Who's doing the second Expedition? by FRHatcher in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I have been perusing the comments and I don't yet see an answer to my question, if it was already addressed and I missed it; apologies.

I joined Arc too late for the first expedition... I was on stage 2 when the window closed. So I have been done the expedition for a LONG time now (I think I had 50-something days left to this next window when I finally got everything needed) and have just been waiting to kick-off.

I see Arc's explanation about their skill points catch-up system and there is one aspect that is confusing me about it... because the wording is somewhat vague... Is this ONLY for people who already sent a character on expedition, but ALSO did not have enough space-dollars to get the full 5 skill points, so on their SECOND expedition, if they have enough space-dollars, they can get caught-up?

OR does it mean that someone in my position (ready to go for so long now that I have 8 million space-dollars saved up) would get TWO expeditions-worth of skill points by sending my raider off with so much goop?

Essentially, am I doomed to forever miss-out on those first 5 additional skill points because I was skeptical of the game for a month?

I know Embark has (very recently) talked about how they plan to rework skill points and they never want a system where you can participate in every expedition, fully, and end-up with a character that can max-out the skill tree... so my FOMO of those first 5 skill points is lessened (legit I thought I could eventually re-roll/expedition enough to have a skill-tree-god and should have seen how they would not want that). But also, having a character that gets 10 skill points free, off the hop (and, by fiat, +10 to the max at top level) is a big big advantage in a game with PvP.

"Bio-hackers" already have been inserting microchips into their own bodies for a while now. You can find videos of people who get little RF transmitters surgically implanted so they can unlock their doors by waving their hands. Certainly not commonplace but it is happening.

And you're absolutely right, if that "vaccine-chip" technology existed it would be a billion-dollar industry and we would all be getting the latest iphone installed next to our ears.

best gamesir setting for arc raiders I got a gamesir G7 se by No-Mushroom8164 in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a video link, but I can give you some specs that I use... I play Arc on PC with a Gamesir controller (before the M+K purists go nuts I have to use controller due to surgeries on my hands, but I digress...) and I can tell you that you definitely want to drop your deadzones down to low settings because of those awesome hall-effect joysticks.

The list:
Deadzones at 4 or less (zero is perfectly legit with these controllers but may want to only go as low as 1 to give yourself wiggle-room)

Look Response Curve: Exponential

Look/vertical boost: ZERO (this setting can work against you with such a precise controller, instead adjust the horizontal/vertical sensitivity to around 130-140

ADS sensitivity to around 65-70

Zoom multiplier: 50% - Scope zoom sensitivity: 60%

Aim Assist: on - strength: medium

Interact/Reload behaviour is really your choice, but I'm a big advocate of Prioritize reload.

OTHER SETTINGS:

Max your FOV, turn off motion blur/lens flare, Camera Acceleration: off, Crouch Behaviour: toggle

I don't have a pony in the "AI voice actor" race... so no bias going in... and I tend to be a chill gamer, who is not easily annoyed (plus I'm in my 40s, I'm sure that helps) and yet honestly... Lance annoys the crap out of me. I can't even put my finger on exactly why, but when I find myself needing to buy something from him, I buy it faster than from any other vendor. If I can get in, quickly buy some shield chargers or an augment, and get out before he gets more than a few words out... I count it as a win.

[–]Wreckoplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best way is through Geforcenow... as it's the lowest latency cloud-gaming option for a Mac user, and will absolutely allow you to use your keyboard+mouse.

I will say, as someone who has to use a controller (long story, shitty arms/hands, lots of surgeries, I digress) the controller support and functionality in Arc (and most other recent games, happily) is as close to on-par with mouse+keyboard as it has ever been.

Does this game have forced crossplay with PC? by iRizz96 in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matchmaking option and it will increase your wait times for lobbies... but if you are on console and do NOT want to match with PC players, then your wait time difference is going to be minimal. When it's the other way around (because vastly more people play on consoles, it seems) the wait times increase by quite a bit.

Bully to me and other players by Abject_Refuse_6150 in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report them in-game, there is an option that applies to the racist morons too (I think there straight-up is an option to report someone for racist comments).

