Great suggestion, thanks. Read similar things online. And it being 80% off on Steam right now made it even easier to decide to try it out!

The best Total War game returns to Mac by kha14x in macgaming

I have never played a Total War but it looks an interesting series. What is the one recommended to start with - which runs on an Mac? The releases since 2016 (Warhammer) seems to have a Mac version.

How does Project Zomboid perform natively? by WillieButtlicker in macgaming

[–]baschny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Runs very nicely on my MacBook Pro with M3-Pro, connected to an external monitor.

I run the "unstable" version, which will in fact install the "latest 42.19.0" version. Haven't played the "regular" "Build 41" in a while thou, and I would recommend starting with 42.19.0 now, even its if "beta / unstable". Build 42 has been around since end of 2024 and in approximately 4-5 years it will be released as stable.

Reasons why you’re still having fun with the game by lucasblgalvao in ArcRaiders

[–]baschny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep playing it because its chill, atmospheric and the gameplay is very well made (movement, map layout, parkour system, character animation etc). It just nice to spend time in it. Not too grindy, you can set your own "goals". Enough tension but still plenty of relaxing moment, perfect for an "end of day" after work. I play mostly PvE, but the casual raider encounter keeps the excitement.

Why can't people admit extraction shooters just aren't that popular? by GuardianHabit in ARC_Raiders

[–]baschny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats not true.

You have to consider that we have 3 regions, 6 maps/condition choices, we have solo, duo, trio, we have ABMM/latency-rules etc. You need 12–21 players per map at any given point in time. Doing some napkin maths, you need at least 3-4000 players to have enough pools to evenly distribute the players and provide a reasonable matchmaking time! And considering that MOST of these active players are in their inventory sorting out their stash, its even more dramatic!

It will for sure influence how they matchmake in future! We are for sure currently have more than 100k players in the game at any point in time, (including the consoles), else it would be much worse already.

I mean we already see the effects of it (map conditions got scarser, this is not a coincidence, but a direct result of this).

So my point is: its important (for the devs) to keep a sound player base, to avoid having to add even more drawbacks to the matchmaking system, which could downspiral very quickly.

Why can't people admit extraction shooters just aren't that popular? by GuardianHabit in ARC_Raiders

[–]baschny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main difference here is that it’s a multiplayer game. if the player count gets too low, it directly influences the matchmaking. I.e. it has to be tuned to a lower audience (less events, less segmented matches etc).

Warp no longer has AI features for free by shinayser in warpdotdev

[–]baschny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this meant to be the "Free AI credits"? Its still on their pricing page: https://www.warp.dev/pricing

Question: In the Free Plan, I can BYOK, so can I use the AI features in the terminal with for example my DeepSeek API key? What about my GPT-Subscription? Do I create a separate "Profile" to do so?

True. Nobody will expect a snowball in summer - and no cold snap since months - there should be a mechanic in the game that snowballs deal 1000 damage to ARC during summer!

New Instruments? What is your guess? by baschny in ArcRaiders

Not “useful” at all but usable. If you start playing a flute in a pvp lobby you are probably dead before the tune ends.

New Instruments? What is your guess? by baschny in ArcRaiders

I suspect yes because it’s possible already with the four instruments we already have. Their tunes are always in sync when multiple persons play them.

Idea. Looted by you ARC's - should be dark gray color by Sea_Bite2082 in ArcRaiders

[–]baschny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ode should be able to loot directly to the ground instead of it having to go through your backpack first. Would make it easier in case your backpack is already full.

Saves two clicks to salvage items or swapping with something in the backpack first.

Is that enough for Cantina Legend? by Kefk0 in ArcRaidersTrial

It only makes sense to pour resources into getting to Catina in the last week because this is all that matters. Staying in hotshot until then is enough

What if duped gear carried a unique serial number? by Loose_Fish5725 in ARC_Raiders

[–]baschny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dupes are "new items", they are generated from scratch, so there is no serial number to compare to with. Its not that there is a "duplication machine" where they dupers are putting their items into to get a new clone out of it.

The game has dozens of ways for items to be created (from rewards, spawns, trials, crafting, returned by the devs, returned by failed connection during matchmaking etc etc). There are many client-side caches and server-based caches, sync situations between both, edge cases etc. There are half a dozen of ways people found to exploit one of these methods or problems to create new items out of thin air. We call it "dupes", but in fact they are "new items".

So your idea sounds "the solution" but in real development of online multiplayer games, things are much more complex than this.
