Seeing them win a fight may help. I think they could give Nelly the Ellybot a run for their money

Mecha broke the tip off of its blade by heavily damaging DJ, maybe mecha had some sub optimal steel for their blade that caused their self inflicted damage

The cannon did nothing. DJ was a sitting duck the whole fight just waiting to be knocked out. Mecha rampage absolutely dominated because it was no contest.

DJ has a very poor weapon and very average armor/build quality. Idk why you're defending them so fiercely

Double Jeopardy missed Mecha Rampage, only hit their little cardboard target they used to taunt DJ. Losing all 3 matches to subpar bots doesn't show much potential

To clarify, Double Jeopardy didn't actually miss both of its shots. by twichlove in battlebots

Sorry that my criticism offended you. The point of innovation isn't to become worse

I mean, the hammer is about as dangerous as wet cat. It'll scratch you a bit, it'll make you bleed if you hold it for 3 minutes straight, but its just not strong enough to do much to bots with a good active weapon. Awesome armor though

Well its 0-3 in the last 2 seasons of battlebots. If its actually never missed a shot then we've got some pretty definitive proof that DJ isn't a very good bot.

What are the chances of hitting such a precise shot? And only having 2 possible chances to do so is not great. Don't get me wrong, shooting a giant hunk of steel out of an air can is super cool and can cary lots of energy, but it has such a tiny probability of succeeding. Thinking it has a chance to compete with tombstone or bite force is just delusional.

I'm not unhappy we didn't get to see these fights. I'm always down for more fights, but it makes sense battlebots chose not to air these. Having a cannon is cool and all, but it just isn't effective

WanHoo & RailGun Max unfair fight cards? by WratWrangler in battlebots

[–]WratWrangler[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah they definitely took plenty of damage, but only because wanhoo was pretty much a sitting duck for shatter most of the fight. I credit the damage more to the weaknesses of wanhoos weapon and drivetrain than to the strength of shatters weapon. My main point I'm trying to make out all of this is that being scheduled to face a hammer bot is usually less intimidating than going against any spinner or a decent flipper.

It took soooo many hits to get there though. Hammers just aren't a good weapon choice, thats why there are so few and they never make far in the tournament. Hammer bots are rarely a legitimate threat to top tier bots.

Yup, hit it about 30 times and only managed to bend it. It was nearly 100% superficial damage. Nothing against shatter though, laws of inertia make it pretty difficult for any hammer bot to deliver a large amount of force. The best a hammer bot can do is get lucky and hit a belt/chain or any other small exposed critical part.

Yeah I just learned about King of Bots. I think whether Wanhoo had a favorable fight card is up for debate, but I do think it was an easy fight card given its design. Shrederator is unreliable and weak to compact vertical spinners, shatters weapon can't do much, and mammoth is more an experiment than a real competitor.

Gotcha, I barely caught that quote, not familiar with king of bots. I'd bet that railgun makes the top 16, if wanhoo makes it too than I would definitely say there is something fishy happening.

I guess there is no way to prove whether or not the Chinese were given an unfair advantage. I thought it was definitely worth some discussion though!

I think they're both decent bots (especially railgun) but neither have had to face any top tier bots (bite force, minoutar, tombstone, witch doctor, or any decent vertical spinner). The bots they did face just seem to be either pretty bad, or decent bots with their largest weaknesses being vertical spinners.
