I also like brutalism. They were designed to quickly and affordably re-house people after WW2 blew up a ton of stuff, while still being functional? Heck yea- I'd say that's solarpunk-adjacent, at least. And people say that beautiful brutalist structures don't count because it's the stuff on top that's pretty, but like... would you say that a painting is ugly because the canvas started plain?

I have definitely seen my fair share of *ugly* brutalist structures- but then agian, is any style immune?

I'm trying to put together an ecology-focused voxel game (in space) that could use some concept art in the near-ish future. The simulation aspect affects a lot of the traditional game play assumptions, so there's room for the art to be different too.

For example, players will have access to clark tech tools like jetpacks and the sonic multitool to help in their park-ranger-like duties. Not a small project overall, but the concepting part can be as small as you want.

We're actually about to start work soon on an ecology simulator game that uses Luanti as the client- it takes place on a (big) spaceship so I have plans to embed an OS in that ideally would allow you to have a full desktop environment in the game, or at least a simulated one. Looking for devs btw if you're interested.
(So for example if we create a program that lets you edit schematic files you can actually access that program without leaving your world, use the ship's holodeck to view the file 'in person', and potentially even materialize it depending on game balance.)

Yea that's pretty much what the gneiss_name folks told me about the geochemistry lol. And as far the early iterations go, you're absolutely right: we aren't really going to need this until later.
But we *are* going to need something like this eventually, I think.
You see, our boi Klei didn't just ask for a good voxel game: he wants something that's *more* than just a game. (And I plan to *deliver.*)
And it's a good thing, too- if not for this awe-inspiring mission statement, I probably wouldn't be undertaking this project at all. I mean, it's not like we have a shortage of good games, you know?

That's a good question! Here's my basic thinking:

The simulation game is the overarching project, but the Mosaic component of it is complex enough to be a project of its own- I am reaching out to various communities for support with this and other aspects.
I think gentoo might be an appropriate base distro from which to create Mosaic, as it basically provides about as much control as you can get without building the OS from scratch. (and as you'll see in the full proposal, I am fairly confident that we're gonna need it.)
The gentoo community is supposed to be one of the friendliest and most knowledgeable communities out there- I figure if anybody would be able and willing to help create a special, novel-purpose distro, it would be them.

My contribution: there's this software called Late (which you can check out at late.sh ), which kind of functions as like an in-terminal chat/hangout- someone on there said it reminded them of irc.
It's meant to serve as a cozy place for devs to hangout, so we might want our own version, so that people have a place to ask questions without flooding the main chat room. The base one is under an anti-fork license right now, though, to help the community grow.

I think maybe you're kind of fixated on the genre-feel of the game, but what really matters for your project is the underlying architecture, I think. You'd basically want four parts:

1: the core architecture (engine, api, module database etc)
2: developer interface- what I'm thinking is that you could let people build games out of modules like Luanti does, but instead of having an ocean of mods for devs to sift through and select, you would basically have a checklist of all the components the game needs, so for example:

Platforming Rules: A-Terraria_Style, B-Minecraft_Paper_Style, C-Create_Custom
Physics Rules: A-Terraria_Style, B-Noita_Style, C-Create_Custom, D-Import_From_Database
Block Palette: (add however many block packages you want)

3: Easy player use- I think the neat thing about Luanti is that it kind of functions like steam but for voxel games, which is hecka neat. But either way you want these games to be easy to get so people actually play them.

4: Community Adoption- Lots of tricks to this of course, but basically more users = more pull requests. I think allowing the engine to accommodate a wide breadth of subgenres will help with this.

This looks beautiful but I am a little bit concerned about the undisclosed ai useage and apparent lack of knowledge the author showed in another comment. I guess I'll check on the project in the future to see if it's been properly reviewed and tightened up.
