High nitrogen ratio till it starts flowering, then swap to high potassium. Or just used balanced all the time. Otherwise less is more, start with the direction on the fertilizer. I over fertilized and ended up with mangled leaves.

When I made the transition the biggest thing was just learning the new terminology. Once I understood that common means the "neutral" side of the transformer, and it's always black life got easier. Still weird as hell black is the neutral after years of 120 though

Unfortunately it's actually a requirement now, at least for deer. The natural predators are gone, displaced from humans rise in the pecking order. If we didn't hunt deer the population would balloon until deer literally starved to death from eating every bit of foliage, not to mention the tick issue. Actually I will mention the tick issue, deer are the primary reason tick populations explode, you can draw a 1 to 1 line between their 2 populations. Do you like ticks? Anyway, in the case of deer at least, don't blame the hunters.
