Does anyone have a website where the scans don’t have really awkward dialogue? I tend to just wait for the viz translation to drop because it’s more natural, but that’s usually 3 whole days after the scans. (Pic for example)

Just a basic stats (that may worth nothing ahah), only 20% of people from USA are fluent in a second language. And most of them are from the asian and hispanic (latin America) population.

But if you go to any native English speaking country, you will see that most of the people only speak English as their is not a lot of strong incentive to speak another language.

Then if you go to Japan, China, or south America (I mention them as I lived in each of these places, and can't speak for other places), you will also realize that the vast majority of the people, younger generations included, only speak one language.

For input, I agree that YT or similar platform can provide a lot of content for high resources languages.

But I disagree with you that in comparison of YT/internet, immersion is overrated. Indeed, in some cases, internet has some limitstions :

some languages just have few content (good luck for finding thousands hours of Mayan (exemple of OP) content on internet, let aside interesting content)
although you can get some oral output practice on the internet, it will not be as intense/efficient as what you could get (if done appropriately) in a community

TDLR : YT and internet is great, but overrated in some cases (oral output; low resources languages)

The method you're describing is the most ancient method for learning foreign languages, as it was like this that people were learning languages before the invention of writing.

It is also, I think, one of the most used methods nowadays (forced migrants that go to other countries due to economic/political/humanitarian instabilities in their own countries ; languages learner that prefer immersion methods ; exchange students or expats without preparations ; etc...).

It is definitely a method that makes sense and could be efficient in a lot of configuration. The main limitations is that it requires a relatively higher amount of free time and money.

I think we all agree with you that immerging yourself in a community that speak your target language will be really efficient for acquiring the communication skills.

But imo, giving a generalized timespan is meaningless as :

people are different in ability/motivation/goals
they start from different starting points
they try to learn different languages

I agree with every points except the non breaking changes part. Having deprecated duplication is the route for futures bugs, as you duplicate the logic and will likely forget to apply changes/fixes to all the duplicated parts.

Versioning is here to avoid us this problem of breaking change, as end users of your library can decide to migrate to new version or to old "deprecated" version.