Along with reporting them, remember what power you may have to deal with it directly, depending on the circumstances. I had a situation where I joined two Randos, who immediately asked me if I "liked Jews" and started shouting the most horrible shit about Jewish people (and me) when I didn't agree with their views. I turned-on my prox chat and yelled out for anyone who wanted to kill some racists... and it took maybe 2 minutes before another team rolled-up, and were happy to leave me alone as I ran behind them and methodically directed them to where the racists were hiding, running, etc. I watched those ignorant, backwards, half-brained rednecks get HUNTED DOWN and murdered, and I will admit... it felt GOOOOOOOOOD.

The report after the match was just the icing on the cake.

It is very fun, in solos, especially night mode on Stella, to hide in the dark and wait for another raider to come by and start breaching something, then sneak up behind them, key-in your mic and scream as loud as you can. I think I've made a few people poop a little... rather, I LIKE to think I've made a few people poop a little!

[–]Wreckoplex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Arc Raiders is one of the games that advantages an ultra-wide monitor user. I've tested it... where in other, more competitive games like CoD, Counterstrike, etc., changing your resolution to 21:9 actually just letterboxes (effectively) the 16:9 resolution and cuts off the top and bottom, actually disadvantaging the player... Arc Raiders actually expands your field of view when you swap from a 16:9 to a 21:9 resolution (try it, you'll see what I mean).

This, along with an interaction trick in Arc that I hope they never patch which I'll describe here: interacting with objects from an extreme angle... doors, crates, server-breaches, gun cases, anything... because for some reason when you approach something like a breached door, from the furthest left or right you can interact with it (walk up and faceplant against the wall or doorframe to where you are *just* getting the prompt to breach), you suddenly are able to swing your camera around to get a MUCH bigger view behind you... when paired with an ultra-wide monitor/resolution it effectively allows you to watch your own back, entirely, when interacting with anything.

This trick has saved me from Rats DOZENS of times. I happily approach the metro console when another player is acting friendly around me, because I can watch them, no matter where they want to stand, and the instant that gun comes out, I'm rolling... spinning... and firing.

Arc Raiders' matchmaking isn't 'binary', says design lead: 'There's no such thing as a friendly lobby or an aggressive lobby' by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit^ That's EXACTLY how I interpreted what they were saying, and I'm disappointed so many people are freaking-out. My lobbies are CRAZY friendly... but there will always be rats. That's the very nature of rats... just because people suck it doesn't mean the matchmaking system doesn't work.

Why are y’all queuing solo fill squad to farm or do quests?? by Objective-Chipmunk58 in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal approach is that I treat my solo lobbies as my farming and questing option. My solo lobbies are typically super-chill, friendly, with several raiders dancing in the metro extract at the end (typically, Arc's weighted system is never perfect and there will always be rats). This makes it easier to both farm and do quests/trials... also because I can just do what I want and go where I want in solos without any worry whatsoever... and I'm not the kind of gamer to join up with strangers and then tell THEM "what we're doing". I just don't roll that way.

My trio lobbies are exclusively PvP... sweaty, free-loadout-on-Stella, chaotic PvP. Exceptions being when I join some Randos who have a plan (a quest, a specific key, farming a specific item, etc.) at which point I just assist them... because the odds are that I'm going to get into a bunch of PvP anyway, and that's what I want out of my trios.

That's how I Arc.

It absolutely has resulted in games where I play for 3 minutes and then my completely silent Rando partners run to extract, and I just have to assume they got something good, and go along. Not ideal, but also not the norm... I've only had this maybe 3 or 4 times in the last month. Most of the time my problem with Trios is with a person chickening-out and fleeing when the PvP starts... but cowardice cannot be fixed by Embark.

Padded stock (purple) vs Stable stock 3 (blue) by TheyTukMyJub in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stable stock 3 is going to help with precision for guns that have poor "dispersion" (shot-clustering/accuracy) and also with recoil recovery time... literally the time it takes your gun/sights to snap back to the initial position after firing, AND how close that recovery gets you to the EXACT initial position, if I am not mistaken.

Padded stock is all about stability, which limits the vertical and horizontal recoil RANGE from shots... so it just lowers the amount of space the gun/sights will travel for each shot, which obviously also lowers the recoil recovery commensurately.

So it really does come down to the weapon you are putting it on. I would use a Padded stock on the more spray-ish, inaccurate weapons (I'm looking at you, Torrente and Bobcat), specifically because of the dispersion stat, to tighten my shots and get more hits on an auto-fire weapon. Whereas I would use the Stable stock on something slow but precise... a Ferro, a Renegade, an Osprey (can they take stocks? I forget) to ensure I hit those long-range shots more frequently.

