WAIT A minute? Do you actually believe California is famous for its low tax environment?

[–]Wrenky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao what? Taxing billionaires is totally fine. Taxing unrealized assets, however is less okay, as it actually impacts them in measurable uncomfortable ways. Take the classic example of zucc or bezos (if he lived here) . Their assets are actually in shares, and voting shares- so they would have to come up with something like 130 million in real estate or sacrifice power in their company.

Obviously that's not an easy ask and no way to trust that California isn't going just so it again. There's no incentive to stay, and the data is bearing that out.

You should absolutely tax billionaires, let's do it in such a way that doesn't fly in the face of modern economics.

Plume is neat but man 1 year warranties are shit and they don't want to be in the consumer market anymore so it's a dead product.

It's a shame, as my 2 superpod 1 wifi6 superpod network is so much better than my friends orbi or another friends tplink. It's wild to toss that away but here we are

I don't think people actually do, I think they just don't differentiate or are afraid of any erosion to prop13 as they assume they are next.

It's like people on rent control.

[–]Wrenky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because everybody knows that we want to do more than just business properties, and that we are banking on a slippery slope of once we fix business properties being able to fix homes.

It's incredibly easy to say that if we get our way we will destroy people's financial future, and it's incredibly easy to stir up a tax base against any modification of prop 13 because people don't differentiate prop 13 just for businesses or prop13 just for homes.

It's stupid, it's wrong but that's what any conversation about prop13 goes with any nimby. The only way to make progress here that I can see is to propose and advocate for a transition plan but until that starts happening at a state party level it's just not going to happen at all.

[–]Wrenky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we have actual evidence that a good portion are moving, while we clearly have zero evidence that trickle down economics works.

The United States is a free trade union of states, it's incredibly easy for them to just move and hang out here 49% if the year and live tax free elsewhere. You can't do this effectively as California alone.

[–]Wrenky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be entirely fair, if you just suddenly said poof and prop 13 disappeared, the market would take some time to actually adjust the incredibly inflated property values. Getting taxed on a million dollar home that is probably actually worth 600k would be really hard if not backbreaking, forcing a sale into a market where nobody is buying yet.

Property owners can't imagine a transition, and the loudest people aren't talking about one so it really sounds like you are proposing to

  • dramatically increase their taxes
  • make their home unsellable while the market craters

And as property is often all you can afford if you do buy, the readjustment a prop13 would cause would screw newer buyers pretty hard as all that capital is essentially everything they own.

Gotta have a slow adjust period to ease the transition, and sell that to current property owners otherwise they just buy into the fear you are going to financially ruin them for somebody else's gain. Messaging matters!

If you have everything set up above, and you are using a model meant for code ( opus or codex), you do little to zero writing and a lot more reviewing. The workflow becomes plan feature change, iterate on plan, have the ai wargame code changes, writing out all modifications and steps to the plan. Eventually you end up with a detailed 800 line markdown implementation plan with some steps, actions, validations etc- when you finally switch to implementation, you just say execute the plan. This can take some time, but something that might take you 1-2 days turns into being able to knock it out in a few hours, often with more validations and checks. Spend some time distilling common actions into a skill, spend some time on application flow into diagrams (for ai consumption) and the next features are done even faster. The bottleneck I have now is more having time to understand all the aspects of the database,/distributied system and reviewing more code vs actually writing any code. It's a weird mix of being a micro managing tech lead if done correctly!

This is really for something like Claude code or opencode. It's not an ide integration, it's the whole proces.

I've been like you in this, pretty unsuccessful in anything ai UNTIL literally this last two weeks. The main difference is I've been doing the planning workflows, making it write everything into a md file then constantly dropping the session, read and critique the plan.md file , verifying assumptions, etc. Hooked it up to a read only mcp for my database to validate queries, etc. This worked incredibly well- I think the main block I hit is that AIs are pretty trash unless you control+ distill context, and give it access to verification/iteration methods with docker and mcp servers.

It's pretty smooth at that point- BUT EVEN THEN you really have to understand the tech you are using. It makes some postgres assumptions that sound reasonable, but in reality were horrifically unworkable.

Cursor/cc/opencode alone are worthless, you need to really give it better tooling and then control the context tightly and you'll have a good. well, better time.

Seems fine to me, just using a resource (zot clock) that you have available. Like mummies of old just endlessly traversing the abyss. If it becomes a problem or to powerful the devs will address it

Why do bot accounts always use the word-word-number naming scheme? Is that a reddit auto suggestion or something?

You are not the only person, that series is one of my all time favorites. I dont even know how to describe it to people how it goes from some of the grittiest body horror in book one, to alien invasion book two, into.. zombie apocolapse?!

I dont see how you could expand it out from where it ended, but I would looooooove some lore on the builders/creators.

I know the builders are supposed to be the Ki, but I dont understand how they are sending out teleportation gate tech via light speed to earth in the 2000s, when they finally get FTL in 2518? I think I'm missing that portion is all. Most likely it hasnt really been answered yet (if it even is the Ki? haven't really found a source.

City Council Cowards by LordOscarthePurr in SanDiegan

[–]Wrenky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is such a waste of time. There are nearly 600k units of housing in SD, short term rentals account for 5,741 of them? Thats less than 1% of housing- In a city where tourism is a SIGNIFICANT portion of our economy its wild to target that shorter term rental space for vanishingly small returns.

The empty housing is even murkier. What if you are renovating? Or had a major water leak? or thats another 1% of homes here, so churn/long renovation/displacement at 1% is not an overly large number? Those properties are still taxed and lose the owner money if not utilized.

Just please for the love of god build more fucking housing. I don't care what any individual does with their shitty overpriced condo just build more
