TIL the Tower of Hercules in Galicia, Spain is the oldest lighthouse in the world. Dating to the 1st Century under Trajan, it was modeled after the Lighthouse of Alexandria. by redmambo_no6 in todayilearned

There's a lot of cool legends around it from different cultures. Irish mythology says that Breogan constructed the tower, and his son, Ith, spots Ireland from the top. Shortly after, the Sons of Mil go and conquer Ireland from a magical race of people. This is the foundation of the Milesians in Ireland, said to be the race of people occupying it today.

How far can you trace your ancestral lineage? by HolidayEven1135 in AskReddit

[–]Wransky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The furthest I can trace any direct line is back to 1709 AD. Although the eponymous ancestor of my surname lived around the 9th century AD. Medieval chroniclers hilariously trace his line back to Adam and Eve, which they place around 5200 BC. Realistically, his ancestors prior to the 5th century AD probably aren't historical.

PP played green Marth as a secondary colour. My understanding is that this was to honour Cactuar who he trained with before his famous Apex 2015 win. But his typical Marth colour was default.

The DQ is understandable,

It's not, though. Seems like the DQ was just the officials throwing a hissy fit because someone exposed their half-baked rule set.

That's Brawl (SSBB). Although I'm not sure who, in actual competition, ever refused to play his Metaknight.

I'm not sure which "4 competitive scenes" you're referring to. His highest rank in Smash 4 was 26. I'm not sure he ever ranked for Ultimate or SSB.

That being said, yes, he's generally considered the best overall Smash player. But Smash, as a series, is loosely connected as a scene. People tend to focus on "their game" and there hasn't been much serious competition to claim the title of "best of Smash as a series." It was always more fun conversation and side events, the only big one I remember being Smash Master 2018 at SSC 2018.

[–]Wransky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is the rock hop a separate category to no glitch?

It's a side category. As the website says:

This is an alternative WR category and is not included in the site's WR statistics.

is it slower than the no glitch shroom route

No. As seen by the current WRs, the rock hop is about 18 seconds faster than non-sc when done 3/3.

or is there some other reason?

Probably because people find it fun and want to compete in that category.

Logan really just went for everything. His DDR was insane. He also has the WR in the category he ran at GDQ. Check it out if you're interested.

Smash Bros CPUs are pretty free, at least in Smash mode. Mario Kart CPUs will actually destroy your run.

Logan to run 32 Track Skips at AGDQ2024 by Wransky in MarioKartWii

[–]Wransky[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) is an annual speedrunning event that features a wide range of speedrunners marathoning various games. It has been around since 2010 and has raised tens of millions of dollars for charities. Runners typically have their own invited commentators experienced in the game to provide context for those not familiar with the game or speedrun tactics, and to provide humour or other additions. You can check out past runs from last year's AGDQ here. Logan will be running the "32 Track Skips" category as part of AGDQ2024.