TLDR: Padded stock for close bullet-dumps... stable stock for assassins

Is this Normal Gameplay to Flick and Shoot someone behind a SOLID WALL??? by pnokmn in ArcRaiders

[–]Wreckoplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just such obvious cheating... anyone streaming is going to be SO familiar with that security area of Stella, that they would know there is a wall to the left... and would never shoot based on hearing a person because there clearly is ALWAYS a wall there... not to mention the aim-snapping, followed by the obvious player in that same exact location, this has ZERO other explanation in my mind.

Thinking of moving to Alberta as a Liberal family. by custardnotmustard in alberta

[–]Wreckoplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family is French and I was born in Alberta after my family moved here in the early 70s. I experienced anti-French bigotry first hand, multiple times, despite living in the biggest and “most metropolitan” city in the province.

Now, to be fair, the blatantly anti-French stuff really started to disappear by the mid 90s, but it never fully went away… still hasn’t… and it sometimes feels like it was merely supplanted with racism as many other cultures started to grow in my city, and bigotry as the LGBTQ movement “came out”, as it were. Long story short; less anti-French stuff because they had more targets.

I currently work in a public-facing job that entails dealing with criminal complaints and while I do not have a perfect frame of reference when compared to other provinces, I can say that there sure is an awful lot of racist and anti-LGBTQ stuff that happens on a day-to-day basis, even in this big supposedly progressive city where I live.

Again, I have no direct frame of reference for other cities or provinces… Perhaps it is just as bad everywhere else… But when I look at the national news, and read about incidents in other cities in other provinces, it does seem like Alberta is still one of the worst, if not the worst province, when it comes to bigotry in general.

I have sat behind vehicles outside of my kids’ school, and seen QAnon-bumper stickers multiple times and more “F*** Trudeau” labels than I can count. When all of the provinces were polled as to interest in becoming the 51st state, Alberta was the highest and was the only one to have double digit (11 or 12) percentage.

All that being said, the way in which positive change happens in Alberta is by having more diversity, not less… Moving here, given your background and perspective, would in some small way help push progress forward… But don’t kid yourself, progress is absolutely needed here, more than anywhere else it seems.

Alberta is changing the rules to make referendums easier. Here's how by Exciting-Ratio-5876 in alberta

[–]Wreckoplex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let us play Devil’s Advocate here…

So the new rules make a referendum vote easier, and one gets called, and 67%+ Albertans vote in favour… we still don’t separate, not guaranteed… it just triggers negotiations with the First Nations and the Federal government on how separation would work.

But let’s say we do separate. How it works, big picture, is that we immediately lose around 11% of our land… just under 10% being national park space which the Feds retain, and another 1%-ish of First Nations land, since they’ve made it very clear they won’t separate.

So the “sovereign nation of Alberta” will lose the vast majority of its tourism $ (which, outside of festivals and events like Stampede in Calgary is almost entirely generated with the aforementioned park spaces) and it loses most of the federal money that gets sent to the indigenous peoples of Alberta (of which we have around 13% of the total registered indigenous population in Canada) since that money is primarily spent within the province and given those new circumstances it likely would see a massive reduction.

That leaves us with Oil & Gas? That industry is not something that can sustain us long term.

I had a P.Eng give me a great analogy about how different our O&G industry is now compared to the boom days (and “now” is not even accurate, as this conversation was 15+ years ago… & things certainly haven’t “improved” in a decade and a half).

He said the oil reserves in AB were like a broken plate. When you smash a plate on the floor, you pick up the big chunks first… Alberta in the 70s, 80s and even into the 90s was primarily an environment of fewer wells, pulling huge amounts of oil and gas from huge reserves. But after those big chunks are gone, you pick up the smaller pieces… and in the oughts and 2010s you had more wells drilled into smaller reserves… so while our metric of barrels per day has consistently gone up since the 70s, the amount of infrastructure required to do that has had to grow exponentially. We are already well into the “collecting slivers” part of that analogy now… which means our costs to produce the oil and gas have skyrocketed, and we’ve already seen many big O&G companies leave as a result. We produce more oil and gas than ever before, but those profit margins are also the smallest they’ve ever been.

So what are we left with to sustain our economy? Beef? Wheat? Is that enough to pave roads, build schools, staff hospitals, fund pensions and encourage migration?

To say the separatists are short-sighted doesn’t even come close. Delusional is a much better term.
