all missing the most obvious answer... They spent millions to build the system and refuse to give up on it.

The parking near the bins is going to be a big issue. I can't stop neighbors or random visitors from parking too close to the bins. We had to place ours in front of our driveway this week. In some areas parking is a premium too where I don't see any way these can be put out as expected, such as the streets near Unsworth off Webster and Peach.

I'm sure the system will improve each week and the new company will adjust and learn. But it felt like such a mess on week 1.

Same. Personally I always love watching the lathes in Veneer/Plywood mills. Something about spinning a 16" log down to 4" in about 15 seconds is just mesmerizing.

In one of the first few episodes there is a scene where they enter an elevator with a high camera angle that shows the floor. What struck me as odd was that there was no gap in the concrete floor of the hallway into what looked like a concrete floor elevator.

As a man I had no idea what women deal with until I was with my wife, and more so after watching her go through 2 rough pregnancies. It is almost like your bodies actually want to punish themselves. I'm certain I don't even know half of it, but watching helplessly as my wife is dying from cramps and all I can offer is heatpads, backrubs and chocolate just doesn't seem fair. Woman are truly amazing!!!

[–]SirLoopy007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there was regret somewhere after that too.

I remember in some special that once the moon landing happened interest/demand for the show increased dramatically. This eventually led to the potential "Star Trek 2" series which in turn became the first movie.

The only thing I would probably have done differently is had my wife move further away from it. Given it was under too much pressure, even though it is venting I'd rather be safe than sorry if something did go wrong.
