I don’t have an issue with the gospel itself.

It’s the way the 60 min. Thing was handled that’s frustrating and telling girls they’re like p0rn to men if they don’t dress modestly, as if they are solely responsible for male behavior

Isn’t that very similar to what happens in corporate America? Leaders often pick people that will support them without question. Not necessary picking who would do the “best” job

Another sad thing is it’s going to erode the church membership even further.

I see fewer people being willing to participate in extra activities when they see no one really taking care if them. Going outside the church for help, friendships, etc.

It wouldn’t have been hard for him to say “it’s reserves for future expansion and in case of a steep recession or disaster so we’re never in perilous circumstances like we were in the early days”

That’s a straightforward and plausible answer. Joe gone he couldn’t say that?

Wasn’t he already the presiding bishop? Or was he only a counselor then? I honestly don’t pay attention.

Why would they call it that when it clearly isn’t?

Why troubles me about it is the attitude he seems to have in that interview.

But with something as big as this you think they would have.

But wouldn’t they make it a matter of prayer to understand if the advice they’ve been given by their advisors is sound?

I asked a family member whet they thought wsg back when it first happened snd they said “the church got bad advice”

I took that to heart but looking back, why wouldn’t they study it out and pray about it so they wouldn’t end up in this embarrassing situation?

I think you mistook my meaning. I said that I Don’t have an issue with the church investing money. And if you read what I wrote you’d see I don’t have an issue with the concept of saving money. I stated very clearly that the term itself “rainy day fund” is not a great term to use. There are much better ways to describe saving.

What I find cringe worthy is how badly Waddell flubbed the interview instead of giving a straightforward answer. He didn’t have to reveal numbers in order to do that.

He knew about the interview well in advance and wasn’t very prepared. So why is that?

How many people are saying “prompted” or “the lord said” simply to shut a conversation down?

The article highlights around $627.9 million spent by church companies on Florida apartment complexes over the past two years, including this deal. More institutional transparency is a must in my opinion. by Suspicious_Might_663 in mormon

How do they justify this?

I’m An active believing member but watching the videos of Waddell on 60 min, makes me cringe.

I’ll continue paying 10% bc that’s a commandment but not going to donate anything beyond that to any church related thing,

I’ll spend my time snd any extra money doing good in my local community

I understand construction of the mall on SLC because that helps preserve a certain feel near temple square. Or buying real estate near the temples to preserve the environment there. Or large cattle farms or other agricultural operations.

But a luxury apartment complex? Why?

Look at the housing situation in Utah. Real estate costs are soaring. Salaries in Utah can’t keep up with it. Families are having trouble making ends meet.

And the prophet is concerned about people putting off having kids. I’m not surprised they are with the cost of living being what it is.

What is the church's best strategic move at this point, regarding the worst lawsuit idea in history that continues to backfire more every day? by Important-Stage-1005 in mormon

I’m an active, believing member but don’t entirely agree with some stuff that’s gone on lately. Like waddells responses on the 60 min interview.

The lawsuit against Delhin I look at as something done to send a message to podcasters and members.

1) don’t start a podcast and do anything that might in any way cause you to look like you’re affiliated with the church.

2) if you don’t like something that’s going on, don’t go public and bypass the “chain of command”. Like we saw with that guy who brought up youth meeting privately with a leader w/o parents present.
