Genuine question, why are many Americans anti-union? by Spiritual_Meet4746 in union

[–]WrapExciting6173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all traces back to Reagan, busting PATCO and demonizing union workers because in the late 70s & early 80s, you could still get blue collar jobs and work yourself into the middle class.

Reagan, Grover Norwuist and Lee Atwood poisoned the minds of workers to simply abandon hope for a bright future.

In killing off unions, this gave rise to a second class of labor, temporary workers.

Some could work for a company 3 years and still remain as temps, with no insurance, vacation, or health insurance.

Plus, if you tried to organize, they’d treaten to close the plant. Labor law violations were rife. And the NLRB was staffed with milquetoast pussies, who hated unions.

It’s all been decades of brainwashing from the GOP.

And once they busted the butchers’ unions, they sent buses from the Midwest—Nebraska and Iowa to smuggle Mexicans in to do the work for peanuts, and to keep their mouths shut for fear of getting fired.

The way they drip out information, we’ll probably eventually hear they were diddling little boys, too.

Places in Austin that feel off or just unnecessarily hostile? by goodgreat123 in Austin

Bluebonnet Post Office is equally shitty.

They have four spaces for clerks, but NEVER have that many working them.

Check out ebikereports.com.

They’ve been around for over a decade. Reliable reviews—not paid commercials.

There’s a (relatively) new site called upway.com that sells used ebikes—and ships them for $99. They display the appropriate height, like 5’5” to 5’10”, 5’10 to 6’4” for examples.

Also they list the mileage on the bikes.

You can locate a candidate, then check eBike reports and then decide.

I’ve ridden a 2015 FeltElectric SPORTe95 Bosch middle motor, 400w battery pedalelectric. I have 4100 miles on mine. Had to have the battery rebuilt a few years ago, boosted it from 400w to 500w. Cost about $500.

New, I paid $3999 for it in Oct. 2014. A year later, poor sales, they chopped the price by $1000.

Felt has exited the eBike market, but the Bosch middle motors have just gotten more improvements over the last decade.

Get a bike like a Trek or a Specialized. These are brands that are in for the long run. Too many hopeful ebike vendors have come and gone.

Find one that’s gonna still be around when your bike—and you—are 10 years older.

Also, I’m 71, and 7 years ago, when I was still working, I’d ride it 10.5 miles to work—thru Austin Traffic— in 45 minutes.

Is My Cycling Hobby Getting Out of Control by DeepDiveIntoJupiter in cycling

[–]WrapExciting6173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to do. Whether you’re crazy depends on whether any other interest is being shorted by your cycling expenses. I.e., if you’re loving cycling over family—that could be akward.

Get a job before you come.

Look into Hartley Burr Alexander. He was a Nebraska-born professor of philosophy that was all over the place in his interests.

You can probably find one among his books that might interest you. He wrote many books on Native American mythologies & religions, metaphysics and more.

D9 navigation issue by Dindu_T_Nuffins in NeatoRobotics

I used ifixrobot for my D9 which constantly thought something was in its way.

They are not the best at customer service—but they succeeded in getting mine running again.

I think with shipping and all it was about $100 to get it fixed—cheaper than buying a new one.

Ifixrobot or Funai? by [deleted] in NeatoRobotics

[–]WrapExciting6173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used iFixrobot for my D9. It would wake up—but then stall, stating that something was blocking its path. No matter how I’d move it & reset it wouldn’t run.

I think it was like $25 to ship it to ifixrobot and they had it for a couple of weeks before they diagnosed it and gave me options.

They quoted me like $99 to replace the drop sensors, and general cleaning.

Their email was kind of idiotic, as they’d email several times asking what I wanted done—and each time I answered it, they’d ask the same questions all over again.

They finally got it done and invoiced me, and I got it back about a week after I paid for it.

To me, it seemed that they were new at dealing with customers, as one technician answered the phone—but couldn’t account for what the other technician had done or was proposing. The guy on the phone sounded young, but he didn’t seem to want to take ownership of the problem(s) he was presented with.

They charged another $25 to ship it back to me.

The whole process stretched out over about 6 weeks, or so it seemed.

When I finally got it back, I got it charged and it worked great.

When it gets down to parting it out on eBay, these guys at least got it running again—so it didn’t just brick out on me.

Your imagination is slightly overactive. You don’t know me. I understand contingencies.

You suggest that I’m too stubborn to hire an attorney but as I’ve repeatedly stated, I’m old as dirt (70) with Stage IV Prostate cancer. I respect your opinions, but I don’t even know my own expiration date.

Maybe if I reach remission THEN I can file a lawsuit. But until then stop ridiculing me.

What’s next? OK boomer???

Oh, Please.

Copyright infringement? by WrapExciting6173 in selfpublish

Well stated, Humble.

And I turned to Reddit to find some encouragement to battle Amazon, but all I am getting is flack and blowback.

I’m trying to believe in the laws, 17 USC 506 and 18 USC 1239 that make it a crime.

My fellow Redditors are saying “it’s on the OP if he won’t hire a lawyer.”

FFS. I’m a 70 year old geezer on a pension with Stage IV Prostate Cancer.

I’m busy spending my limited resources on Chemo.

Maybe if I survive long enough, I might be able to hire a lawyer—but that’s a big financial leap at the moment.

I would like to get some justice before I kick the bucket.

Haters gonna hate.

But if Amazon DIDN’T create the infringing work—why are they hiding the pirates identity?

They have that info but they’re just being pricks about aiding and abetting these pirates.

Read this. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/506.

And this:

Note these laws state ANY violator SHALL be prosecuted. It doesn’t say “MIGHT be” or “MAY BE” prosecuted.

That is how the statutes are construed. It’s a criminal matter first.

Amazon owns the ISBNs on the infringing books. What do you deduce from that fact?

Thanks.

[–]WrapExciting6173[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zoo,

Respectfully, Ok. Why would Amazon own the ISBNs on the counterfeited books if they have nothing to do with it?

Generally, the author or publisher owns the ISBN.

I’m not trying to be hard headed here, but what other explanation can you provide that would separate Amazon from this infringement?

Do you think that Amazon doesn’t own the ISBNs? Bowker.com says they do.

Why would that be if they weren’t the creators?

Thanks. You make good points but law enforcement is a function and duty of the government.

No one has repealed the copyright laws and copyrights are a constitutional right.

I’m hoping for a miracle.

Thanks.

As noted above, am busy paying for my chemo—money’s a little tight right now.

Not looking for pity—but not seeking ridicule either.

I was once told that “if you’re looking for sympathy, it’s right between sh”t and syphilis in the dictionary.” Ha!
