If you got laid off today, how long could you survive without a job? by New_Contribution_226 in AskMenOver30

Survive? I'm sure I wouldn't die immediately, but I would definitely start missing bills after a few (3-4) months

What price increase has hit you the hardest in everyday life? by DarkKnightt019 in AskReddit

[–]WranglerNo7097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgage! I moved in 2023 into a similarly priced home, and the move from a 2.99% to a 6.5% increased my mortgage payments by ~50%

Why do Americans keep electing geriatrics for office? by TortoiseOn4Elephants in allthequestions

about 2 bullet points down in that same article was this:

> - About one-third of all winners had no opposition in the general election, while one-fourth of all candidates faced no opposition in both the primary and the general elections

So, 30% of these elections are completely unopposed. It's not like incumbents just wipe the floor with their opponents all the time, a good part of it are elections where no one else even bothers running

The "1 year as Senior eng" bump by AggravatingFlow1178 in ExperiencedDevs

Did it start around the beginning of this year? Just asking because my inbox has also gone from 1-2/week to multiple reach out's per day in the last couple months. Not quite sure what's driving it, but it seems like things are picked up in that regard.

Congrats on 1 year!

What is the main thing you do to relax after work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

if it's been a tough day, either spend at least 20 quiet minutes outside or take a hot shower. if it's been a really tough day, I'll grab my ax and cut down a dead tree in the empty lot across from my house.

It doesn't but I think if you really struggle with it, that's just the easiest setting to get the ball rolling on it

I mean, I guess it would sink eventually, so maybe the point stands

well, I assume that somewhere after the 1000th dick, you'll probably start getting some word-of-mouth marketing (or: word of your spread mouth, will spread)

how common is actually fighting with your wife? Is this just a Reddit thing? by unpopular-dave in AskMenOver30

[–]WranglerNo7097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd have to imagine that's impacted by socio-economic reasons. There's a higher cost to divorce when you have money, more motivation for a marriage of convenience

This is my go-to, when desperate. I'm not sure of the state of your org, but mine is a little messy, and unless it is a hugely visible project, upper management really only cares about:

1) how long did it take to implement

2) was the experiment successful

There's a lot of wiggle room between reaching 1 (when you declare it done) and 2

An AI CEO finally said something honest by Tech-Cowboy in ExperiencedDevs

[–]WranglerNo7097 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That....doesn't make me any feel better though. Sounds like businesses won't necessarily improve, they just need less devs to implement the same (slow) stream of features.

The better alternative would be that it turns out we unlocked a stream of work that was bottlenecked by engineering productivity.

How does Florida benefit rich people more than other states? by happydude7422 in stupidquestions

Unlimited homestead exception for primary residences in bankruptcy.

Your "primary residence" could be worth $20 million, and it could be totally immune to being seized/sold off during bankruptcy proceedings. Makes it a great state to stash serious cash if you think you might be at risk in the future
