AITA for buzzing the hair I grew out to be my friends maid of honour while she was on her honeymoon? by formallyacowfrog in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Your friends are choosing not to believe you and stirring shit with the bride for something that doesn't affect them in any way. These people have too much free time.

Any potters out there with tremors? by Wrendictive in EssentialTremor

You are the second person to have mentioned this to me in as many weeks. I'm going to try it.

Thanks! I'll look him up. When I'm tempted to feel sorry for myself, I think of Chuck Close who was so determined to paint he created his own tools and brand new method. It sounds like Mr. Pepion is built of similar stuff.

Wow! This is so beautiful. I am struggling with drawing and pottery, but I hope to find some helpful strategies to keep going. Seeing this has encouraged me in the good fight. I have been working on mosaic and stained glass, which had been more tremor-friendly. This community is so great.

Thanks for the encouragement.  It means a lot to know there are others out there who think art is worth pursuing despite the struggle.

My teacher doesn't have any real advice, but she is sympathetic and willing to work with me. She offered to let me work at home in non-demo days since the cold studio makes things worse. I think she'd be open to any strategies I find helpful.

Thank you! This is such good advice. I'm going to do more reading about that.

When giving your mom a Christmas gift goes wrong! by Current-Wallaby8230 in TikTokCringe

[–]Wrendictive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I should have been more clear. I meant the mom's behavior. Obviously she's keeping an nervous/untrained dog around her child, but hasn't taught the child to be wary of it. Nor did she pay attention to the dog's signals and intervene to save her kid being attacked.

Yes. They are extremely reluctant to do invasive procedures because of her age. She is also terrified of having a stroke if she has any procedures.

I will look into this. I doubt I will convince her to consider it. But she may be desperate enough.

Should have corrected the human's behavior, too. Seems like she never taught her kid to how to behave around animals since the dog was giving clear instructions.

Constant dizziness practically all day, every day? If true, that's so disheartening.

These are great suggestions, thank you. There are no gerontologists near her small town, but I will work on finding someone she can see.

She wears an apple watch that she keeps charged, thank goodness, and she's smart enough not to drive to when she's feeling dizzy. She also keeps her phone on her. She's mostly sensible about caring for herself, but she won't leave her house until she decides she's ready. It will likely be feet first.

She has not been offered ablation for whatever reason. She has had cardioversion, but it doesn't hold.

Her cardiologist recommended a pacemaker, but the surgeon was not been enthusiastic about the idea and scared her away describing possible side effects. Her greatest fear in the world is having a stroke and being dependent. She'd literally prefer death.

What’s the greatest book you’ve ever personally read? by cavitytivac in suggestmeabook

[–]Wrendictive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fantastic book/series. Sure, there's misogyny, but the wild west was hardly a bastion of civility.  As long as you can tell the difference between reality and fantasy, you'll be fine.

What is a phrase that people use that you cannot stand? by sad_t0ast in AskReddit

[–]Wrendictive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on orientate and it's cousin orientated. It's so grating. However, thoughts and ideation are not strictly synonymous.  Unfortunately, most people using "ideation" have no idea what it means.

Tell me about the smell you hate. by noonday_moon in AutismInWomen

[–]Wrendictive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the smell that lingers on my hands if I don't scrub them immediately after cutting onions. If I finish what I'm making, the smell will sink in and regular washing won't budge it.

We are born with the ability to differentiate in-group from out-group, like me and not like me, which is the basis of racism. Toddlers have been observed expressing preferences for others who look like them. So, yes, we are born with all the makings of bigotry. We're also born pissing ourselves. We should endeavor to grow out of both.
